Measuring Castor

Here we go then - nice easy question for the suspension geometry people. How do you measure castor ?
I understand what the castor angle is and why we need it and how to set it. However the question is how to measure it in practical terms, I understand it to be measured as the change in Camber from 20deg Left lock to 20deg Right lock. However if you look at a Castor / Camber guage the castor readings are expanded compared with the camber readings.(I have an old Dunlop CG2 set, but it is the same on any bubble scale.) I'll try to explain - The camber scale has zero in the centre and can read up to +/- 5deg each way over the scale. The castor scale starts at zero at one end and goes up to 7deg at the other end over the same physical length of scale. (Therefore 1deg in castor scale = approx 1.2deg in camber scale). Anyone care to explain that for me ???

Castor is measured by taking a line through the top and bottom ball joints and measuring how far from vertical it lies back (or forward),castor and camber are two seperate measurments, and camber is not always affected by altering castor.
