Rod Birley 12 Oct 2008, 16:51 If anyone is interested in two 15 minute races for £190 at Brands Hatch on November 9th please either contact me or Chezza. Most steel bodied saloon cars (Tin Tops) running on either list 1A or 1B tyres should be eligible, if in doubt contact Graham Bahr (aka "Guru"). Regs and entry forms are on the BARC website in the south east centre section.
carrera 12 Oct 2008, 18:44 Would like to partake if we survive Snett next weekend. Is it a TT only event?
Rovcoup 12 Oct 2008, 20:31 If i can find some tyres i would like to race only got slicks but iam sure ive got 4 r888s somewhere and iam looking to race in the tintops next season, will i get away with no headlights for one race ?
Rod Birley 12 Oct 2008, 20:31 The tin tops are seperate from the intermarque for this one. Be good if you can join in.
MGDavid 12 Oct 2008, 21:53 it seems Registration of new drivers is a problem - or is there a way round Regulation 1.4.3 ?
james l 13 Oct 2008, 11:47 rod,
i would like to enter this one, but if i break the car badly on last dmn round and am unable to repair in time would i get my money back?
Rod Birley 13 Oct 2008, 12:01 In answer to your question James....yes.
In answer to MGDavid's question, there will be "guest" classes, so regulation 1.4.3 will not apply.
Alan Cherry 13 Oct 2008, 12:08 I've sent my money off.
Rovcoup - If you can only cobble up a pair of road legal tyres, (provided I don't get any punctures) I've got two list 1A ****e specials that are mounted on 7x17 rover rims, and fit straight on to a 220 turbo coupe - your'e welcome to borrow them for the day-
I think the ones I'm running on my car are TOYO Proxes T1s, and these two are T1r's - list 1A, so they should drop you down a class !
jonbryant 13 Oct 2008, 14:10 I'm there taking pictures. But that is not classed as a surprise now...
<sets surprised look> really jon, I wan't expecting that <unsets suprised look>
jonbryant 13 Oct 2008, 18:37 :p
Rovcoup 13 Oct 2008, 23:16 Well ive found 4 toyo r888s not much tread left on them so hope it doesnt rain, entry ready to go tomorrow.
Excellent, I'll look forward to receiving it.
MGDavid 13 Oct 2008, 23:41 loooks promising, is there a timetable yet, could both Tintops be done in a day (from 1.5 hrs away) or will it be a 'be there night before' job?
The tintops will have practice and both races on the Sunday.
Rod Birley 14 Oct 2008, 00:01 Qualifying will be at about 10.30AM, then two races in the afternoon.
carrera 19 Oct 2008, 20:47 Car is in one piece. Are there still places available for this?
Rod Birley 19 Oct 2008, 21:11 YES. Please send your entry to Chezza as soon as possible please.
It will be good to see you racing with us again "Carrera".
MGDavid 19 Oct 2008, 22:50 Qualifying will be at about 10.30AM, then two races in the afternoon.
Hmm sounds very civilised, unfortunately our car is no longer in one piece, it poked a rod through the side today at Snett and I'm pretty doubtful to locate a good engine and have it ready in time. Hey-ho there's always next year...
carrera 20 Oct 2008, 20:53 YES. Please send your entry to Chezza as soon as possible please.
It will be good to see you racing with us again "Carrera".
I'm loaning my car out, so unless he gets cold feet it will only be a race to Hailwoods for breakfast for me.
Alan Cherry 20 Oct 2008, 21:15 I'm loaning my car out, so unless he gets cold feet it will only be a race to Hailwoods for breakfast for me.
Who's in the Hot seat ? is it the BX, or Xantia ?
carrera 20 Oct 2008, 21:38 Who's in the Hot seat ? is it the BX, or Xantia ?
Micky will be driving the..................
XSARA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alan Cherry 21 Oct 2008, 00:29 Micky will be driving the..................
XSARA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shows my ignorance of all automotive things french - Xantia was a big old beast. Only experience of french cars is blatting around in Matt Smiths BX, truly awful electrics on my brothers Peugeot ( that he put out of it's misery at Madgwick- Goodwood ) and a score draw between the Astra door Mirror and a certain BX door on the GP circuit at Brands !;)
carrera 21 Oct 2008, 20:23 Alan, it will be Micky's race debut so there will be a nice big X on the rear end for you to aim at! Please don't hit the doors, you might break my leccy windows.
Robert Morris 21 Oct 2008, 20:23 is there a class e with the tin tops?
carrera 21 Oct 2008, 20:27 AFAIK the classes T1 T2 T3 are based on cc and tyres. Reckon our Citroen being T3 but moving up to T2 as using Toyo R888 tyres
Class E is an ntermarque class and for this round they will be running with the Intermarque.
Alan Cherry 22 Oct 2008, 10:43 is there a class e with the tin tops?
Robert, can't you beg/borrow/steal a set of mini wheels with road tyres, and come and join the Tintops in T3 ? You'll be much better off with us heavy old barges than those quick super duper space framed specials!
Alan
Robert Morris 22 Oct 2008, 12:57 Alan a good idea. I have a set 13" yoko on wheels but not sure they fit under the arches on my car, but i think i will check it out.
Big Dave 22 Oct 2008, 19:17 13" wheels on a mini!!! all minis (REAL) should be on 10s Should of kept them Avons:p
Big Dave 22 Oct 2008, 19:20 No on a serious note i have a set off decent 008s or a set of part worn after track day;) mini 7 tyres welcome to borrow either
Robert Morris 23 Oct 2008, 09:40 Thanks for offere gavin you have reminded me ive got set avon on wheels.
i will think on it today
well time is starting to run out...so you'd better think quickly!
Robert Morris 24 Oct 2008, 09:28 Entry in post for class e many thanks
265jaguar37 25 Oct 2008, 03:48 hi all you tin tops out there, the jag is coming out to play at brands on the 9 th of nov as i couldnt make the festival at lydenn and it looks like you will be stuck with me for 2009 ,any idea what tyres would best suit me for 2009 ,i've only ever had vredestien sportrac 3 control tyres before , regards ken
bdwoody 25 Oct 2008, 22:05 cool, super sideways ken in the "big oll" jag is back...:)
Alan Cherry 28 Oct 2008, 17:48 Do we have a list of runners and riders yet ?
Besides the usual ladies and gents, it looks like we will be entertained by Rovcoup, Xsara, Robert Morris in his Mini, and Ken in his Jag ( If you're the same gent who raced at the Lydden festival in 2007, I'm sure I saw you going in a straight line for at least 100yds:rofl:
I may be going a bit senile, but I'm sure a couple of the DMN lads mentioned about using some treaded tyres and coming out for an end of season play!
Chezza, when will the entry list be published ?
Eddy - are you coming over for this one ?
Alan
Rod Birley 28 Oct 2008, 18:19 Entry list is now full, with reserves. I think T2 is the most popular class, and yes it is the same Ken with his sideways Jag. The list will be on my site later this week, although you may have your tickets and stuff tomorrow.
I hope to be there Alan. Problem is that there is a race at Zolder on the Saturday untill 10 in the evening. (God, I'm going to hate that).
So depending on guessing how fit I am going to be that day, I will book my trip early next week. Get it?
Never mind, I don't get it either. :old:
I think we need a "senile git" smiley.
jonbryant 28 Oct 2008, 21:42 I think we need a "senile git" smiley.
We already do. It's just to the left of some posts and is spelt "Eddy V" ;)
265jaguar37 28 Oct 2008, 21:48 hi guys i'm realy looking forward to brands but i must warn you that the jag does go around corners now due to the generosity of sponsors ,www.canonfire.co.uk who paid for the springs and shockers , its also a lot faster due to a new exhaust system made by myself and the fitment of a fuel pressure regulator/fuel injection system, coupled with a session on the rolling road, but i still like to entertain and have fun, although i'm building a fresh x300 jag to come out and play with you lot for next season, god i can't wait , i may bump into some of you on sunday ,(trucks seem to go around corners like my jag) regards ken.
:gfight: Oi, Bryant, I read that.
bdwoody 28 Oct 2008, 22:04 hi guys, i may bump into some of you on sunday ,(trucks seem to go around corners like my jag) regards ken.
not to much bump ken ,brands has a habit of that you know....;)
Rovcoup 28 Oct 2008, 22:29 Hope i do better than my last visit to Brands
http://www.ae-photography.co.uk/gallery/Air_Ambulance_Race_Day_Brands_Hatch_150608_AE_74.jpg
Nothing like a bit of rallycross to liven up the day!
Rod Birley 28 Oct 2008, 23:47 Normally it's a VW Beetle that goes "rallycrossing" through the gravel. This time there will be four of them.
Robert Morris 30 Oct 2008, 20:33 Is this event rolling or standing starts? sorry have no regs so cant look up.
Rod Birley 30 Oct 2008, 21:20 Rolling starts.
Alan Cherry 31 Oct 2008, 10:57 The entry list is up on Rods site - full plus reserves. I hope Cannons are coming along, because on paper, it looks a cracker.
I'm assuming class G is 'GUEST'
It will be interesting to see how the DMN guys who are bolting on some road tyres for this event will get on against the regular front runners. The entry for car44 from West Kingsdown looks interesting !
Rod Birley 31 Oct 2008, 11:19 Yes Cannons are coming. And "G" is for the guest classes mainly from John Willcock's TTRS brigade.
Alan...its a different car 44...
Its also nice to see some of the tintop regulars from last season coming back out for this final thrash before we finish for the year.
Alan Cherry 31 Oct 2008, 16:00 Alan...its a different car 44...
.
I guessed that - seems almost like going back in a timewarp - Don't suppose it'll have tooleater on the front number plate, and what was the name of that garage in Lewisham ? If we go back any further, I'm sure Rod (pre Hotrod days) started out in some sort of production Imp. That was in the days of the Tin roofs in the top paddock - no bottom paddock then ! - before you were born !:old:
BertMk2 31 Oct 2008, 16:29 So whos car are you borrowing Rod?
Copperbottom 31 Oct 2008, 17:09 So whos car are you borrowing Rod?
HMM,I wonder if it's silver? Will someone confirm whether I'm racing on the 8th in the intermarques (as entered) Or 9th (as per the entry list)?? I'd planned on racing on the 8th and working on the 9th but I can swap back again:)
Rod Birley 31 Oct 2008, 17:46 You are om the 9th now, otherwise you would have been a reserve on the 8th
Copperbottom 31 Oct 2008, 17:49 You are om the 9th now, otherwise you would have been a reserve on the 8th
Thanks Rod:cool: am I sorted for tomorrow now?
carrera 31 Oct 2008, 18:14 Noticed that the Nov 8-9 event is not listed on front page of 10/10 unlike the Nov 1-2 event.
Thats mainly because its the DMN rounds that are listed...I'll see if i can get this one listed.
Alan Cherry 3 Nov 2008, 13:11 Timetable for both days available on www.msvracing.co.uk
Chezza.
I can see there is about four on the reserve list but if some drop out at the last minute could you let me know. Thank you.
Big Dave 4 Nov 2008, 18:05 How many races has that engine done now then KJW
andypipe 4 Nov 2008, 18:16 Any one got any spare tickets. Might pop down for this

golfwidow 6 Nov 2008, 14:14 i don't mind a repeat of last Sundays weather it was gorgeous standing on the start finish straight for the boys race
Alan Cherry 6 Nov 2008, 15:24 Local BBC forecast says rain 13 degC max

Copperbottom 8 Nov 2008, 18:21 How'd everyone get on today? Just checked the forecast and it looks like it'll be dry tomorrow :)
jonbryant 8 Nov 2008, 20:42 Very nasty and hideous accident in the MR2's which I never wish to see again. Won't say any more but I hope the guy recovers quickly...
Good Intermarque races as usual! Rod with a couple of wins
Rod Birley 8 Nov 2008, 21:42 First race was wet, very wet. Second race it started to dry and one guy even went on slicks. Well done Gareth Smith you are a brave person, and congratulations on getting married yesterday!! What a way to spend your honeymoon.

You were bloody brilliant to watch Ken. Storming drive in the wet!
Rod Birley 9 Nov 2008, 22:25 Ken got a well deserved driver of the race award. Congratulations to all the winners and everyone who took part. Everyone at BARC south east are very proud of the fact that in the last two weeks we supplied over 100 cars to race in our three races. Well done to you all.
Rod Birley 9 Nov 2008, 22:30 I must say a big thank you to Andy Pipe and his team for letting me play in his car. Slicks in the wet is an interesting experience. Great to have Gordon Streeter alongside for several corners.
retro_msport 9 Nov 2008, 23:11 Rod... our turn.. LOL
Who had the biggest pit crew today then .. LOL
Two good clean drives from you, shame you couldnt exploit the car due to conditions/tyres and congrats too you for winning another Championship

Jo had a fantastic 1st year - you show 'em girl!!!:p
I just wanted to add well done to James today (i know i'm biased) but thought both races were fantastic between James and Julian, kept me on my toes! Gutted James spun off though! He still come away smiling:)

LOL
Char1ie 10 Nov 2008, 12:50 Anybody got any photos from yesterday's tin tops race? I had a laugh and was quite surprised at how slippery grass can be when you're going backwards down a long slope with all four wheels locked ;-)

GORDON STREETER 10 Nov 2008, 18:26 I must say a big thank you to Andy Pipe and his team for letting me play in his car. Slicks in the wet is an interesting experience. Great to have Gordon Streeter alongside for several corners.
Rod if its any consolation I was on dry tyres as well. I have got some racing wets but didn't bother to put them on as I thought it might dry up !
Big Dave 10 Nov 2008, 18:26 Yes just relised James was on road tyres even better than i thought, Well done!!
absolutely what a superb drive :burn: :brm: :second:
Copperbottom 10 Nov 2008, 19:35 Road tyres were the way to go in my opinion, mind you I was on full slicks and still managed to beat a mini or 2 and other fwd cars that had treaded tyres:p

tail out 10 Nov 2008, 20:51 I suspect that the Vauxhall had a bit more power then the Mini as well it probably has a Two Litre Red top engine in it.But it might be a bit heavier also.

Robert Morris 10 Nov 2008, 21:39 Sorry i did not put Geralds name in has he did not race.
Some great racing yesterday, well done to Gary and Danny.
All very clean racing, and didn't you hate the safety car interventions as well?
James' spin was a great shame, he was just a bit too fast at that point.
Well done to all involved, another great championship by that same group of people.
:winner:
And did I like the Jag, some perfect driving there Ken!
Copperbottom 10 Nov 2008, 21:49 Sorry i did not put Geralds name in has he did not race.
OK,OK I beat 1 mini:D .To be honest I was just glad to finish without any damage;)

Safety cars:rant: in the 1st race the car infront of me overtook 3 others under yellow flags and SC boards and in the 2nd race the car that I was following was 1/2 the straight off of the back of the pack when the SC pulled in:hair:
Next time, just "push" him gently on by hanging 2mm off his bootlid. They will get the idea.
The marshals probably reported the overtaking under yellows, I "got" me a Porsche driver in the GT Cup for overtaking under red flags.
WAHAHAA. 2 points on his licence.
Mike Savage Photography 10 Nov 2008, 22:31 I have just uploaded my images from the weekend. Mainly Intermarques and TinTOPs but a few others that I had too.

MiniMadness 11 Nov 2008, 11:58 Very nasty and hideous accident in the MR2's which I never wish to see again. Won't say any more but I hope the guy recovers quickly...
Good Intermarque races as usual! Rod with a couple of wins
Jon don't know if you knew or not but both drivers have been released with either bruised ribs or one broken rib and bruising to the pelvic region.
I was back there with Tris on Monday, the weather was terrible, with driving rain blowing across the track and running water everywhere (I even managed to cook the engine even with all that rain!!)
XR2racer 11 Nov 2008, 14:19 Just wanted to say thank you to Rod, Cheryl and everyone else involved.
My brother and I both raced in Tin Tops for the 1st time on Sunday and had a fantastic time. Unofortunately we didn't get to chat with anyone as we only finished building his car at 7 Sunday morning and had a few tweeks to do during the day.
Having completed 2 eventful seasons in Stock Hatch it was great to be involved in 2 races, in pretty awful conditions with FWD and RWD of varying speeds, that ended with no damage to either car and no crazy moves.
I had some very close racing with the white Escort in the first race and a couple of others in the second race and enjoyed every minute of it.
We are now seriously considering changing championship for next year. I have had a look on the Tin Tops site but can somebody give me a hint as to where I can find a full set of regs for 2009 and an idea of the probable calendar (will all the races be short or will some be 40 mins?)
Thanks in advance.
A very happy racer.
I was back there with Tris on Monday, the weather was terrible, with driving rain blowing across the track and running water everywhere (I even managed to cook the engine even with all that rain!!)
have you finished buidling your Mini then MM?
Or was it an MR2 that you cooked?

Thanks for the experience. I hope you enjoyed it, sorry about the lack of tyre choice. Got to say its strange watching your own car race
Big Dave 11 Nov 2008, 15:54 I also have some which I will upload later on. What car were you in?
Go back one page on this thread and there is a link to lots of photos for you hope this may help:)

snowen250 11 Nov 2008, 17:41 Great days racing, even though i did get my dads car stuck in the mud at south bank..........oops!
Great racing from the tintops, loved watching the big Jag and the lil Renault 5 race in the first race! I;m guessing Char1ie that you were in the green/yellow sierra! Did enjoy seeing you fight back through the pack though. Great clean racing overall, not a bad race all day from any of the series!
Quite a few safety cars though and shame Nigel Craig and his Xtrac Escort didnt feature due to the first race bump.
Simon
Hmmmmmmm bloody Golf's getting in the way again.:third: :second:
Quite a few safety cars though and shame Nigel Craig and his Xtrac Escort didnt feature due to the first race bump.

It's not an Xtrac Escort Simon, but I don't think Nigel would mind if it was as they must be worth a mint these days!
Copperbottom 11 Nov 2008, 18:27 It's not an Xtrac Escort Simon, but I don't think Nigel would mind if it was as they must be worth a mint these days!

jonbryant 11 Nov 2008, 19:43 Fraid not Nick. Would have meant a walk and it was raining...
XR2 Racer (Michael/Jason...not sure which one you are!) the regs and calendar for 2009 haven't been finalised yet, but the regs are not expected to change a great deal from 2008 and the calendar will be on similar lines.
2008 Regs here: http://www.barc.net/regional_centres/south_east/documents/BARCTinTopRegulations2008.pdf
And this will be updated with the 2009 ones as soon as they are ready.

carrera 11 Nov 2008, 20:17 Just wanted to say thank you to Rod, Cheryl and everyone else involved.
There are two Tin Tops series!
Chezza has provided addy for the south-eastern based series which is supported by Cannons, as in Sunday's races; the other is run by CSCC (probably the site you found) and features 40 minute races with one or two driver option.
Char1ie 11 Nov 2008, 21:01 I also have some which I will upload later on. What car were you in?
Yellow Sapphire Cosworth with green arse and touringcarspares sticker which someone was commenting on pre-race 2. My first race in the rain. And a sudden spin which I hope was oil as I was going very gently.
Charlie
snowen250 11 Nov 2008, 21:04 Aahh i thought i recognised you from Lydden etc etc! Some pictures do exist of said car stuck in the mud, my girlfriend was only too happy to take them as i struggled to get it out of the mud.
Could have sworn the commentators called it an xtrac! nevermind, and with the spin Char1ie did u not put a wheel on the grass? lots of people did and lots spun :)

MiniMadness 12 Nov 2008, 08:50 have you finished buidling your Mini then MM?
Or was it an MR2 that you cooked?
The Mini finished  maybe by this time next year. It was one of the growing number of MR2s in our fleet.
One day I may get rid of all the cars and bought one decent one. :banghead:

Ah thought that might have been you!
It was my first time at Brands (well for about 15 years anyway), I normally follow the Ma5da Racing series. I knew you would have got the crash at Paddock in the Ma5da practice!

Look forward to seeing you there next season :)
Rovcoup 12 Nov 2008, 23:51 Well i enjoyed racing on sunday had a few problems with the car, rear tyre was rubbing sorted that out with the trusty hammer and a misfire which i didnt sort and the car was down on power and was having trouble pulling out of the corners.
Was my first meeting on road type tyres with no testing and didnt really feel happy during qualifiying and to see it start raining put me in to panic mode but i was surprised and the car wasnt to bad to drive in the wet and i even put a move on Mr winstone around paddock only to leave the door open into druids but must of gave him a shock because he speeded up after that.
I will be joining the tintops next year so i better find my headlights.
Tony Harrison
Rod Birley 13 Nov 2008, 09:34 Great to hear you are joining us Tony. Cannons have pledged more support for next year, along with Toyo Tyres. First round will (more than likely) be at Brands Hatch on March 15th. Registration is going to be just £25, and south east centre membership is currently only £48.
jonbryant 13 Nov 2008, 10:00 March 15th? *shivers*

Ah, the Hot Toddy flask, the singing of Carols, "bring it on"!
That is right Gordon, but you can find me at home when it snows. Hate the stuff, and even more if Nick (White Flag Man) is near. He's far too happy when it snows.
Rest my case.
White flag man 14 Nov 2008, 20:51 Come on over Eddy, you know you want to. I might even learn some Belgian songs:coffee:
I'm there Nick, tomorrow early, I don't believe it.

White flag man 16 Nov 2008, 10:55 Last time I tried that i woke up in the middle of a field!
