Ascar

After watching it on Sky last night, I must say I could be persuaded to jump the fence from Touring Cars to ASCAR if the grid numbers go up to about 30 or thereabouts. The racing was really good.
I don't know why, but NASCAR has never appealed to me - maybe its beacuse I don't know any of the drivers in NASCAR, unlike ASCAR.

I have not yet seen ASCAR, because I don't have Sky Sports, but I have to say, if it half as good as NASCAR, it will be great.

Sry silly question: What is ASCAR? I'm live in Europe and I have never heard about that:(

An English variant of NASCAR domaza, actually the cars are based on American ASA (American Speed Association?) a sort of 5th division NASCAR.There has not actually been an ASCAR race yet. What you saw on Sky ,and I was present at, was a 'demonstration' the result was fixed beforehand. When they get to do it for real they will be awesome-forget TOCA.

Yeah TOCA I know and i like it even a little bit. So will these ASCAR cars drive on ovals only? How many ovals are in Britain I know there is a Rockingham one. CART will have a event there this year and surely it's going to be fantastic! I really love CART.

Rockingham is the first banked oval in UK since Brooklands 1907-39RIP.A one mile falt tarmac oval has been used at Mallory Park & Llandow.ASCARs are due to race on road circuits as well as ovals. In fact the rules provide for the ones scheduled for the oval to be moved to the infield road part in the event of rain!

Does Ascar come to Knockhill on the 17th June? Also, have the races there been made into a demonstartion or something?

Is 'MotorsportFan'trying tell us something? Like the Knockhill & Mondello rounds have been cancelled.I think one of the people inverviewed on the Sky programme said there would only be a demonstration at Knockhill.

Sky TV has 'ASCAR from Knockhill'listed for to-day.Curious to see what they actually showed,I switched over during the ad break in F3000 qualifying, and it was ASA from Nashville! First time this has ever been on British TV to my knowledge. Its on again at 8.30pm if anyone is interested.

No coments on to-days news that ASCAR was axed last Friday?

The company Anglo American Stock Car Racing Limited, the driving force behind the new ASCAR series, ceased trading on Friday last week. Lack of funding and problems with the engine at the first round of the series put the nail in the coffin for the doomed series.

The funding to introduce an alternative engine was not found and the series is now defunct.

AXED?

Seems maybe not.The company has ceased to trade, but now Rockingham has a nice shiny oval and only one meeting a year that will use it-maybe none after September. So a rescue package seems likely. If ASCARs,V6 & V8 Sports & Pickups all got together they might have a reasonable grid, but still not the 43 NASCAR fans would expect.
