German Hillclimb veteran Herbert Stenger had a horrific crash in 2007, see video above.

On Sunday he is going to drive the final round of the German RX Championship at Gründau with a Ford Focus T16 4x4, owned and usually driven by German RX regular Günther Wissel.

Stenger is no less than a 7 times FIA European Hillclimb champion and a 10 times German Hillclimb champ.

In the you tube clip it looks like a group C car going downhill. A horrible accident but it do not look’s like the hill climber cars we have in Scandinavia. What cars do they use?
Anyway, Good luck to all who have a go at our sport.

No, all Hillclimbs in my country and in the FIA European Championship are driven uphill and, different from Scandinavian Hillclimbs, solely on tarmac. AFAIK there are very few spots only where they go downhill for some distance. IIRC the very famous and long (12kms) "Schauinsland Hillclimb" (http://www.landkartenarchiv.de/rennstrecken_freiburgschauinsland.htm) near Freiburg in southern Germany had some downhill sections. However, over here and in Europe they do Hillclimbs with Group C, Formula 3, Group B (Lancia Delta S4, Ford RS200) and all kind of new and older Touring and GT cars etc.
