For those of you that were at the track day at lydden on sat you would have witnessed big Dave using all of the track to keep his mini under control.
We did think it very amuseing when one the marshalls came and congratulted him on a very brilliant and entertaining driving display. Showing great car control and skill.
But we all no better.

Robert, do the Minis, I presume you are talking real Minis not the BMWs, have their own series in the SE?

Robert, do the Minis, I presume you are talking real Minis not the BMWs, have their own series in the SE?

Yes we are proper minis, unfortunatley they dont have there own series yet but when you have a count up there are enough of us to have our own series. I hope that we are able to put on a special mini race at lydden next year at on of the DMN rounds.

Thought BD drove a blinder all day, although I heard him most of the time as I was working on my car in the paddock. Think he should definitely think about competing in Rallycross!

I'm just pleased that my Mini doesn't have a handbrake!:rotate:

Tris i think you have been like Gemma and had your fair share of bad luck, never mind there is next year. Who was 2nd?

Minicross424
20 Oct 2008, 18:32
well going in to the final round its Bisland 1st, Rawlings 2nd.
I think I have won the mini class in the intermarque saloons but to be honest there has'nt been no one in it so its a bit of a hollow win.
Next year will be better for us all.

Robert Morris
20 Oct 2008, 19:12

Cujo
20 Oct 2008, 23:11

I think you are thinking of James Guest in the Clubman Honda BD, that's in class 2. I think James Bisland might run a Midget. Tris, is that who you had some rubbing with last time out?

20 Oct 2008, 23:16

Hi again, quick question from my Dad to all you mini racers..... we currently only have a 10 litre fuel tank fitted and are a bit concerned it won't be enough for Saturday's 12 lap races, anyone know exactly how much their (1380) mini uses in a race?
Many thanks,
Chris and Richard

Rob,

My excuse will be - I stopped for a splash and dash. Will you be at Lydden on Sat. and if so I will return your Magnetronic unit then. Otherwise, will post on the Monday. As well as the Magnetronic failing, the Omex limiter was also damaged with an engine stopping fault. No wonder we couldn't diagnose the problem.

Robert Morris
22 Oct 2008, 12:46
RWW yes i will be at lydden sat so will see you then.
Yes Gemma and i have entered same race . Scarey father and daughter in same race i wonder which one of us will give way first, 2 purple minis out same time keep time keepers busy.

Chris – 10L for a 12 lap dry race )plus warm-up and red flag contingency) is a bit marginal. However the BBC Forecast for Saturday is now for heavy rain, so you should use less fuel in the wet

Gemma, have you been doing your rain dance again;)

If BBC says rain then I'd leave the rain tyres at home - I've given up with them!! Weather.com says cold but dry for Saturday...

... oh dear, just looked at the Met, better take the wets after all:

My poor car needs me to fit my new swifty unit but i wanted to keep for next year.
I reckon it must be Geralds turn to win. I will keep my fingures crossed for him.

Cujo
26 Oct 2008, 11:45
Rob

It was worth going yesterday just to see your ever widening grin – A great reminder about what club motorsport should be about:)

The opening laps of the SEMSEC Saloon and sports was great entertainment and amazingly (mostly) clean, given how frantic the action was.

Robert Morris
26 Oct 2008, 13:15
Steve yes i did enjoy myself very much, the only down side i am not fit and my shoulders are giving me jip today, and i missed Gemma mixing it.
Yes i think the only damage was Alan Rawlings when he got punted by that metro.
What a performance joe put up in her Fiesta. That john Taylor race i think there was 4 of us with half a second.

Big Dave
26 Oct 2008, 20:05
Rob regarding the shoulders its probably down to your appalling driving position

Big Dave
26 Oct 2008, 20:12

Morning all,
thanks again to Gavin, Rob, Gerald and Lee for help, bits and tools on Saturday. Next year we will sacrifice a driveshaft to the Lydden gods before we even enter our last event of the year in order to avoid a repeat of Saturday's disappointment.
A real shame as the Saloons race looked great and you really looked like you were enjoying yourself Rob! Looking forward to joining you out there next year,
Chris

Robert Morris
27 Oct 2008, 09:54
Chris i think we are very lucky with the dmn and semsec giving good value for money, motoring events. The only problem being with 3 races i wore out a set of front tyres.

rww
27 Oct 2008, 10:07
As the boy says, many thanks to all who helped out, but especially Gavin, who went beyond the call of duty when I (plonker !) removed the pot joint without first removing the rubber gaiter. Seriously Gavin, I hope the burns are healing well.
And Rob's grin when he came in after each race said it all. Well done Rob, great bit of driving.
Loss of Mini gears was contagious as I spoke to Tristram as he came in after the second race and that was his problem. But excellent result from the first race,Tristram, which will encourage you over the winter.
Roll on next season for us, but who is racing where over the next two week ends ?

Big Dave
27 Oct 2008, 10:46
Chris you wont have to sacrifice a drive shaft next year as you will have some RT Lane specials by then:)

Robert Morris
27 Oct 2008, 11:05
Well my face must have said it all i new when i started racing after 23 years lay off i intended to have fun but untill this weekend i had forgot how much there was to have,It started tuesday when Gemma took me around Brands in her car. Then practise chasing Joe in her fiesta. Best off all was going through chessons in a 4 wheel drift side by side with Alan rawlings and a rather wide metro. What trust Alan and i had in each other, thanks Alan would been nasty if we got it wrong.
The John Taylor handicap i cant belive how close that was at the finish, poor Joe being piped at the post after leading for so long.
The minis entered in Dmn for this weekend, Gemma, Bill, Gerald, Ken.Mike Edgal. and reserve Andrew Worseley.
The following weekend im out again, in class e, Bill in tin tops, I belive subject to gaining entry Gerald, Nick, and ken.
Tea brake over now, so back to work.

Simon Arron, the Motorsport News GP columnist was at Lydden on Sat. as an antidote to writing anything about the forthcoming showdown in Brazil.Titled, Getting back to Grass Roots,he hadn't been there for 23 years and likened the circuit to a timecapsule. A sprinting Lotus Cortina was pictured and he said ' the landscape is embellished with a sprinkling of lower case Minis, all in diverse states of suspension and body tune'

Good picture of Bill R leading the pack ahead of Gerald, and Rob gets a mention in the handicap write up. Just behind the Lotus Cortina, you can just make out the ghostly figure of a friendly giant who appears to be waving (his lucky) driveshaft whilst covered in a strange foaming liquid. Or am I imagining things ?

well said bill,

drinking large amounts and then driving the next morning is unacceptable whether your driving on the road or a race track, at best your risking being excluded from the meeting, damaging the championship, bringing motorsport into disrpute but without doubt YOU ARE risking peoples lives.

the organisers have eyes and ears and are prepared to take action against offenders, you have been warned!

Robert Morris
5 Nov 2008, 12:46
We are on this thread talking about minis.
But thanks for Graham's warning. Not needed!!!
I was one of many people that left the kentagon at closeing time on sat eve.
To put your minds at rest it is my view there was not one mini driver that was taking part in sundays race that would have been over the legal drink drive limit, by7.30am. People are known to have a laugh with out heavy drinking.

Big Dave
5 Nov 2008, 13:26
yep agree I with you all the way on the above post Rob, but you don't have to be pi!!ed to go and join in with a party do you!!!! and for anyone wondering I'm a spectator:nyah:

graham bahr
5 Nov 2008, 13:45
you dont have to have a skin full to have a good time.

its not just whether someone is over the limit or not, but if people appear to be or post lots of stuf on here about drinking sessions what does it look like if theres a stunt the following day?

personally i drink very little these days and as such i can be under the legal drink drive limit and unfit to drive, imho when talking about racing there should be ZERO alcohol or any other substances in the blood.

ps this isnt aimed at the mini camp in particular, there are other culprits in the paddock, who obviously arnt aware of how bad the whole drinking/driving issue looks.

i'll shut up now and you can go back to racing minis

Big Dave
5 Nov 2008, 13:54
I drink very little/none really only at race meetings but not huge amounts as i still have to drive the next day and my license is important to my living. but personally i think the last meeting was the most enjoyable DMN Ive ever been too, shame about the poor chaps trailer, but this can happen anywhere as my mate came back to his mini once after a shopping trip to find it on its roof and people playing spin the bottle with it.

Anyway back to The mighty mini are they all ready for the weekend

Our car is an ex minicrosser and we toyed with racing but decided against it after a test day at Blyton. Everyone we spoke to had too many stories of rolls, shunts and destruction in general so we decided it was not for us and went sprinting where there's (usually) no one to crash into!

Tris, I think you asked a question a few pages about rev counters. We moved to an SPA unit this year, combined with an Omex rev limiter:

http://www.spa-uk.co.uk/design/sequentialshiftlight.asp
http://www.omextechnology.co.uk/Revlimiters/revlimiterlcclubman.htm

I know there were some issues getting the two to work together and we've had problems with the Omex unit which has had to go back for repairs twice now so not sure it would be a solid recomendation from us but sure Dad could answer any questions you have on the setup.

Everyone we spoke to had too many stories of rolls, shunts and destruction in general Chris

Not to worried about that I'm a rally fan it just looks like fun and fairly cheap racing

Jules has a very rapid 1380cc Mini on 13" wheels and yes he is very quick. If he did a full season of DMN Iam sure he would be a front runner for the class E title.A very professional, comited driver and a nice bloke.
Its a shame the Xtreme mighty mini championship never took off I did a couple of rounds but I think that not many Mini drivers wanted to put their reputations/egos on the line a few years ago.

I will say now Dave that minicross is not cheap if you want to play at the sharp end.
I paid 4 k for my engine (not Bill) and that wasnt near the front.
And it soon wears when your well preped car gets mullered every meeting.
In the end i got so annoyed with certain drivers that i put "no more mr nice guy" accross the front of my mini and got pay back!
You ask Scott Lawson why he left, you will get simular story.
