It includes 2 dirt tracks and 1 road track. Rockingham is also on the schedule. Now if someone would only buy North Wilkesboro so ARCA could also add it to their schedule. This is a quite good schedule.

What made them decide to throw in some dirt tracks?

They've been racing on dirt for quite some years now, the ARCA website says they've visited DuQuoin for the first time in 1983 and ran 24 races there.

I wish they'd add a couple of dirt tracks to the Cup schedule. It'd be a fantastic spectacle.

But do you honestly think that they would do that? They would have to construct a whole new dirt track first, and all the teams would have to make a new type of car. I don't think that we will ever see the cup on dirt again, but it is good to see ARCA on dirt.

Sadly, probably not. But, why not? There's more than enough money in the sport to build a new venue and the ability to run on dirt could (should?) have been built into the CoT design.

ARCA has a very nice looking schedule. Nascar will probably be having a fire sale on the COY and ARCA will be the beneficiary. It will be inviting for more teams to try competing in ARCA. Nascar is losing fans in big numbers and it would not surprise me to see ARCA adding fans to their racing. Am I missing something??

Yes, true. Most of the NASCAR teams are giving their cars to their teams in ARCA or selling them to other ARCA teams. And with adding a 500 mile event to the schedule it looks like ARCA wants to get serious.

But I do think the next couple of years will be very important to the series. The Sprint Cup moves to the COT next season and the Nationwide Series will get their own new car (based on COT) within a couple of years. ARCA can become star struck. With lots of cars and much success the series will be carrying a lot of momentum. But then what will they do. Will they become a separate stock car series, running the old Cup car, or eventually change to the new COT. In the last couple of years ARCA really became a feeder series, more than ever. Lots of Cup teams are running cars with their newest talents in it. I could see them leave just as easily as they came, thinking their talents could rather debut in Trucks or the new Nationwide car as they are much closer to the new Cup car.

Oh well, just some stupid thoughts of a fan. But that doesn't mean the future of the ARCA RE/MAX Series won't be interesting. I would love to see them get their own identity with their own car (old Cup one that is). Maybe that would attract some more drivers that will stick around for more than one season and finally give Kimmel and the new Kimmel Racing a run for their money.

Speaking of Kimmel. Has anyone heard why Advance auto Parts dropped them as sponsor. I have been wondering why. Anyone know the gossip.

It will be interesting to see how ARCA grows now that they will get an influx of higher quality cars. I prefer ARCA racing to NASCAR, the drivers are there more for the love of racing than for money. Plus, the majority of NASCAR Cup and Nationwide races are way too long and dull to hold my attention anymore, 4 plus hours is way to long for any race (excluding an endurance event) in my opinion. Beyond a couple Nationwide and CTS races, I haven't watched any this year. One thing I enjoyed about NASCAR a few years ago was that there were still some "underdog" drivers and teams like Geoffrey Bodine, Dave Marcis, etc. floating around. But with the qualifying and other changes they are pretty much non-existent anymore, and it takes a lot of the fun out of it for me.

The ARCA boys do a little modifications to their cars for dirt racing. I've seen photos with an opening for air in the hood,and they sometimes put something on the front grille of the car to keep the dirt clods from blocking up the radiator and causing the car to overheat.

Pork picked up the sponsorship in '06, then they were gone this year too. I'm not sure why myself. Maybe they felt they weren't getting the return on the investment they wanted.



On the subject of underdogs,it's another reason I enjoy ARCA. ARCA still has them.

An ARCA race at DuQuoin was televised a few years ago probably because Tony Stewart raced in it. It was one of the best races I've ever watched. It was wild to see those big old stock cars on dirt. Oh yeah.....Tony won.
