Hamilton Book Launch 5th Novdazbaz_99 6 Nov 2007, 16:29 Who went then? What time did you start queuing? I got there at 1.30 and the queue was already 200+ Craig 6 Nov 2007, 16:32 A shame they didn't hand out copies of the book as you joined the queue. By the time you reached the front of the queue you'd have finished reading. I always feel it's a bit pointless for a current driver to bring out a book as it's always gonna be severely limited in it's scope. In this case I think that it is absolutely ludicruous to bring out a book at this stage. Gaz 6 Nov 2007, 17:01 I have to say I bought it half price in Waterstones Chester yesterday and although there are some interesting pieces in it it seems to skip over a lot of things. His character comes across well in it, you get a clear indication of his values and ethics but having just read Jackie Stewart and Chris Walker's autobiographies I have to say this seems a rush job in order to cash in on his new found fame. redshoes 6 Nov 2007, 19:13 Which one? Last GPLegends catalogue I saw had 3 pages of Hamilton biogs/auto-biogs. I'm with Craig on this, how can you have a biog of someone so young. dazbaz_99 6 Nov 2007, 19:19 It was his 'official' autobiography called My Story. J-C 6 Nov 2007, 21:06 It is rather ludicrous that there's something like 8 separate books on Hamilton already, when he's only 22 and has had 1 year in F1. It's not even like his backstory is particularly interesting - it just reads, signed with best team in FRenault, won title, signed with best team in F3, won title, signed with best team in GP2, won title, signed with best team in F1...ooops! :) It's just a shameless cash-in, and Lewis himself has said its been almost entirely ghostwritten. bella 6 Nov 2007, 21:14 there's so many people who knew him when he was in the lower series everyone's going to read a copy of each to see if they're mentioned ;) btcckid 6 Nov 2007, 21:39 I have to say this seems a rush job in order to cash in on his new found fame. he has all his life to enjoy and then maybe think about a book- like you said, just to make money-didn't they do that with wayne rooney when he was still a kid(sorry going off topic-well slightly) AdamAshmore 6 Nov 2007, 22:42 I didn't know that he was a talented writer as well. Stupid idea, but then if people want it, let him 'write' it. I suspect that this is one book that I shall never read. I also bet it is not a patch on David's Diary. Knowlesy 8 Nov 2007, 00:51 David's Diary was just unbeatable stuff! This is a book I'll never get and I shall wait until the end of his career for the definitive book. I have no interest in a ghost-written book that will focus predominately on stuff we already know and a year long argument with Fernando Alonso. It is, shall we say, a touch early for this. Truckosaurus 8 Nov 2007, 11:53 It was his 'official' autobiography called My Story. Can one even have an unofficial autobiography? Perhaps if you were a schizophrenic... Ralf's Girl 8 Nov 2007, 13:54 Just to play devil's advocate, there are a lot of books being rushed into print now to talk about 'Hamilton the Rookie Phenomenon', and they're likely to contain a lot of garbage and half-truths. There is an argument in favour of him telling his story the way he wants it told (well, with a couple of embellishments from the ghost writer  ) rather than letting the usual tripe that comes out of these unofficial biographies dominate headlines. But I'm not buying the book, simply because I can't imagine it being very interesting... bella 8 Nov 2007, 14:20 exactly, and can you blame him for wanting a share of the money through an official "story" rather than an unofficial one that gives him nothing at all? Super Hans 8 Nov 2007, 15:44 I agree with the points made by Bella and Ralf's girl. It's like when people sell their stories to a tabloid. In many cases they do so because they know things will be written regardless, so they may as well get their side of the story across (and generate some cash in the process). I still won't be buying it though. Mr V 12 Nov 2007, 21:40 James Allen will be creaming his pants ;) If i'm going to buy an F1 book this year (or indeed, next year) it will be Nigel Stepney's :) PK Kart 13 Nov 2007, 13:48 James Allen will be creaming his pants ;) If i'm going to buy an F1 book this year (or indeed, next year) it will be Nigel Stepney's :) Me too, should be dynamite, well at least before the lawyers edit. Will have to cast aside my principles though before giving my hard earned to a man who cheated, stole from and betrayed his employers in such a hideous way. Super Hans 13 Nov 2007, 15:19 Will have to cast aside my principles though before giving my hard earned to a man who cheated, stole from and betrayed his employers in such a hideous way. I think all proceeds are going to charity. Knowlesy 13 Nov 2007, 17:45 Yeah, McLaren hopefully. ralf fan 13 Nov 2007, 21:52 I thought Stepney's book was canceled by the publisher. Knowlesy 13 Nov 2007, 22:00 It was but he's on the lookout for another. Someone will surely bite the bullet? rdjones 13 Nov 2007, 23:46 I was in Waterstones at the weekend and I counted no less than 5 books about our Lewis. When I got home I told my parents to save there money at get me the Le Mans Yearbook instead..... redshoes 14 Nov 2007, 00:08 Only 5?
