Hey guys, I am going to need an honest, unbaised answer for this question.
At Indy, when the Champ Cars come out, how many fans leave, if any, until the V8's come back? People over on another forum I am on, say that no one leaves, and I think, based off of what I have heard on here, that many of them actually leave, and then come back for the final race.
Thanks,
Matt.
I would be surprised if anyone actually leaves the track (may be the odd person, but when you have dropped your $70 odd for the day you would be inclined to hang around - and there is so much else that is happening to keep you there)
I watch them, but don't pay quite so much attention when they are on - BUT if they weren't there I dont think the event would be quite the same
NewsStalker 9 Oct 2007, 23:43 Is this like the myth that whenever the V8's were on the track at the Australian Grand Prix all the Formula 1 mechanics, team members etc used to drop everything and crowd the pit wall to watch them?

Newsie, that isn't a myth, but more of an exaggerated urban legend.
Having done a couple of Grand Prick's in the pit lane, it is true that some of the F1 circus did actually venture out for a little bit of a look, but certainly not drop everything, and move en-masse to the pit wall.
It was more the awesomely loud rumble of antiquated technology that had them scratching their heads......
NewsStalker 10 Oct 2007, 01:42 Uncie (I can call you that, can't I? :) ) - I was keeping shtum on the real reason - I didn't want to inflame an already tense audience! Hmmm maybe one of the teams should go for sponsorship from one of the leading Dinosaur Museums in the world - be quite apt really !!

Here we go again...

Thread can be closed. I retract that statement, as I have gotten proof, that this is not the case.
Buckshot 10 Oct 2007, 04:01 I know for the last 3-4 years since I gave up watching Champ Cars I didn't bother to watch them on the TV coverage, I'd watch the V8s and then go do something else.
The only time I've seen the F1 garages cleared out was at Adelaide when they fired up and ran a Top Fuel Dragster down Pit Straight.
The noise of it starting up and idling certainly got their attention and the vibration and noise of it actually doing a pass down the straight impressed most of them.
stoned pony 10 Oct 2007, 04:10 Frankly, I'd rather watch the Champ Cars than the taxis but the reality is they all have their place. Then again, I'm the bloke who doesn't go for a slash or a burger run when the Formula Vees come out.
Average Punter 10 Oct 2007, 04:18 We went to Indy in 2002 and arrived in the middle of one the Champ Car sessions.
We were all thinking what a fizzer the meeting was and that there was nobody around. We were blaming the Bali bombings that had occurred only a fortnight earlier..
Then the V8's came out and the place was packed to the rafters. You had to just about climb a palm tree to see anything...
Why does one have to be better than the other!!!???
If you actually like racing, you should be thankful that you get to see two pretty awesome categories of racing on the same bill.
Just celebrate what is an awesome weekend of racing... and stop the garbage!
I agree Mac. What I dont understand, if supposedly all the fans come out for the v8s. where the hell do they go when other events are on ? I mean there isnt that much room at Indy.
DAVID PATERSON 10 Oct 2007, 05:00 When i go to Indy, i watch both V8s and Champ Cars, but there does seem to be a reasonably large number of people who only watch the V8s, though still a minority.
DAVID PATERSON 10 Oct 2007, 05:00 Double Post.
GreaseMonkey99 10 Oct 2007, 05:36 Why did they put a V8 race following the Indy if the interest in Champ Car was that great. In saying that having Will Power & Team Aus now in the mix in a serious way obviously more interest in the Indy itself.
Notso Swift 10 Oct 2007, 05:41 Timing and weather consideration, Indy car and night don't really mix (as we have found out more than once)
FPV GTHO 10 Oct 2007, 06:47 I remember reading an American article where they'd apparently talked to a (drunken) local fan, who was under the impression that not only was the Champ Car event the support event to the V8's at Indy, but the same with F1 in Melbourne. I personally cant see too many people shelling out for a dual billed event and not wanting to get their moneys worth by missing one of the headline events though.

Probably off watching "extra-curricular" activities...
DAVID PATERSON 10 Oct 2007, 09:55 Indy on the Gold Coast is like schoolies for adults.
johnny yuma 10 Oct 2007, 11:13 OK.I'll be the Fourth Yorkshireman.I don't go to't Gold Coast.I dont watch the Endycars or the V8s.When I was youung we used to dream of having a motor circuit where you could see everything about your car racing your neighbiurs car. Then we would eat a handful of hot gravel if we were lucky and our dad would thrash us to sleep with a pushrod.
Queensland had the best races in Australia at times at Surfers Paradise but stuffed it.And you could go out on the track after the races and hoon around!
Prickly_Goo 10 Oct 2007, 11:35 I like the Champ Cars actually, its something different to the coast and its interesting to see something form the other side of the world.
But I must admit I only go to Indy to watch the v8's.
peckstar 10 Oct 2007, 11:37 i have absolutly no idea what johhny yuma is talking about :)
but that aside
when i go, i watch both, (i tend to watch supports also)
if i was going to QLD for a race i would choose indy because i get to see indy cars as well.
im also glad that the v8's is for points and not just exhibition now
The last two times I have been at Indy, I have stood on the hill on the inside of the last corner. When the Champ Cars are on the track, the grandstand opposite would be lucky to be half full. It is packed when the V8s come out.
I've noticed the same for the hill.
Notso Swift 11 Oct 2007, 09:03 Indy on the Gold Coast is like schoolies for adults.
That is a pit presumptuous
(Calling most of them Adults!)
Nah! Go down the pub when the champ cars are on! Come and watch when the AUSSIE RACE CARS are on if you want to see some real racing!
day one: boring
day two: yeh
day three: good day
day four: boring as the preverbial:
Once telvision owns the rights , say no more.
just like the China Olympics, made to suit the American Market.
