How much of the basics do you remember?thebear 2 Dec 2007, 13:33 Click on ENGINES & TECHNOLOGY (http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/quizzes/MechanicalAptitude.php). :woot:  :chflag: JimW 2 Dec 2007, 14:42 460 points. (And I'm an electrical engineer!) Jim mig 2 Dec 2007, 16:36 Passed not bad for a dumb ar*e racing driver dtype38 2 Dec 2007, 19:19 480 points. (I'm a mechanical engineer) Ken MGDavid 3 Dec 2007, 00:54 450 - I'm a project manager in IT falcemob 3 Dec 2007, 14:52 93% I'm a dustman ;) crozier74 3 Dec 2007, 15:48 430. I'm a Mechanical Engineering student. The future is doomed... dtype38 3 Dec 2007, 16:38 93% I'm a dustman ;)But really quite clever, for a dustman. :) PS: I do trust no one is taking more than 10 mins over this :rotate: ScotsBrutesFan 3 Dec 2007, 17:22 400 . I'm an electronics engineer who didn't pay that much attention during the other engineering bits I had to do at Uni. jonners 3 Dec 2007, 18:06 PS: I do trust no one is taking more than 10 mins over this :rotate: Took me longer than 10 mins....and I failed....but I'm a lawyer so don't laugh.... Davhut 3 Dec 2007, 18:31 I'm a lawyer so don't laugh.... "or I'll sue you!" Flunked with 64% Just like in high school in 1967! But the cheerleader sure was fun. And I had some success in photojournalism. falcemob 3 Dec 2007, 18:37 PS: I do trust no one is taking more than 10 mins over this :rotate: All very well and good but we don't all have brand new PCs with 10 gazillion gigs of RAM and a processor the size of a planet do we. Mine takes 10minutes to think about changing pages :? Davhut 3 Dec 2007, 18:52 Not to mention the carpal tunnel and numb mouse hand. broadrun96 3 Dec 2007, 20:09 400 and I'm a forester not an engineer. graham bahr 3 Dec 2007, 20:41 i scored 82%, then my son took the test at which point i realised i had miss read a couple of questions which annoyed me, but i was amazed at my sons score of 60% which sounds low until you take into account he's not a car buff and is only 13! icemachine 3 Dec 2007, 22:05 100% (course I do work in a lab testing tranny bits) GordonG 3 Dec 2007, 22:06 98%. Got one "wrong" as I was assuming finite friction in a real world single pulley, whereas the question assumes (but does not specify) zero friction bearings in the pulleys. I would argue that that demonstrates *more* mechanical understanding than assuming 0 friction, but never mind. A manager. And a pedant. G dtype38 3 Dec 2007, 22:20  I think the hint was in the title of the thread.... "back to basics!" Anyway, did anyone find out how to tell which question(s) they got wrong? (Icemachine is excused from this question) GordonG 3 Dec 2007, 22:40 when you've completed the quiz, there's an icon (a magnifying glass IIRC) whose tool tip is something like review your results... So you lose marks for lack of observation too, DType? Tch. G dtype38 3 Dec 2007, 23:10 Not lack of observation... lack of eyesight! I had to waste time using the "enlarge" function on most of the diagrams to see what they were about - Doh! icemachine 3 Dec 2007, 23:11 At left of screen is a round symbol with two rectangles popup text says 'Show/Hide TOC' - click on it any time and see results icemachine 3 Dec 2007, 23:15 Oh and I find odd they seem to confuse mass and force with some of the pulley questions Notso Swift 4 Dec 2007, 00:13 100% (course I do work in a lab testing tranny bits) Kinky, what you do in your spare time should not be of concern though:D GORDON STREETER 4 Dec 2007, 00:18 96% but I did have the help of a 6 year old ! tzei 4 Dec 2007, 11:48 80% Alan Cherry 4 Dec 2007, 13:03 84% - Just happy to have passed & beaten Mr Bahr ( well I can't beat him on the track ) Notso Swift 5 Dec 2007, 00:56 Oh I forgt to list mine, it was 84, a pass, but only just. Being drunk at the time probably hurt me with silly mistakes. :) Davhut 5 Dec 2007, 04:44 Being drunk at the time probably hurt me... :) Not too different from University times then? Chatters 5 Dec 2007, 15:00 64%. Gives me great confidence heading into my Physics exam next week...! dtype38 5 Dec 2007, 18:35 64%! Physics Exam! But not to worry, one of my best friends used to be a nuclear physicist and he doesn't know his left hand screw thread from his tyre lever! He's pretty good with high pressure sodium boiling regimes though ;) Notso Swift 6 Dec 2007, 04:08 Not too different from University times then? I remember starting Uni... then I had a peice of paper and I was working... just can't connect the dots Rikki Cann 7 Dec 2007, 09:06 2% and im a mechanic:rotate:  GORDON STREETER 7 Dec 2007, 09:47 You did well Rick ! Mr.Jingles 7 Dec 2007, 13:28 Exactly on the pass mark... phew. DaveGT6 7 Dec 2007, 23:20 430 = 86% Not bad for a failed chemical engineer who now sells drugs. Despite all those questions about gears I still don't understand how a differential works:rotate: Alex Hodgkinson 9 Dec 2007, 17:43 420, 84%... and I'm building a car for next season in my garage right now! Worried me half way through as it told me "correct answer" on one of the questions. But only one..! bigted 11 Dec 2007, 13:24 Dont ask me to repair your gearbox!! GolddustMini 14 Dec 2007, 00:15 88% not bad seeing as i know nothing about pulleys so i just clicked through them with random answers yet only got one wrong!, got my levels in pipes question wrong, the worm gear wrong, misread the "braking system" question wrong and i didnt read the bottom two answers on the engine question so clicked suction instead of atmospheric (most embarassing mistake!  ) im an engine builder with a motorsports engineering degree! |
