If Only - Sad words indeed

I was once told that the two saddest words in the dictionary are 'If only'. Of course I'm speaking about 'If only' Mick had'nt fallen off that bike and (ultimately) retired.

There was a time when I did'nt think he could beat Agestini's (excuse spelling) record of 7 World Championships, despite the fact that I think he deserved to.

Looking at the years gone by since, not only was it possible, but I dare to say it was inevitable. I have no doubts that he would've claimed no. 6 at Crivilles expense, and Kenny's 'cruise' to victory would have been a disasterous stratergy with Mick in the mix.

Now that would be 7, which brings us to this year. While I am one of the first to say how brilliant Rossi is, I can't beleive that he would be dominating Doohan the way he is the rest of the field today. He is blindingly fast, but lacks the maturity (which will come I'm sure- remember how young he is) and race craft that Mighty Mick was legendary. Also taking into account he is using Doohans team which obviously would'nt exist for him if Mick was still racing.

Thats 8. I know this only a hypothetical, and some would say (I would if I read this ;) )get over it already - he's gone, but I'm interested to find out what you guys think.

I think he would've beaten Criville, but wasn't he contemplating retirement?

I think that with his development in the 2000 bike, the Repsols would continue to dominate, and he would beat Kenny as well. My guess is that he's retire after last season tops if not in '99, anyway... I'm voting 7, just that I think it'd be nice to have him sharing 7 C'ships with Ago. :)

"if only" he didnt break his leg in 92, mick would have won 92/93/94/95/96/97/98/99/00.....thats 9 titles - i think he would have given criville and kenny a pretty good run in 99/00 respectively......would have been brilliant to see mick gunning for title no. 10 this year against rossi - bit like wanting to see senna take on schumi at both there peaks (note - i dont think young valentino has peaked yet, thats pretty scary for all the other riders)

Good Point Gomick, 10 COOOOOOOOOL

And I agree, Rossi has'nt peaked yet either. He's fast, bloody fast, but needs to mature a little, and when he does, goodnight all. He could get 10 himself.

Bulldirt gomick... "if only" huh?

Well then "if only" Wayne Rainey hadn't been paralyzed he would have prevented Mick Doohan from winning 4 of the 10 titles you sillies want to give him.

And there is no chance that "if only" Doohan hadn't broken his leg he wouldn't have had another accident at another time?

If you start on the if onlys then you'll be here until 2602. There are way too many permutations and combinations. For instance, what if Schwantz was on a Honda?

Well WREX,
my wife and I miss him too, it just isn't the same is it? He was like a Senna of the GP Riders in my book and out of sheer respect, if nothing else ,have voted he would still be King. Sure are alot of "ifs" to fall in to place though !
