Formula VW is starting to hit the right notes.
Round three was in Port Elizabeth on Sat and Cristiano Morgado won both races from Gavin Cronje. New talent David Perel was 3rd in first race and in race 2 Wesleigh Orr got third.
Unlike the German series (where these cars came from) they've got 20-valve 2-ltr motors reving to 7900 rpm.

^ He was in British F3 in 2006... and I believe he was meant to do it in 2007 but never did (not 100% sure though).
He also drove in the A3GP races on the A1GP Durban bill in 2005-06 (it was meant to be the first round of the South African-based A3 series... but the series vanished after the first round). The A3GP cars were VW engined, so maybe these are the same cars recycled???

Looks and sounds like the same car... obviously the series did eventually happen, just without the A3GP branding.

Right, I have done some research and have discovered that the Formula Volkswagen cars are indeed the cars built 2 years ago for the A3GP series.

Which is the chassi manufacturer, it is a carbon monocoque? it seems close to an F.BMW?

The A3GP cars built 2 years ago has carbon fibre chassis and were maye by Reynard... so these will be the same.

The cars first saw light of day as far back as 2002 and then raced in Germany prior to being shipped to South Africa. Originally they were built by Reynard.
Morgado did race F3 (Fluid) and Gavin Cronje did a season of Euro F3000 a few years ago.

After 7 rounds Morgado leads by 2 points from Cronje.
Wesleigh Orr is a regular and scored two second places last weekend at Phakisa after Cronje was on the back foot thanks to a practice crash. Morgado won both races.
Cars are still running to restricted revs but are fitted with 20-valve 2ltr motors as opposed to the 8-valve units they had in Germany and the first (and only) A3GP race in Durban a few years ago.
They are faster than V8 Supercars (similar to TransAm) and are the fastest things racing in South Africa but fields are thin.
Are the cars runned by professional teams? what does get the winner of this championship?

Winning cars are run by professional teams.
Thompson Racing looks after Morgado & Cronje, Terry Moss looks after Michael Stephen while Orr is with SAM Racing and Vic Maharaj prepares Tasmin Pepper's car.
Fields are small but the racing is good. Needs more promotion, but South Africa is gearing up for soccer World Cup.
Does these Teams have any websites? What will get the winner of this Championship? Any test drive a VW Powered Formula3?
