As this thread hasn't been started here i assume non of you are driving in or visiting the race? Was there yesterday and looks like a great fun race weekend. I am on spanners this year but deffinatly will be driving it next year, pending CAMSO dates. If any of your are coming down, I'm in garage 11 b. Don't feed the chimps.

I popped along last night and had a wander along the garages, but it was quite late and a lot had shut up for the evening.

Good luck to all those racing and because I'm biased (drivers from the DMN) the Xsport and Backdraft teams!

Xsport are there with a team - John Cross, Greg Rose and Martin Johnston with a Seat, and then as Jim says Mark Hoskin is there with TT with Chris Adams also driving. I did take a wander round and did find the two teams (at opposite ends of the pit lane) but there wasn't a lot going on at about 10:30pm.

Have a great time Jim!

Guys who shunted on first lap, when I left at 2100 information was guy is OK and evi. medicopter wansn't needed, any news, and what has hapened (I was at Luffield, didn't see happenings)? Great race, unfortunatelly race control messed up, IMO, with Group 1 cars placing them behind the field at restart. Great event anyway.

C'mon Team #96.

Apparently #3 spun and #4 hit the pit wall

I was racing in it, Daniels Motorsport Civic Type-R. 22nd overall despite 3 fuel pump problems (debris in britcar pump fuel?) and not having 4th gear for the last 12.5hrs.

Awesome race and good to hear Andy Neate (TVR driver in crash at start) is OK.

paragon 1st 2 laps in lead.
Andy hack and gang car 90 desiel golf first in class, having brocken drive shaft, then later loosing rear wheel.

Xsport finished. Had change gear box.

Back draught retired with head gasket.

Kelvin team lotus 1st in class i think.

Shame about the strart but very enjoyable event.

This is our onboard cam system and is onboard of the first 10 mins after the race went green. The system is very much a proto-type and not configued yet (i.e. g-forces meters are offset). Sorry for duff audio, mic issues.

i would like to thank the teams, for mostly following our requests in the later hours, by adding humour to the pit reports

i was the young one that was sitting at the laptop most of today

Thanks to everyone that gave us freebies, we were etting very bored towards the end with very little to do

following on from my last comment, #42 earns the prize for the funniest pit reports.

22 Sep 2008, 10:36
Naa we was second Rob. Only 23 seconds in it though, was annoyed at the time but i'm over it now;) Was it #42 who had a "convenience stop" on the first caution period?

I must honestly say I am in love with Britcar, enjoyed every minute of my three hour stint at Luffield and main straight, didn't c what's happened at first lap, but as i said to you earlier I was worried cause I saw medicopter landing by medical centre and thought (f word) this is bad. G8 driver is OK.

Went to Silverstone to meet with Palmer Sport rep's and speak to Anna Walewska only but stayed there and enjoyed the atmosphere, unf. I couldn't stay overnight, but my pal stayed till 2300 and took great snapshots.

PS. Who was the car parked behind the gate with 10-10s labels and sun cover at back screen window?

I'm sorry to have to report that the driver of the TVR, Andy Neate, is anything but ok. He has sustained some very serious injuries as a result of his impact with the Ginetta and the pitwall. Reports of several broken ribs and punctured lungs are coming in from different sources, but his wife has confirmed he has a broken neck as well, which is obviously life-threatening. He's been put into an artificially-induced coma while the doctors attempt to stabilise him.

Our thoughts should be with Andy Neate and his wife and children, at this time, and I'm sure you'll all want to give your best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I dont know but after 22 hours they had "a regular 5000 mile service + tyres + vat"

The best demonstration of pitlane marshals boredom was the #20 Astons stop/go penalty, probably 10 marshals went out for it

Best wishes to Andy Neate and his family, looked like a horrible incident

we fiunished 11th overall and 2nd in class in which was a trouble free race apart from a drive shaft and coil pack that needed replacing . although a brake pad change in the last hour with our closest rivals 2 laps behind was scary . roll on next year

was a great race :) was there with the 68 integra of mardi gras motorsport which didnt have the best of race's but we some how got to the finish. hope andy gets better soon was in shock when i saw that on the tv. and
maximum respect to xero for the engine change and between we both limped over the line both cheering each other on. with our last minute problems with 30 minutes left and limping round for one last lap.

22 Sep 2008, 19:09
we see you climbing back up the field and after having to make a last minute brake change and it was getting close in our class it was looking tight between us the beetle and your honda for a podium finish

22 Sep 2008, 19:21
yeah it cancelled all our hopes out but think we would have stuggled in the last 30 minutes to make up the laps.

well that was one heck of a weekends racing. the XSPORT RACING seat leon didn't have the best of starts to the race with a air intake pipe falling off and sucking its self to the back of the headlamp on the warm up lap.this we put down to a lot of luck as we may have been in the first lap melee in which andy got badly hurt.then on lap 5 our driver had to take a "convienience break" whick he took a bit of ribbing over.one gear box , a set of pads, some turbo bolts a lot of second hand tyres and enough fuel to fill the amoco cadiz ended in a finish on our first attempt of the britcar 24 hr with a final place of 26 overall and 6 in class.well done lads and lasses a good job done im sure next year we can do better as we definatly learned a lot of how to do it .

I hope ANDY NEATE makes a speedy recovery from that nasty crash and all our best wishes are with his family/friends and team at this time .

22 Sep 2008, 23:47
Did you say Turbo Bolts?

bdwoody
22 Sep 2008, 23:57
yep they fell out.......them pesky VAG standard jobbies.but i screwed some more in at 3 ish in the morning i think, with the turbo glowing red hot with the thickest welding gloves i have and that seemed to do the trick as it lasted another 13 hours till the end......

great weekend

but very tired now

we did 502 laps in the end!!

with our stop to change the gearbox costing us only 88 minutes

so we lost about 38 laps with that one,

mechanics did well to get it done so fast

susprised the old seat leon kept going, and was as fast after 23 hours with no loss of power

only used one set of front pads and a million used tyres think we where on set 18 in the end as we numbered each set of four,

had a bit of a drawback with the little 64 lt seat fuel tank ,making us pit every 70 minutes ,

but we knew we where only there this year to get some exsperience and get a feal for how it all works,

may be next we will get a bigger tank and try 2 hour plus runs

just goes to show how good the 20v engines are, and did not even burn any oil!

Yes I think the head gasket went about half 7 as I was about to leave the house (I was sad enough to have the online commentary stream on whilst getting ready to go to Brands) was a shame as they'd been running well up until then.

martinlabatts
24 Sep 2008, 20:28
i think there water pump went and it then must have overheated

real shame as they where running high in ther class and going well

they managed 336 lapas before the car gave up,

mark came in our garage a couple of time for a chat,

24 Sep 2008, 22:21
yeh real shame about the tt as we were having a good scrap with them and they were brilliant when we needed to get in the garage very curteous. that car was driven bloody hard though the tyres looked a mess after 2 stints on them.

bdwoody
24 Sep 2008, 23:29
i have to say our boys did bloody well on second hand tyres and only managed to canvas one of them in the middle of the night.having chatted to the dunlop chaps it seemed a lot of money was spent on rubber all weekend and i think all the driver now own their own smog cloud with the amount of gas that was burned up .;)

Nick, the friend racing in Backdraft team, was in the 2CV 24hr race with me a few weeks ago - I guess this is a bit of a step up!!! (45->350hp)

Shame about the gasket then - I'll try and get Nick to give me a full report!!
