Hi Folks,

Im currently in the process of building a car for racing in the VW Cup in the uk; Im still to get my Motorsport Ireland Licence for Circuit Racing so have no circuit racing experience. My Primary disipline to date has been rallycross and rallysprints.

Have any of you gone from one to the other or currently compete in both types of disipline (rally and circuit) and is there any major difference (i.e woudl you concider it easier to do circuit racing?)

I have done both, and to be honest whilst they are very different you realise drivingis driving. VW Cup is very tough, but niether is easier than the other - mechanically racing is easier, but from a driving point of view its a dead heat. You have done rallycross so you know not to be bullied - I think you will be just fine. Just boff up on the blue book racing section.

I would say it was safer if anything. I have never done rallying myself but have always thought it looked a bit dangerous, no other cars to bash you but plenty of obstacles to leap out on you and not many nice run off areas if you over cook it. Some rally boys in racing I have come across seem to want to hang the old rear end out a bit too much which as most good circuit boys will tell you is not neccessarily the fastest way around a circuit so maybe some different driving styles will have to be adobted. We had a guy doing this regularly in ModProds and we had to tell him to tame it down a bit, net result is he went quicker.

I did both in my days. I don't think it is more difficult to do one or the other. If you are a true racer, you'll adapt quick enough.
The biggest problem is that all of the sudden you have lots of cars around you, all trying to be as fast as you and all going towards that corner at the same time. Otherwise, proper racing lines are used in rallycross or rallying most of the time as well, so that should not be a problem.

Only thing you do not have to forget: on racetracks it is the black stuff you drive on. ;)

As has been pointed out driving is driving (just another discipline). although some do adapt better. As for "massive" amount of money I would have though to do rallycross is equally as expensive. Certainly the top rallycross must be comparable to say GT/F3 or more ?

Cryos you should know better. Anyway come to play in the new saloon class in Mondello it should be fun a good number of rallycrossers in it. And the Rescue crew already know you well from the past.
