SHEFFIELD SPEEDWAY
SHEFFIELD 63 TRELAWNY 26
PREMIER LEAGUE

Sheffield take an early lead at the head of the Premier League table with a comprehensive defeat of Trelawny which, despite the scoreline, produced some fine speedway with Scott Smith and Simon Stead winning points the hard way. As is now usual business at Owlerton, Sean Wilson was peerless in an unbeaten showing and Simon Stead also scored full points.

But the main feature of the evening was the continued emergence of Sheffield's teenage brigade.

Nineteen year old Andrew Moore impressed everybody with a very determined and skilful performance to be unbeaten in his first four rides and sixteen year old Lee Hodgson - in his first season of senior speedway - rattled up seven points beating vastly more experienced riders with some ease.

Sheffield were never in the remotest trouble and right from the moment Robbie Kessler won the opening heat the writing was on the wall for Trelawny. But they can take some comfort from the performance of the Czechoslovakian youngster Pavel Ondrasik who quickly learned the fast way round Owlerton, was the only visiting rider to win a race and looks like a major talent for the future.

SCORERS:
Sheffield - Simon Stead 14, Sean Wilson 12, Andrew Moore 10, Robbie Kessler 9, Scott Smith 8, Lee Hodgson 7, Adam Allott 3

Trelawny - Pavel Ondrasik 12, Brett Woodifield 5, Steffan Mell 3, Chris Harris 3, Wayne Barrett 2, Gary Phelps 1, Graeme Gordon 0

Sheffield travel to Arena Essex (Thurrock) tonight (Friday) for another Premier League fixture.

Scott Swain will replace Robbie Kessler who is in Germany for a world championship round.

Sean Wilson then lines up in the British Final at Coventry on Saturday night. His aim will be finish in a high enough position to go forward to the Overseas Final at Poole in June and one step closer
to his desire for Grand Prix racing in 2002.

Thanks,

Andy Machin.
