Schanche at Brands

Any of you guys got Video footage of Schanche Flying up Druids at Brands hatch and then wiping out Eklund in a cloud of smoke would love to see that again

Cloud of smoke…? IIRC it was the biggest fireball I saw in RX.

Remember it well from where we were sitting at the top of paddock, in 25 years of spectating it is the worst case of red mist I have ever seen.........

I remember it well as I was one of the marshals putting the fires out! I have a photograph of it at home somewhere.

It was the 13th GP, in December 1994, when Per Eklund drove the white Clarion sponsored Scooby. After a tough first corner battle with Hansen and his ZX Schanche (who subsequently lost his bonnet) went nuts and did not give in. The Swede and the Norwegian where rubbing shoulders on and on till, according to MS, Martin’s foot slipped from the brake over to the gas pedal. His computer later showed that the RS2000 torpedoed the boot of the Impreza with 2.3g and the fuel tank inside exploded containing at least 20l petrol, according to Per.

Martin was on the grass on the inside of the track from Paddock Hill right up to Druids where he ran into Per.
