i think its time that they changed venue for awards night. dawson street is not the most happening place. surely its time a proper night was organised.

Not too mention the fact it's held on Wednesday night!!! Why can't they hold it on a Saturday night, everybody can enjoy themselves without the worry of work the next day.

It's time a proper night was organised. Karting, Rallying, Circuit racing all have well organised prize givings.
Why does Rallycross alway feel like the forgotton child of Motorsport?

Good Idea somebody should run it and then all we have to do is Buy tickets to pay for it how many will commit to buying tickets ? I know most officals would. But I would think some drivers should get together and organise it.

The Fiddler
18 Dec 2007, 00:12
agree with you totally. in the past when i have asked this question i was given the impression that the drivers wouldn't put hands in pockets to pay for tickets for a proper night out. maybe if we push this issue hard enough we might have a decent awards night for the end of the 07-08 championship.
rallycross is the forgotten child of motorsport - always under-rated.

The Fiddler
18 Dec 2007, 00:13
tom, surely since those decisions are made at committee level, the committee should orgainise it.

To my knowlage most of these are basicly organised by the competitors eg racing classes Fiats, VEES, Strykers all have there own awards nights organised by themselves. But I cannot see it happening without some input and commitment from outside the committie.

OK if I contact the committee, What do You want ?
Awards ? Bar ? Food ? Finger or sit down? Who will attend Real Names (PM me) ? Price of tickets ? Dance DJ or Band ? I know there are people involved in the championship that can probaly help out will they ? Will need to know soon if to happen in Jan.

i speak on behalf of the bmrt rallycross team and i can deffo say we would all attend and happily pay for tickets proivided the prices werent totally off the scale...

im doin a national championship and i have a few sponsors who have been very good to me. i for one would love to be able to invite them to an awards night, even if i wasnt getting one of the top prizes.

The Fiddler
18 Dec 2007, 20:56
its with all the negative thinking that nothing gets done. you wont know if drivers want a night out until you ask them. thanks paul glad to see someone else wants to drag rallycross awards into the 21st century. even if it is kicking and screaming.

shhh, any chance you can have a word in johns ear and get him to contact all drivers via email. know he would have contacts for most of them.

I would go to give the lads a nightout and bring a few sponsors.

irl06
18 Dec 2007, 21:37
the prize giving could even be held at john's pub, the step inn. nothing wrong with having a good night and supporting one of the committee members/competitors business's also.

would have to get him to quote the committee for such an event. again maybe shhh can help sort this one out.

18 Dec 2007, 22:03
yep... i deffo think shh should bring our comments back to john and maybe he could submit these to the committee.. seen as petitions are now the in thing in rallycross (1 each day on the last 2 rounds!!) we should continue this trend and have a petition at the next rallycross for a proper awards ceremony for the 07/08 rallycross championship (only reason i say for the 07/08 as it may be to late to organise something for the 07 champ)

is anyone with me?

tom kirwan... maybe you could also take note of my comments... i am happy to be listed as a main supporter of a proper awards ceremony. Certainly, if like derrick jobb i was fortunate and lucky enough to win the championship i would love to have a proper ceremony that i could invite family, sponsors and friends along to. I dont think inviting them to 34 Dawson Street would really be appropriate added to the lack of space.!

Will do Paul. I am only in attendance at the committe not a member. Will send e mail to the Secretary Tonight.

The Step Inn will be a non starter in January as yours truly, JMC and Co will have cleared all the stock over the festive season:rofl:

Sounds like a good idea, the bar has hosted a number of motorsport functions already and has some nice pics of DC, MacHale etc on the walls to make you feel at home.

Will i bounce the ball to JMC?

i agree with you paul and since i have sponsors this year it would be nice to have a night i could bring them along to. went to a brda one few years back and it was a great night.

I think if John's place isn't a runner, the Red Cow or maybe some of the new or existing hotels in Tallaght would offer good rates. City centre Dublin on a Saturday night could be difficult to get rooms.

Maybe the 4th weekend in January which is the 27th. The new year blues should be worn off by then plus people have had time to breadth if they went to the Autosport show.

Open forum could be held early evening, followed by a meal, live band and disco...

Drivers spend enough on the cars, having one less round to compete in this year, I'm sure €50 a head isn't going to break their budget. If they say it will, they're lying...

What do you think?

I have just typed up and emailed the following to all members of the rallycross committee.

Hi All,

I am just contacting you regarding the future prospects for the Prize Presentation for the 2007 Rallycross Championship and also for the 2007/2008 Rallycross Winter Series Championship. A number of competitors on the Ten Tenths Internet Forum as well as at events have been enquiring as to the arrangements for the prize presentation for the 2007 championship. The general feeling is that 34 Dawson Street is not easily accessible for most competitors, there is very little atmosphere, and once the presentation of prizes is over there isn't any facility for a gathering afterwards for a few drinks etc. After all this is supposed to be "National" Championship, the same as the Dunlop "National" Rally Championship and therefore should have some effort put into a proper gathering and awards ceremony. I admit we are a small championship but so are some of the classes in the Racing Circles and they all have proper organised awards dinner dances which are a great success.

I propose that at least for the 2007/2008 Rallycross Winter Series, a petition be sent around the paddock at the next rallycross to get an idea of the level of support for a proper awards ceremony, along with some ideas from competitors as to what sort of ceremony they would like to have. As this is a winter series, the championship will be over in March so maybe something like a BBQ in either Mondello Park or the Step Inn might be a nice idea in the summer and I think would go down very well. Of course this would have to be run on a Friday or Saturday night as this has also been mentioned to me as a stumbling block to the current prize giving event as some of us have to work during the week.

At the moment, for competitors like myself who have sponsors to try and impress, all we have is a broken Television deal. I think with a small amount of effort we could have a good awards ceremony, which we would be proud to invite sponsors, family and friends to attend.

Regards.

Paul Grogan - PGMotorsport.com

I will post any correspondance on here.

Mel,

It would be great if some welsh boys like yourself would come over as there was a brilliant night in Citywest a few years ago when Mike Manning won the championship and really added some atmosphere as well as drinking the residents bar dry!!!

What do you think?

The fiat/dunlop supercar awards night in citywest was €40 per ticket. 3 course meal and a band. I've had nicer food but it was a brilliant night all around and just goes to show that we dont have to go mad with ticket prices to put on a good night. (And it was a saturday night before the 4th November rallycross)

dont think anything can be organised in time for jan but certainly for march at end of winter championship.
nice letter paul - guess we will see anne walking around again asking for signatures yet again.

18 Dec 2007, 23:40
well she's on a role with the petitions so i think we may as well give her another one!! shes doing such a good job going around with them why stop!! only problem is we have 2 more rounds to try and think of something to put in 2 more petitions!!!!

absolutly fiddler... No discredit to the lads who did well in the 07 champ but it might, as you say just be a little late. But we will see. I think our efforts should go into the 07/08 champs and onwards.

The Fiddler
18 Dec 2007, 23:51
dont think she will appreciate any more petitions. best of my knowledge she goes for the racing not the petitions and can be quite vocal when spectating.

Matti Alamaki
19 Dec 2007, 00:00
I think that the fiddler is right. It probably is a bit too late to organise for sometime in January and end of March or April probably would be better. I think that it would be a good idea to hand out the prizes then for both the 2007 Championship and the 07/08 Championship. That way no Championship winner from the past year has to lose out.

irl06
19 Dec 2007, 00:02
and in realtion to my email, what do people think of the bbq idea during the summer in the step inn or even somewhere similar...??

The Fiddler
19 Dec 2007, 00:06
bbq would be nice but have to say would also like a formal dinner dance. saturday would be best as then anyone with children stand a chance of getting them minded.

irl06
19 Dec 2007, 00:13
i know exactly what ur saying... i just thought seen as it was summer the bbq idea might be something different.

well i think something quick in january in either the step inn or mondello park as a dry run would be a plan. When i say quick i mean on a fri / sat night... sort of informal gathering in either place with finger food and prize giving and a proper MC for the night. See how that goes, support etc and then work on the next step for the 07/08 prize giving...

Matti Alamaki
19 Dec 2007, 00:34
I think we'd be better off doing it once and doing it right. March/April presenting both seasons awards? People won't want to go to 2 seperate affairs within 3 months. But, we do have to be fair to all 2007 championship winners. It's a catch 22 really.

A Saturday night is a must for babysitters and remember many people now work Saturdays, so Friday nights mightn't work for all.

At least we're all agreeing on one thing, that a proper night out is needed:D
