Senna05 14 Dec 2007, 03:32 This internet stuff... it's funny.
A name without a face in most instances... someone who you either agree with or disagree with... you can be benevolent, or angered/overjoyed to the limits of emotion by what these people say in a simple motorsport forum...
But hearing that sort of thing really makes these forums just a little bit more real. A family losing a father, brother, husband....etc, so close to christmas. Awfully tragic and horrific.
Althought the family will probably never see this, I pass on my sympathies to them and anyone on here and other forums that were close to him. Seemed like a level headed chap and no doubt will be missed by many.
DAVID PATERSON 14 Dec 2007, 03:36 Bloody hell! :( I enjoyed chatting wth Pete and actually figured i would probably get to meet him one day, we only live about 60km apart.
Thoughts are with his family.
Pro Racer 14 Dec 2007, 03:42 :( :( :( far out, pete was a great contributer to this forum and will be missed in these pages, me and pete had some great discusions main one sticks out in my mind was in the 2008 driver movements threads and how far off i actually was with the thousands of lists i posted, i will get it right one day pete, it's a shame this should happen to end a life prematuarly and so close to christmas.
RIP pete, condolences to all family and friends.

GTRMagic 14 Dec 2007, 04:31 We are all human type people behind our posting names.

Having spoken to Pete a number of times via email, telephone and what have you... his passion was always there.. taking enjoyment from sharing what he knew, from dozens of contacts, about this motorsport caper.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this devastating time.

RIP Pete. Pete to me was some bugger that floated in and out of here, voicing his opinion on and off again and having a good old chin over MSN. He was a kind, nice bloke that would take time off for a chat. You will be sorely missed.
Bloody hell, sad news. RIP Pete! :(
Pro Racer 14 Dec 2007, 05:29 one thing i always admired about pete was if he diagreed with your opinion and it turn into abit of a hard discusion it would never turn into an attack, and he would certainly always answer your questions to the best of his ability.
very sad news indeed.
Pete was a former member of staff here and a regular poster as we all know. he certainly knew his stuff and was one of the best contributors to this little board we all call home.
In his own way he enriched our lives with his wealth of knowledge weather we like to admit it or not.
People come and people go , its the way of the world but memories will always last forever !!
My condolences to Pete's family and friends may he rest in peace
Also a Believer 14 Dec 2007, 05:50 Having spoken to Pete's partner Irene this afternoon I assure you that the family will be keeping an eye on this forum and will be reading your kind words. I spoke to Pete on the phone at least once a fortnight and he was so passionate about the sport we all chat about. RIP mate and I hope you get to sit and chat with your idol in the big house.
Shocking, horrible news.
Pete was one of the few consistently credible posters on the forum; I for one always found his comments well worth reading.

Whoa! That is shocking news... terrible, terrible stuff.
Pete was one of the few in here that always made a worthwhile contribution.

Extremely sad news.
Very much enjoyed Petes insights and contributions to everything motorsport though this place.
Sympathies to family and friends.

H was dedicated to motorsport and anything related to it, especially V8Supercars and Touring Cars.
RIP PETER - you and your contributions on many forums will be sadly missed.
May each and every Forum Participant Past and Present stop for a minute to think of Peter and his family and his passion for our sport.
I smile thinking as we mourn here, that he is up in Heaven talking motorsport with another man named Peter Brock.
An abslute tragedy - why is always the nice people in the world these things happen to ?
It's funny how much you can respect someone you have never met, but only communicated with via the internet.

inpitlane 14 Dec 2007, 13:23 My condolences to all who knew Pete, it's worth remembering that work related accidents take many lives and we should never take anything for granted when we go to work each day. Also never miss the opportunity to tell people you care about how you feel.
Pro Racer 14 Dec 2007, 14:01 well, i'm sure he is up there now telling it the way he sees it to the best and i'm sure agree or disagree those greats of Motorsport will respect his passion and opinion of the great sport.
posting lists in the driver movements thread will not be the same as it used to be as pete's would always be the first post (i come to expect it) "still way off" or something along those lines, and it saddens me now that there will never be a day where i do get to get it right and then see his post straight after the list saying ":woot: finally got it right, only took 70 pages".
Woolley 14 Dec 2007, 14:45 Really don't know what to say. It's surprising how shocking it is to hear such very sad news about someone I never did and probably never would meet. Mike Mike, very said, thanks cheers Peter N RIP Pete55...
My only 'interaction' with Pete was when he sent me a PM stating he didn't like my signature of the time... I told him politely to go forth and multiply. Still didn't stop him from treating me respectfully as a forum member. It showed his true character - he continued to respond to many of my posts - the man was a true motor racing enthusiast, irrespective of our own biases. He was also a great source of [accurate] information.
Chatters 15 Dec 2007, 05:16 I'm speechless.
It's amazing how much you don't appreciate things until they are gone. Peter was one of the most genuine enthusiasts on this forum. He would always see other people's point of view. It is very sad to think that I won't see his name popping up in various threads anymore around here.
R.I.P Peter, thank you for even the relatively little time I knew you.
Wow what to say?
To Pete's family and friends who are reading this my sincere condolonces on your loss. I always thought one day we may of met.
RIP Pete
I don't know what to say...
Under my previous name I talked heaps to pete via Pm, he was always interested on what people had to say and his love for the sport post and present was amazing.
He was straight down to the point and would tell you if you were wrong, although he was a bit of a forum whore he dedicated his time here, even becoming a moderator for this section.
I for one will miss his straight up posting style, thoughts to the family and friends of Peters.
Oh crap. Goodbye Pete. :(

Also a Believer 16 Dec 2007, 08:42 To All,
I have just spoken to Irene, Peter's partner. She is overwhelmed at the messages of condolence that you have all posted here. She aksed me to pass on her heart felt thank you. I like most of you never met Pete55 but spoke on the phone to him regularly. Pete55 will be laid to rest on Saturday next the 22nd at the Kullangor Cemetery, Ackerman Road, Nambour. 1PM.
I will be driving up Friday if anyone from NSW would like to hitch a ride.
Mr_Cool 16 Dec 2007, 09:57 RIP Pete55.
I saw his name everyone on this forum and never did he have a bad word to say to anyone. The forum is now missing something it will never get back. His opinions were valued by everyone and I for one will miss his intelligence of the motor sport community.
A loss of a loved one in December is so terribly hard for one to reconcile with.
I lost a sister in 1956 and a mother in 1995.
You never forget but from their passing, you go on!
To Irene, you may find it difficult to understand why you have lost your partner and a very respected person but you will find the strength to go on.
Somehow, we all do ...!!
If I may take a licence on behalf of many of us, best wishes to you Irene from all the so-and-so's that frequent this very Australian forum!
Mike
A great thing about Pete was that he only ever attacked the post, and not the poster. For that, he had my respect.
He posted knowledgeably and never hesitated to call a spade a shovel. Like many others, I've had my disagreements with him but never, for a moment, did he lose my respect.
Very sad. Condolences to the family. RIP.
A deep and tragic loss of a person whose opinion and respect for all added to our on-line community.
May we never forget him, in the passage of time.
Condolences to his partner, family and personal friends, from an on-line friend.

Pro Racer 16 Dec 2007, 13:27 well it is very hard to lose a loved one at what is suposed to be a time of celebrations, 2 1/2 years ago my grandfather who lived in QLD (me in NSW) had a bad stroke and rapidly deteriated, me and my dad flew up to see him a couple weeks before Christmas and got a massive shock to see him as he had detiriated so much, we had only been up there in July visiting (2 weeks before he had the stroke), anyway we came home celebrated Christmas, on NYE my dad got a phone call to get up to QLD ASAP, that NYE went from happy to sad and we flew up the next day, got a further shock to see the detiration in just 2 weeks and he past away on the 2nd, i know that atleast we got to say good bye and pete's family didn't and even that made me realise how quickly life can be taken away, but my point is that although it is sad it now gives me an extra reason to celebrate on NYE (the life and good times with my grandfather) and i always make sure that i have a drink for him, maybe it might help if pete's family can do something similar.
If I may take a licence on behalf of many of us, best wishes to you Irene from all the so-and-so's that frequent this very Australian forum!
Mike
He had the respect from the Kiwi contingent and others further afield also.
Irene you have every reason to be proud of your man. My thoughts are with you and your family.

:( What to say, I really liked pete, spoke to him through PM and on this forum, he was a funny guy, always put his 20c worth in, mostly knew more than most, but always posted with respect to everyone, what a passion.
I would like to pass on Bruce & my condolences to his family, and also from the Saloon Car Family of which numerous frequent this forum and have all either read his posts or chatted with him.

stoned pony 18 Dec 2007, 02:08 Farewell Pete, from someone who always enjoyed reading your posts.
I can only second that. We will be poorer for Pete's passing.
Just Do It! 18 Dec 2007, 06:38 Well some of you may have noted my absence. I have two good reasons. Firstly, I have been out of town, and secondly - by far the most important - is that learning of the passing of pete55 threw me into a state of shock.
Like so many others on here, I never got to meet the great man, and I know that my life is less rich due to the fact. I have had him "show me the way" on occasion, and also been privy to some hilarious, and at times, insightful private messages. We had a respect that allowed us to agree to disagree, and as such that makes the loss of Pete just that much harder to accept.
Pete was a sharp, honest, and extremely knowledgable 10-10th's poster. He was often delicate in his approach so as to provide some information, but make it subtley clear that he was holding back until A) there was a formal announcement, B) someone else leaked more detail, or C) a combination of the two. He was just about always accurate with any predictions that he gave, and that showed that he was always talking to a lot of people in the sport.
Pete brought wisdom, humility, and facts to this forum and to a sport that often has some interesting characters attached to it. Quite clearly he was able to be trusted by many, and it was clearly known judging by the information that he shared, that he was always fed the whole story and he only passed on snippets - a trait that is rare as everyone wants to be seen to know the most.
At a time of year that is all about giving, togetherness, and family, I cannot begin to imagine the sense of shock and disbelief at Pete's passing. To Irene, his extended family, and friends - some of whom dwell here, my most heartfelt condolences during this traumatic time for you all.
Pete55 will always be remembered as the fact bearing and opinion sharing sharp shooter of 10-10ths. He was very cunning when it came to steering us back on the right course, and I think he may hold the record for the highest number of accuracies per post - "No need for 30 pages, I'll tell you right now" as he once said in a message to me.
As the curtain comes to a close and we farewell and rejoice in a great man's life, others will be just welcoming him into theirs, and there's a great chance that he will be telling them all he knows about what's going on down here.
I propose a toast to pete55 - a great man who will be missed by more people than he probably ever thought. Now there's the mark of a top bloke!
"During your journey on your final flight home.
White wings will carry you and you will be flown.
To the pearly gates of Heaven, where they will usher you in.
To the feet of your Lord, your Saviour, and your friend.
He will hold you in his arms and the angels will sing.
As another one of His children is delivered by white wings."

Datto1600 18 Dec 2007, 14:34 Very very sad news
RIP Pete
Branagan 19 Dec 2007, 00:55 Pete was always passionate about his sport and, as several members have mentioned already, respectful of the views of others, even if they were on the opposite side of any particular view he was expressing. It was also obvious that he had some clear insights into the sport, the way it works and the people in it. He was kind enough to post some positive things about us, which is always nice, and he was able to see the best in others without sounding like he was seeking their favour.
As hard as it would be to lose a valued family member and friend at any time, I can only imagine how tough it would be at this time of year, in particular. To all his family and friends, we extend our sincere condolences.

Just Do It! 20 Dec 2007, 11:56 It's almost a sad irony that Pete should lose his life on Steve Irwin Way. Two great men with two great passions.

888_Fan 21 Dec 2007, 00:48 Unbelievable, I heard at work about an accident at Steve Memorial Way on that very day, then a few days later this thread appeared, would never have thought the two were related.
RIP Pete55.

panel damage 21 Dec 2007, 23:55 To All,
I have just spoken to Irene, Peter's partner.
I was hoping to get up there today, but Im not going to be able to get away. I'll spend the time watching bathurst videos and playing the "v8supercars heartbeat of a nation" song from a few years ago - in rememberence of Pete at 1pm.
While we mourn pete and think of his family and friends, consider the poor bloke driving the truck and his family at this hard time as well.
GTRMagic 22 Dec 2007, 06:20 It was very quiet around my house around 1pm... for a couple of hours...
Vale Peter Traves.
This thread will be moved to the Tributes Forum, where it can be commented on in perpetuity.
Bigblock 22 Dec 2007, 21:04 My wife and I attended Petes funeral and just to let everyone in here know what a moving time it was. One of the nicest touches was the Guard of Honour all his workmates gave him and his last ride on the work ute.
I was lucky enough to know Pete for 30 years of my life, and got to do some amazing stuff with him, got to see his family grow up around him and he was there always for me and mine.
But he was like that with most people he knew, if he could help someone he would
As was said yesterday by his son Kelvin, he was his own man. He said what he thought had to be said, even though he may stand on a few toes.
He loved life, laughing, his kids , and anything that had a motor and went fast. In no particular order of preference.
I know he will never be able to be replaced in my life, or any one elses........... because then they made Peter they broke the mould. He was truely one of lifes gentlemen.
We used to chat regularly on ICQ for ages, and ever time I fire up the computer and it starts automatically, I still catch myself waiting for him to say G'day
Never forget Pete, because if you do, you will lose something truely special.
RIP Mate
panel damage 16 Dec 2008, 10:14 12 months on - pete we still miss you.
Often this year as I've spoken, read or watched reports of races, and issues in our sport - Ive stopped and thought - What would Pete55 have thought of that.
Sadly missed always in our minds
Hard to believe its been a year since that tragic day.
Certainly made me stop and think for a bit. We still miss you Pete.:(
Didn't give my condolences at the time but always read your stuff with interest.
Having lost someone close to me last Monday I know how the pain feels but his legacy will live on with us here.
Go n-éirí an bothar leat, Pete!
