just been watching a program on motors tv, top ten best raly cars;
there was some amazing footage of the Mk2 Escort with Ari Vatenen
watching it just confirmed how dull curent rally cars are to watch...
Vatenen was braking hard into the corners, nose diving down, still completely sideways, then exiting the corner with lots of lock leaving 2 big black stripes behind! automotive poetry in motion!
Just the hideous voice over and utterly shambloic music to riun the show then

It's certainly cheap and cheerful, but some of the footage is stunning.

yeah I've seen it before as well
the point I wanted to make was how spectacular that escort looked and sounded compared to what we see today on WRC.
having recently stayed up till stupid o'clock to watch Rally Wales (well snippets of RallyWales) on Eurosport, it was as dull as watching paint dry compared to what I just saw on motors tv...

Used to rally a Mk 2 Escort RS 2000 (Group 1) and I must admit we spent much of our time sideways!!
Most of the rallying was in Ireland (Circuit, Cork 20 etc) and I am not sure whether the petrol or Guinness consumption was the higher!!
