Monaco Tech Updates

Here are the latest tech add-ons that I spotted today:

Arrows and Jordan used some radical extra wings during practice, before they were banned by the FIA. Arrows added an extra double element wing above the nose cone and a wing above the front suspension like BAR used at Imola, whilst Jordan added a single element wing on just in front of the (but above...) the driver.

Prost used extra front wing elements much like Ferrari tried in Malaysia, mounted above the mainplane, connecting between the endplates and the nose cone.

Williams used a new front wing main plane that is much flatter in than before. It does not rise up in the middle, as pitch sensitivity is not as crucial around Monaco as on higher speed circuits. They also used wider front wing flaps for extra downforce.

BAR used a very small mid-wing, and used the same larger wing above the rear suspension that was used at Imola.

In addition to their infamous extra wings, Arrows also had modified flip-ups in front of the rear wheels.

Sauber used the front wing flap with the larger 'spoon' shaped piece in the middle.

Benetton and Jaguar were also running new aerodynamic packages, and Jordan used modified suspension, but I have seen no pictures/info of these yet.

Excellent job, Andy :)

About the suspension part I am quite sure that everyone is running modified suspensions which are more beefed up for the 'rough surroundings' and at the front to adapt to the bigger steering angles needed for the Loewes hairpin.

No-one yet running the Minardi fourth rearwing element on top of the rear axis?

Oops,

In the Arrows part I meant a wing above the rear suspenion not front suspension.

I am surprised no-one has done a Minardi with the rear wing, BAR and Arrows have one higher up though.

You are right about the suspenions Dino, although I think Jordans is more of an overhaul than a Monaco beef-up!

The Jaguars are running a new diffuser and new aero shapes on the front wishbone, and modified endplates.

Can't imagine why these were banned...

The FIA got it right for once, I believe...

Yeah, they certainly did. Its great that designers try to find ways around rules - kind of what F1 is about in a way, but these are ruddy ugly! They don't look amazingly stable to me either...

Maybe its for the mechanics sake, they can have the car parked in the garage and can serve their cans of Red Bull off the front wings. The Arrows one makes a great shelf!!
