westfieldbend 27 Oct 2008, 09:30 Production Saloon/S1:
a) how lotus elises saloons?
b) how are some of those cars production
c) why are the grids so poor
Britcar:
a) Why does Mr tucker talk it up so much
b) Is the only race they can get decent grids the 24 hours?
I say this as the two PS1 races at brands hatch at the weekend had pretty poor grids - i think we were down to 10 in the second race, and they were pretty split up even before the start! cant keep up with safety car?
Thoughts?
1. Firstly, it was MSVR that called it Production Saloons. The EERC Classification is Production S1, which encompasses things like Lotus Elises, Toyota MR2's, and similar cars.
2. Britcar is based on a power to weight ratio formula. Production S1 would include saloons up to around 300bhp, which allows you to modifiy your production based car.
As it is NOT Production Saloons, your question should therefore be answered.
3. Grids are always low-ish at this time of year. Many teams eat up their budgets doing the 24hrs, and with the global recession (heard of that?), quite a few are sitting on what money they have left so they can go racing next year.
4. Mr Tucker talks it up - it's called Marketing. Something that is missing in motorsport in general. If other series/clubs marketed what they do to the public, then perhaps more people would go and watch / get involved.
5. Britcar grids are not too bad, the 24hr wasn't as good this year as before, but refer to 3. You know, lack of money in the world, companies going bust, £ vs $ etc...
I think that should answer it.
westfieldbend 27 Oct 2008, 10:07 I was once told by mr tucker (this year or last year) That the britcar organisation grows by 320% every year, which cannot be the case... there was a point when EERC had enogth competitors to run there own meetings - often on the brands hatch grand prix circuit. How can it have improved when they have also lost 2 series as well - britsport and goldarts(never really started though...)
So what does the S1 stand for??
Mod Note; Please be careful with your choice of words on a public forum.
Steve917 27 Oct 2008, 13:10 I think Mr Tucker has a little fantasy world of how he would like things to be but in reality they are some what different. Whilst I was attending the Britcar meeting at Snetterton back in August Mr Tucker came on the PA and said that “ 60 entries were fully paid up for the 24hrs with a further 25 entries with deposits paid and the final payments expected shortly ” how many at the actual event ? 51 I think, someway short of the figures being quoted just a month earlier !
Also on the same address at Snetterton he said of the Top Gear entry “ they are preparing a car so they will be on the grid “ if this is “ Marketing ” then the paying public will only fall this once or twice, you can’t say these things and fail to deliver.
pdd144c 27 Oct 2008, 19:49 Lots of people pulled out of the 24hr race with a few weeks left...
tail out 27 Oct 2008, 20:10 I think that if you have lots of funds Britcar is good to race in but as a spectator sport it is boring as hell.

Anyone know if there is an entrylist online (reliable or otherwise ;) ) for the night race at Brands in a couple of weeks?
westfieldbend 4 Nov 2008, 23:01 i can have an estimate that the grid we will get will be:
the quoted figure on website minus 2 best entry's plus 10 production S1's divided by 2. no entry list yet though...
Some recent testers at Brands over the last fortnight have included.... The McInerneys Mosler, the Mustill/Vergers/Bennett V8 Star, Richard Chamberlains Porsche "935", James Kaye in the works RalliArt Evo X Mitsubishi, Lawson/Wilds BMW and Witt Gamskis Ferrari. Also seen a Chad Porsche, a British GT M-Tech Ferrari, and Patrick Huismans Redline Porsche from this years Porsche Supercup (in new owners hands)..... Oh, and a Jim Geddie "Britcar 2009" badged Porsche 996/997 RSR (not sufficiently teched-up on Porsches to know what specific model it was, but definately seemed to be an RSR derivative).
In other words, theres been a decent amount of GT interest in testing lately, so hopefully (I do tend to recall thinking this in previous years though!!) there will be a decent turn-out of cars this year.
With Doningtons Night event having been cancelled, hopefully that will serve to boost entries as well.
I guess it's not so important what's there as you won't be able to see them anyway ;) I was thinking of popping along if the weather's ok to get some "light trail" photos.
westfieldbend 5 Nov 2008, 22:51 are you sure those cars arnt for GT cup this weekend?
Oops... Bit late replying to that!! Well, based on the cars out yesterday and Saturday I reckon "No".
1st version of the garage list now available.... (provided you have Excel on your PC).....
http://www.britcar24hr.co.uk/cms/e107_files/afm/Garage%20List-%20Issue%201.xls
So, a promising entry. However, applying pessimism.....
Scratch the "interesting" Barwell entries, scratch all the TBAs including the "interesting" Continental (??) entries, that should bring the entry down to about 20!!
Apologies for my sarcasm....
Because, in all fairness to all parties concerned, we will surely get those full 30 cars. We should do... they have been allocated garages after all, less than a week before the event, so they MUST SURELY be 99% bullet-proof SURE to show-up, fully-paid up entries. Un-doubtedly.
12, 5, 46 (I think), 35, 55, 21 (?) and 4 have tested recently. Gilham/Walewska tried at PS1 a few weeks ago but suffered engine (?) maladies, and 27, 33, 86 have all raced recently at Brands.
Ermm.... what am I doing !!??? I feel as if I`m trying to justfiy the credibility of the entry list !!! How silly of me !!!
Ps - 86 entered twice I now see, that could guarantee our first deletion !!
Still, looking forward to it.... it is the last meeting of the year. And hey, it`s gonna be dark, so if we are short of a few we won`t really notice !!!!
BertMk2 10 Nov 2008, 15:17 Thanks for that  Like you say - why am I bothered about an entry list when I won't be able to see what they are anyway ;) As long as the weather is half sensible (dry) and there is a good sized grid I'll be happy.
A little googling on the Ordonez/Scholmer entry gives this......
http://www.nissan-motorsports.com/ENN/PRESS/2008/080909_2.html
Interesting indeed (I think!! - maybe its just me being a little sad!?!?). Hopefully not one to be scratched. 2 computer-gamers in a works assisted Nissan 350Z!!
kelvin88 10 Nov 2008, 22:53 i should be in the Chimp Tune garage if anyone wants to drop by and say hello!:)
MSVR now have their entry lists up for Saturdays Into the Night Race....
http://www.msvracing.co.uk/media/64252/entry%20lists.pdf
Down to 28 cars. The second "Millard" entry, and the fourth TopCats entry vanish. That said, quite probably the 4th TopCats entry never actually WAS an entry, just a garage allocated to the team.
Aha... EERC now have a 4th revision of the Garage List, which I presume supercedes everything else.....
And...
Guess what??! Down to 25 cars.....
http://www.britcar24hr.co.uk/cms/e107_files/afm/Garage%20List-%20Issue%204.xls
Lost from the MSVR list is the Michael Millard ProSport, Jim Geddie Porsche and Stockley/Wilshire Civic.
Still some good cars on that list. Hopefully Barwell will bring that 007 Aston - looks an immaculately prepared car from their website.
BertMk2 14 Nov 2008, 10:38 Still looks worth a look if the weather is ok - I don't think I'll bother if it's hacking down. As you say - hope that Aston is there.
Well, 19 of the 25 entries tested today.
3 were no shows. 3 were present at the circuit but did not test.
No shows were Day/Shanley, Ordonez/Schlomer and Rata.
Present but not testing were Kevin Clarke BMW, Angus Dawe BMW, and the McInerney Mosler.
However....
2 big incidents.
The Chamberlain Chimp Tune Porsche 935 Rep is sadly out for the rest of the weekend after a heavy shunt in backwards at the Med Centre. I was told that a Lotus Elise is being sought for the Race tomorrow as a repalcement car.
The 007 Aston was shunted heavily in the same place (Drayson). Wiped the whole right hand side out. Spoke to a Barwell mechanic who said it was mainly cosmetic and that the car would be out tomorrow.
BertMk2 15 Nov 2008, 08:31 That's not good :( the 935 was one of the cars I wanted to see (it usually flames nicely and I was looking forward to that in the dark). Hope the Aston is repaired too.
jonbryant 15 Nov 2008, 20:56 That was actually quite enjoyable!
Aston was back out and looking & sounding great. Can't tell you who won as i went to the Kentagon :)
kelvin88 15 Nov 2008, 22:34 That's not good :( the 935 was one of the cars I wanted to see (it usually flames nicely and I was looking forward to that in the dark). Hope the Aston is repaired too.
There is a few bits in the bin around the back of garage 12 if you still want to see it!
jonbryant 15 Nov 2008, 22:37 I really wanted to see the Lola B2K that was out in the Sports series. Shame he lasted til Druids on lap 1 before binning it... Ouch.
Would have been nice to see a full on Le Mans LMP2 car round Brands.
That was actually quite enjoyable!
Heretic!
But I stayed as well and it wasn't too bad at all.
I really wanted to see the Lola B2K that was out in the Sports series.
If you did the last Open Sports Race at Brands (FPA Autumn Trophy weekend??) then you will already have seen it. A predominantly white car, with some red and white Union Flag type detail.
The car Mike Roberts was running at the weekend was actually an MG-Lola EX-257. Chassis number 4 to be precise !! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG-Lola_EX257
Autocon ran the car in the ALMS series........
http://www.autoconmotorsports.com/ (lots of pictures of the fairly unusual Jean Richard livery in the gallery section).
Indeed a shame it didn`t even manage more than 2 corners. Though I don`t think you would have seen it raced like you would have seen Sinclair, Hogg or Jonathan Wright racing their slightly less exotic machines!!
jonbryant 16 Nov 2008, 12:08 Geek
;)
I know some!! But this time it was google.
jonbryant 16 Nov 2008, 12:17 Gorgeous looking thing though. Such a shame that it didn't get to play properly. Not seen it before.
