Here is a tough question for you all. I am leaning towards Robby Gordon because he is younger and seems to be a better ovals driver.

Scott Pruett or Robby Gordon, which one will have a more successful NASCAR career?Joe Fan 20 Mar 2000, 20:25 Here is a tough question for you all. I am leaning towards Robby Gordon because he is younger and seems to be a better ovals driver. KC 20 Mar 2000, 21:58 I don't know. If you compare their careers in completion then most likely Gordon will drive for longer and accumulate more poinst than the older Pruett. But, Pruett is no rookie by every standard. He is an accomplished open wheel, sports car, and IROC racer. He leads the rookie points by quite a bit at this time. In the short term I think that Pruett will be a better driver because he already knows what it takes while Gordon is just beginning to learn the patience and miserly driving skills of oval racing. papisfan 21 Mar 2000, 03:23 I have to go with Gordon. Gordon seems to be able to adapt to different kinds of cars. Look at there performances this year. Pruett has not qualified for 2 races. marcus 21 Mar 2000, 14:49 Pruett is not doing to well at present ..but I think eventually will get it right and do rather well..as for Robby..dont know..the guy is pretty gun ho and some of the more established NASCAR drivers have not taken a liking to him..all in all I think Tony Stewart will be a better Nascar driver than both of them :) John B 22 Mar 2000, 02:33 I agree about Gordon. Pruett made his mark as an excellent road racer in IMSA and Trans-Am. As Jack Roush said about him "I offered him first shot at my #16 car ten years ago, but wouldn't do it now." Joe Fan 22 Mar 2000, 03:08 John, what is funny about Jack's comment is that I think last year Felix Sabates (Robby's former employer) was talking to Robby about coming back to him when the #42 ride became available. That ride eventually went to Kenny Irwin but I guess Felix thought enough of Robby to give him a second chance. From what I heard they departed on good terms the first time. John B 22 Mar 2000, 03:20 Interesting. I'll be watching both drivers at the road courses where I expect them to be well above their current level. Gordon had a great run a couple years ago in the #96 Caterpillar car (not the hottest ride on the track) on a one-race deal at Sears. There was a good article in Autoweek about the car, which had all kind of trick road course setups. |
