Does any one know much about Ray Heppenstahl. In the 60's he bought a Lotus racer and converted it to a VW engine and raced it. What lotus model was this? Who did he buy it from. Where did he race it?

There’s lots about Ray Heppenstall’s career here:
Ray Heppenstall (http://website.lineone.net/~pete.stowe/pete_heppenstall.htm)

In this transcript of an interview (http://www.racingarchives.org/transcripts/rayheppenstall.htm) with the International Motor Racing Research Library at Watkins Glen he had this to say about the Lotus-VW:
‘When they announced the Super Vee Series, I found a Lotus Formula 3 car that had been wrapped around a tree, straightened the chassis, and put it all together with a Type I Volkswagen. Volkswagen said "Oh no, this must be the Type 4 engine." That car went on to become a VW powered midget and ran some oval races.’
I assume it was someone other than Ray who raced it on the ovals.

(Can someone correct the spelling in the thread title please?) - Now done, Pete, apologies for delay - JT
