Hi
I do a course at lackham college
I have a few questions about my assignment,
Basically we have to talk about a citreon saxo and a old formaule renulat,
the saxo has been turned into a race car,
I was wondering what sort of chassis it is,
Also is the engine, tilted over the front axle
What size engine is in a standard saxo.
I was speaking to my tutor today, he said that the right driveshaft is longer than the left, and that there is a weight half way down it to stop tourqe steer
How does this work.
Might have some more questions
Thanks in advance
james
Aren't these the sorts of things they're supposed to be teaching you on the course?
A Google search, or a look on some Saxo related web pages should provide some answers.
hi
No we have not really talked about the cars at all maybe for a couple of mins, but no real information, there has already been 3 people quit in my class, as it is rubbish and we dont really get taught anything to do with our assignment
In my post before, i said about the driveshaft being different legths, is that the same on all fwd cars and how does this work

I would have thought the unequal length shafts is purely because of the design constraints of the gearbox position, for example the original Mini with its central transverse box and engine had equal length shafts as far as i recollect. I would have guessed the weight is more to balance the weight of the unequal length shafts that have ben incorperated into the design to allow an easy removable gearbox without the need to disturb the engine but hey I'm a RWD man so what do I know:-)
Look into the engine bay of an FWD. Note that because of the transverse layout of the engine and box, the gearbox is off-centre, requiring unequal length drive shafts.
Now read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Front_wheel_drive
Can't tell you much about the balance weight on the longer driveshaft, but it's to do with harmonic resonance as far as I'm aware.
Hi
Thanks alot the link helps me a lot

Could help....? : http://www.go-f1.com/images/dossier/crashcoque.jpg
You won't find too many pictures of just the chassis, as most cars that sport monocoque's won't be the people to release images of naked cars.
As for the Saxo, engine size I'd say average a 1.4l. Depends on whether it is a West/East Coast, VTR, VTS etc...
Can't help with the FRenault (I'll be driving one round Thruxton next year, but thats probably a bit late to help  ).
Hi
What is that link about, what is it suppose to show

saxo heavy
FR light
probs same power
one aero
one not
one slicks
one **** tyres
one mega stiff
one not so stiff
old FR REALLY REALLY stiff
due to tyres!
