May aswell start this conversation with myself now  -
3-time Australian Supersport Champion Kevin Curtain has signed with MV Augusta (Trinder Brothers Racing) to compete in the Australian Superbike Championship for the next 2 years  .... Hopefully MV Augusta are a 2-rider team & Brendan Clarke gets a gig aswell :unworthy:
bestfit 13 Nov 2007, 12:33 Has Kev fully recovered from his injuries?
Pro Racer 13 Nov 2007, 13:12 well thats good to hear hope he has a successful year and hopefully Mv are a 2 bike team.
So Jamie is stuck in Australia for annother year? /sigh...:(
Pro Racer 14 Nov 2007, 01:05 yeah thats a shame he can't do anymore to get reckognised and picked up by someone.
racer69 14 Nov 2007, 17:20 Time was when winning the Australian Superbike Championship virtually guarenteed you a top ride overseas the following year.
Kevin Magee went from Australian Superbikes in 1986/87 to 500cc GP racing in 87/88
Michael Doohan went from Australian Superbikes in 1988 to 500cc GP's in 1989
1989/90 - Mal Campbell won the first two Australian Superbike Championships, but was at the tail end of his career
1991 - Aaron Slight won the ASC, went to World Superbikes with Kawasaki in '92
1992 - Mat Mladin won the ASC, went 500cc GP's with Cagiva in 1993
1993 - Troy Corser won, went to AMA Superbikes with Ducati in 1994
1994 - Anthony Gobert won, went to World Supers with Kawasaki in 1995
1995 - Kirk McCarthy won, went to World Supers with Suzuki in 1996
1996 - Peter Goddard won, went to World Endurance, plus some 500cc GP rides in 1997
1997/98 - Marty Craggill won both, went to British Superbikes with Suzuki in '99
1999 - Steve Martin won, stayed in Austraila in 2000, but went World Supers in '01
2000/01/02 - Shawn Giles won, still racing here
2003 - Craig Coxhall won, went to World Superstock in '04
2004 - Adam Fergussen won, stayed in Australia
2005 - Josh Brookes won, went to World Supersport then Superbike in '06
2006/07 - Jamie Stauffer, and he's still here, bar some AMA Superstock races at the end of '07
The series is slowly rebuilding, but is still not what it once was. Also a pity that the rules we run to aren't really up to pace with WSB, back in the day our Wildcards were rather quick against the regulars, particularly in the early years at Oran Park.
Yeah, Doohan winning by a lap or so. :)
Them's the days.
But yeah, Recall the days where Bayliss would suit up and finish top ten against Foggy et al?
But atleast Brooksie kept it alive with that WSS wildcard win.
its still well & truly alive boys
Honda have now confirmed their rider line up for next season’s assault on the Superbike and Supersport Championships.
2007 Supersport Champion Jason O’Halloran and Glenn Allerton (4th in 07) will ride the superbikes & former Kawasaki factory rider Wayne Maxwell will ride in the supersport class - seems like only 1 supersport rider (wtf :banghead: )...
Honda make their SBK riders ride in SS anyway, so it's a 3 rider line up
well i hope so, i didnt read it that way though
McLean Fan 16 Nov 2007, 01:52 I'm hearing conflicting rumours that Scott Charlton will be the other MV man, but some have said he will be partnering Ben Attard at Kawasaki ?
Staring will be replacing O'Halloran at Yamaha SS.
2008 Calender...
Rnd 1: 14-16th March Eastern Creek Raceway New South Wales.
Rnd 2: 18-20th April Mallala Raceway South Australia.
Rnd 3: 30th May - 1st June Winton Raceway Victoria.
Rnd 4/5: 10-13th July Queensland Raceway Queensland.
Rnd 6: 29th-31st August Symmons Plains Raceway Tasmania.
Rnd 7: 17-19th October Eastern Creek Raceway New South Wales.
Gerben24 30 Nov 2007, 16:32 You dont race at Philip Island
racer69 30 Nov 2007, 17:45 They run support races at the WSB & MotoGP rounds, but no Australian championship rounds there these days.
As a side note i was recently watching the 1988 WSB round from Oran Park....a round totally dominated by the Aussie wildcards (as good as the Japanese used to do at Sugo), a shame we can't do that these days :(
You dont race at Philip Island
think it had something to do with the cost's of running a stand alone round there - supposebly ridiculous compared to each other venue! which is a shame...
good to see the new owners support aussie bike racing :banghead: - though it is a business these days...
That'd make sense.
Aside from not racing at the Island, that's a pretty sad calender...
Rnd 1: 14-16th March Eastern Creek Raceway New South Wales.
Eastern Creek is a fun place.
Rnd 2: 18-20th April Mallala Raceway South Australia.
Mallala, ditto. Especially turn one and people dumping it there/running into the run off.
Rnd 3: 30th May - 1st June Winton Raceway Victoria.
Winton...hmmm...Last Winton race I remember it rained, but that was a few years ago...
Rnd 4/5: 10-13th July Queensland Raceway Queensland.
This (was) a great track, in a few years ago. Stauffer jr On the Kwaka up against Stauffer Sr on the Yam, with Joshifumi and Fergusson on the Hondas...:)
Rnd 6: 29th-31st August Symmons Plains Raceway Tasmania.
My "local" track. Havn't managed to get up yet...
They don't race at Hidden Valley anylonger, and apparently not at Barbagello. I'm not sure if these are saftey related issues (probably.)
I'm not sure what else they're missing? (Dont' say Bathurst)
1988? Was the Doohan?
barbagello was on the calender last year & years before but the cost of getting across the nullabor was always an issue...
winton is a great day - similar riding distance from melbourne as phillip island is! they got camping there this year too  ... infact, majority of tracks are allowing camping in 2008...
*** dont think the aussie supers ever went to hidden valley - reckon its about time they brought back the old "2+4" meetings with the v8 supercars. they where great days...

Certainly were, infact i've been going through my old VHS's recently, starting to convert them to DVD, and found the first Shell organised '2+4' Aussie SBK/ATCC meeting from Oran Park in 1991. Quite a good battle between Aaron Slight on the Kawasaki & Scott Doohan on the PJ Yamaha.....
Sadly, as far as i have been told, they aren't likely to happen again anytime soon, due to CAMS insurance policies
1988? Was the Doohan?
Yeah, Doohan won both races from Marlboro Yamaha teammate Michael Dowson....best 'regular' was Fred Merkel who got a singular podium in Race 2.
I'm not sure what else they're missing? (Dont' say Bathurst)
I'll say it ;)
Bring back the Arai 500/Easter bikes....Bathurst is kids stuff compared to the Isle of Man & Macau....

Hey, this doesn't just happen in Aussie Superbike. Rumours say that Flamini want to organize a WSBK race in Instanbul. With Sofuoglu racing for a top team this could be a great succes and make motorcycle racing popular in Turkey (something Motogp didn't succeed in). However, some midget called Ecclestone is owner of this track and he is asking way to much money, so the WSBK round probably isn't going to happen at Istanbul (this by the way is the reason Motogp isn't coming back, not the empty grandstands).

Don't speak so soon, there will be 600 Supersport racing at the A1 GP next year at Eastern Creek.
Barbagallo got dropped off the calander this year because the ASC promoter wanted to put up his airfence over the established sponsor names on the concrete walls. The talks stalled over who would pay for the sponsor signage to be replicated on the airfence.
Jeff
:gfight:
Ahh damnit, we can't have rider saftey can we?
So it is time we western australian cut our ties with the east coast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cant believe that people cant find money for one event when we have to find money for every event in the national series.
We should take our mining money away from the east coast and see what happerns then.
I hate this country

surely that happens at all circuits - gotta be more to it :banghead:
hmm the air fence. That would be turn 1 where it would be placed.
Why there in cat corner? It is the place that young Levi died late last year.
Hmmmmm WASCC Should get the act together with with Bike boys and West track and sort this out.
sent brendan clarke an email last night about a rumour i heard of him going to race british supersport in 08, he responded & said that he had signed with full factory support from Triumph  - said the news was going to be released over the next cuppla days  .... you heard it here first on 10/10ths

McLean Fan 20 Mar 2008, 11:53 Kev Curtain did well on the MV, travelling well in 5th in both races, although clutch troubles curtailed his ride in Race 1.
In race two he headed home factory entries from Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda and both Kawasakis. As a new team with no previous set-up data, such a performance bodes well for the rest of the season.
Those Trinder boys can sure build a bike.

McLean Fan 20 Oct 2008, 12:04 Great days racing at the Creek.
Jason O'Halloran cleaned up in both races, but the title went to his Teknik Honda team-mate. The battle between Kev Curtain and the Hondas in race 2 was the highlight of the day.
Final points :
1 Glenn Allerton Honda CBR1000RR 268
2 Jamie Stauffer Yamaha YZF-R1 258
3 Dan Stauffer Yamaha YZF-R1 245
4 Jason O’Halloran Honda CBR1000RR 239
5 Craig Coxhell Suzuki GSX-R1000 190
6 Robbie Bugden Suzuki GSX-R1000 172
7 Kevin Curtain MV Agusta 312R 168
8 Chris Trounson Honda CBR1000RR 157
9 Zac Davies Yamaha YZF-R1 130
10 Jon Cartwright Yamaha YZF-R1 124
Congrats to Glen Allerton on winning the title  & to Jason O'Halloran showing his class in the 2 races - really hope he goes O/S in 2009....
I wonder if Kev Curtain & MV Augusta will race in 2009
Jamie Stauffer won the Supersport title aswell :winner:
JohnnyFiama 21 Oct 2008, 17:51 I can't say I've followed this series at all but interested to see Kevin Curtain on an MV Agusta. Has he been on that all year? What's his best result been?
McLean Fan 24 Oct 2008, 12:24 Johnny,
Kev's been on the 312R all year and has seen it's steady improvement culminate in second place at the final race of the year. I reckon he could have won the race had it not started spitting rain with a couple of laps to go.
Hey guys,
Was interested in attending an Australian Superbike race meeting in 2009, but I am not interested in travelling interstate.
Will the series travel to either Eastern Creek or Oran Park in 2009?
Has anyone seen a draft calendar for 2009?
What are the support categories, and what are they like in terms of entertainment?
McLean Fan 3 Nov 2008, 11:31 Only one at EC but three at lucky PI (although two of those will be on the undercard of WSBK and MotoGP rounds).
2009 Calendar :
15 February Winton, VIC
1 March Phillip Island, VIC
15 March Symmons Plains, TAS
12 April Phillip Island, VIC
31 May Queensland Raceway, QLD
19 July Barbagallo, WA
9 August Eastern Creek, NSW
18 October Phillip Island, VIC
1 November Adelaide, SA
15 November Calder Park, VIC
Race days will encompass the follow classes (two races of each, unless the format changes with the new management):
Superbike
Supersport
Superstock 1000
Superstock
Yamaha FZ6 Masters
125GP / 250 4-stroke
Honda CBR150 Junior Racing
I can't say I watch much more than the Superbikes and Supersport categories, but that's more to do with lack of time rather than lack of interest. It's definitely worth checking out if you can make it.
1 November Adelaide, SA
Do they mean Mallala (its not elsewhere on the calendar), or are the bikes heading back to AIR (considering the last round is at Calder)??
McLean Fan 3 Nov 2008, 11:50 Provisionally at AIR, although I'll believe it when I see it. You'd need a lot of air-fence for a start.

Thanks a lot for your help.:)
