Eric Falce 7 Nov 2008, 23:02 Well,I dont believe that no one has started this thread yet, tried getting Tim to do the race but he would have an unfair advantage over the other contestants.:p
Who else is challenging the reigning Victor Eric.
jonbryant 7 Nov 2008, 23:19 Photos will be taken by... well... me!
TIMELORD 7 Nov 2008, 23:31 What is this 'Victor Meldrew' race? All I've been able to get from Googling is this from the Motors TV forum:
Points will be scored as follows
The difference between the drivers best and average lap time subtracted from 3
will multiplied by :
Half the drivers age Age (May be checked at signing on)
Multiplied by
Half the drivers weight in kilos (Scales will be available in Parce ferme qualifying)
The resulting figure will be added to
Length of marriage (Certificate may be required) Multiple cerrtificates will be accepted.
Mileage driven to the event from registered home address (Subject to equivalence factor.TBA)
Foreign based competitors will have their distance added in kilometres.
Weight of head in Kilos (See below for head weighing procedure)
The total thus far will attract additional points as shown below
10 points for being accepted of the female gender. (No last minute claims or mutilation will be endorsed.)
10 points for an open wound
10 points for any visible evidence or surgical stiches (per stitch)
5 points for having a sibling in the same event
2 Points for demonstrable groin pain
2 Points for visible signs of bewilderment
1 point for every millimetre of lens depth of spectacles worn whilst reading the results sheet.
1 point for each whole point of lens correction (Prescription must be available for inspection)

-2 points for moaning
-1 point for creaking or groaning whilst getting in or out of car.
-1 point for any visible body piercing (Females excepted)
-1 point for every visible tattoo
-1 for dribbling below the neck
Is this really how it works? Sounds like fun if it is!
Eric Falce 7 Nov 2008, 23:43 It works exactly like that and is pure fun, plus I have a secret weapon induced by medication, below the waist.
Also there is a supporting race, something about racing into the night or some such rubbish.
GORDON STREETER 8 Nov 2008, 01:16 I'm much too young to enter :runaway:
Also do you have to wear a support for the other races !
Robert Morris 8 Nov 2008, 10:33 i thought there was tyre restriction as well?
falcemob 8 Nov 2008, 14:52 Yes, you are restricted to one on each corner.
Is this really how it works? Sounds like fun if it is!
Fun, fun? How can a bunch of grumpy racing drivers have fun? Besides, we poor marshals have to be there far too early because they want to race.
Don't they know how old we are? I even have to come all the way from Belgium for that. I can't believe it.
Now Eric Victor Falce has to defend his title, will he do it?
:old:
(On a serious note, yes it is fun as it started as a joke and went very well last year. Shame I missed it as I had other things going on that day. But the feedback the next day was very positive. Already looking forward to it.)
andypipe 8 Nov 2008, 21:18 Whats the minimum entry age. Might have to enter
Eric Falce 8 Nov 2008, 21:36 Dont worry, you qualify, well withing the age limit and grumpiness.
I will supply the beer and as a anglo italian the Gancia for the winners.
Victor Meldrew 8 Nov 2008, 22:41 :bmood: Who is doing the Victor Meldrew?
Those of a suitably grumpy disposition stand a good chance
TIMELORD 9 Nov 2008, 21:43 A couple of questions on the Victor Meldrew:
Who organises it? Can I find the regs anywhere on the internet?
What entries have been received so far?
How will it work? How will the grids be set? I see that there are two qualifying sessions and three 15 minute races on the timetable.
Couple of answers:
I organise it on behalf of the Victor Meldrew Memorial Home for the Bewildered.
No regs on the net, but I can mail you a set if you pm me your email address.
48 entries recieved thus far, but I'll take a couple more on a no race, no pay basis if anyone is grumpy enough.
It'll work fine thanks. Grid set by previous lap times.
Each entry gets 1 practice session and 2 races, both of which will be handicapped.
I'll post the entry list here tomorrow.

Is'nt that beaking the never doing britcar again rule:D
jonbryant 12 Nov 2008, 00:30 I'm breaking that rule too... Might not stay til the end tho ;)
The excitement will be over by 3.30 :)
Couple of late entries you'll know Jon. I'll post tomorrow.
Three races of 32 cars each.
I'm not breaking that rule. I'm gone by the time they start. Only there for the VM.

I dont believe that you can be so considerate for other people, the things us racers do for you marshals to keep you happy, its only right that you should stand out and get burnt to a cinder in the summer and have your n#ts frozen in the winter, and a good soaking to boot, all for a few doughnuts,I just dont believe it.Did you get any doughnuts sunday Eddy.;)
How many marshal posts are there at Brands.
The things I do for (other) grumpy old men. :)

mini1400 12 Nov 2008, 14:14 How many marshal posts are there at Brands.
15 plus pits, startline and assembly....
Eric Falce 12 Nov 2008, 19:15 Ok,just so I know how many doughnuts to bring.
Does sneaky, pre-event practice accumulate minus points?? As a local-ish person to Brands, I noted number 33 doing just that at todays Trackday !!! (Plus another un-marked black Toyo BMW).
Good spot Elio :)
Official report sent to the handicapper which will result in a lower lap time and withdrawing of Horlicks privileges from 33.
The unmarked car was a Victor stealthmobile on undercover ops.
At the risk of upsetting at least 2 members of the PBMW community (!!), and risking getting a black eye from either, the other driver may have been number 4.
Reason,... I`m guessing number 4 may be a "Victoria" rather than a Victor, and I`ve just been browsing some pics from today and the driver looks either quite feminine, and/or quite young. They were receiving a fair bit of tuition from one of the Brands instructors as well.
Apologies to BOTH drivers if I have made an error of judgement !!!!!!!!
So John, you running a VMW then this Saturday? ;)
Besides, you'd be amazed the things I do for other grumpy men.
Even this Saturday morning, I will drag myself out of bed at 3 in the morning, drive allllllll the way to the UK to see cars with loads of grumpy men running in circles (so to speak) and drive home again to drag myself into bed again.
I don't believe it that I will actually do this.
Eric, didn't get any donuts. They probably ate them all at Racecontrol and post 25 and 2. The sods!
Eric Falce 12 Nov 2008, 22:04 Eddy, will try and sort that problem out for saturday,a little bribery will not amiss, who is arranging the handicap.;)
Good work Elio,
Number 4 was indeed a Victoria. Saturday will be Sian's first race I believe.
Are you going to be at Brands on Saturday? If so I have a spare balaclava you are welcome to borrow :)
No 33 was probably just driving to his home and took a short cut.
Eddy very drole :) though its listed as a VM Special in the programme :)
We do appreciate all the effort you are making. I shall be writing to the Queen to see if she will grant you an honorary Knighthood for services to the aged and infirm.
Eric, the handicapper is a skinny bloke who eats nothing but seeds and lettuce. I've already sent him a box of trill and a cuttlefish.
How is it run John? 3 separate races or sort of 2 heats and a final?
3 distinct races Eddy.
48 drivers into 3 groups of 16 then A v B, B v C, A v C
At least that's the plan today.
Continuing on the theme of "shopping" the "cheats".....
A certain Victor number 31 was spotted today out with the Ford trackday guys and gals. Not sure if he was entered in the "Performance Ford Magazine" section, or the "Retro Ford Magazine" section though!!
Disgraceful.
Bodysnatcher 13 Nov 2008, 16:06 You're becoming a bit of a Victor yourself, Elio..
Neighbourhood watch, twitchy curtains, anonymous reports to the parish mag and all that.
However, Victor 31 - disgraceful behaviour!
I shall prewrite a report about your disgraceful use of the old track at paddock, surely somebody with some moral ffibre in race control will act on it!
falcemob 13 Nov 2008, 16:52 Oi you lot, don't forget that Victor 31 is my dear old uncle and if you lot start casting nasty nasturtians about him I may have no alternative other than to start wielding the bat around here. :admin:
You're becoming a bit of a Victor yourself, Elio..
Ah, you just wait for Saturday morning and all them bloomin` un-photogenic, boxy BMWs !!!
There were some pretty hot Fords down at Brands this morning. I wonder whether Victor F was trying to source an even trustier steed to blow all the other Victors away on Saturday?!
Eric Falce 13 Nov 2008, 17:51 Who me!
jonbryant 13 Nov 2008, 17:51 I meant to come along today. But only looked at the date just gone lunchtime. Bother.
Eric Falce 13 Nov 2008, 18:21 There was some realy nice machinery there, did drool over one or two.
Beyond the call of duty Elio, You shall be mentioned in depatches.
Do drop by on Saturday for a Horlicks and Werthers.
My other undercover agent reported a few old dogs among the nice Fords on track.
And Eric.... Good try but drooling doesn't get you points, just dribbling :)
TIMELORD 13 Nov 2008, 22:17 How will the drivers be allocated into the groups, A,B and C? Will this depend on practice times?
Also, I've just noticed that, on the MSVR website Entry List, cars 4 (Sian Morris), 62 (Andy Holley) and 121 (Neville Knight) appear in both Qualifying Session groups.
I don't believe it! All these questions.
They are in both due to being either new to their cars, first time racers, returning after a long layoff or because they have displayed such an ability to moan that we are better off with them cocooned in ther cars rather than grumbling around the paddock. There should be another in this elite group - just can't get the staff these days, Lord knows why with 1.8 million on the streets, I blame the government, or perhaps it's the weather, more likely the French.
Eric Falce 14 Nov 2008, 09:13 The French, thats it,they worked out the handicap last year, made it so all those at the rear of the grid actualy won, this is not fair,so do I soak my dentures in an extra strong solution to get that Tony Curtis grin,I dont think so.:yuk:
Who is this bodysnatcher bloke, spying and making trouble, with a name like that will have to introduce him to my wife!
Bodysnatcher 14 Nov 2008, 11:00 Who is this bodysnatcher bloke, spying and making trouble, with a name like that will have to introduce him to my wife!
Dear Victor Eric
give you tuppence for the wife....unless you've got a post 58 model, they can be worth a bit more in the wrong hands.e sound right?
yrs, Victor Bodysnatcher (bodyshop & parts dept (human), Mon-Fri, gravel trap 4a Saturday)
PS
Victor Elio = spy
Victor Bodysnatcher = snitch to CoC
Blimmin Drivers!, always makin a mess of my gravel trap..and those that can't see yellow, hangings too good for them... mutter mutter ... crucifixion, now theres something the romans got right...
Robert Morris 14 Nov 2008, 17:50 Will some one post the results on here so we can have a look in detail.
Happy racing and enjoy.:)
Robert Morris 14 Nov 2008, 20:26 No! Ho dont be horrible:)
retro_msport 14 Nov 2008, 20:38 I was at Brands and I didnt see Eric all afternoon ... ;)
I wasn't horrible, just a grumpy sod as usual.
(but I bet you are going to miss something tomorrow)
Victor Meldrew 15 Nov 2008, 09:13 Oi you lot, don't forget that Victor 31 is my dear old uncle and if you lot start casting nasty nasturtians about him I may have no alternative other than to start wielding the bat around here. :admin:
You do that with aplomb :rotate:
Victor Meldrew 15 Nov 2008, 09:15 I don't believe it! Still got an asbo! What is this Stalag Ten Tenths or something!
falcemob 15 Nov 2008, 13:37 Why aren't you down here then instead of moaning about asbos?
Heat 1
1 10 Victor Kneebone
2 100 Victor Wilcox
3 126 Victor Thomas
Heat 2
Victor Falce laid an oil slick from Graham Hill to Clearways...........I don't believe it.
Naughty Victor Falce. I hope there isn't too much damage?
GORDON STREETER 15 Nov 2008, 16:44 It was a devious plan to put all the others out of the race . As it was, he was the only one who spun out . I DO BELIEVE IT !!!!!
Eric Falce 15 Nov 2008, 19:27 And some miserable bugger gave me two points on my licience just caus I overtook on a yellow, how the hell do they expect one to win if you cant have a little cheating here and there.
Plan B did not work well, only got the oil slick for a quarter of the track before I spun out.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NEW VICTOR ,whoever he or she is,have a good one.
falcemob 15 Nov 2008, 19:31 Yes but where's the pound you owe me, I won the bet that you would do your first spin on lap 5. :p
Nick-Patrick 15 Nov 2008, 20:54 Why in the third race of VM Trophy started a bit less vehicles than in race 1 and 2, although the times of start and finish are as per program?
falcemob 15 Nov 2008, 21:02 Natural wastage maybe?
jonbryant 15 Nov 2008, 21:08 I know a fair few had fallen by the side of the road. They'd probably hurt their hip or needed their bag changing... ;)
Nick-Patrick 15 Nov 2008, 21:10 No accidents I hope...That's I want to know, thank you all!
jonbryant 15 Nov 2008, 21:25 Nope the Victors all behaved themselves really. Couple of moments at Paddock in qually...
So who is the new Victor?
jonbryant 15 Nov 2008, 22:15 Roger Kneebone won 2 races but don't know whether that counts overall...
Eric Falce 15 Nov 2008, 22:20 Roger Kneebone won 2 races but don't know whether that counts overall...
Nope.
Eric Falce 15 Nov 2008, 22:23 He needs a rabbit foot,a couple of spins,a hernia,a few stitches and at least a dribble from the mouth!
jonbryant 15 Nov 2008, 22:24 He needs a rabbit foot,a couple of spins,a hernia,a few stitches and at least a dribble from the mouth!
You can't win it twice Eric!
kelvin88 15 Nov 2008, 22:31 Brilliant racing! No idea who won it though:S
jonbryant 15 Nov 2008, 22:34 TSL Timing doesn't help obviously. Suppose we wait for Victor Willcocks to get home!
kelvin88 15 Nov 2008, 22:37 I don't BELEIVE it!!
Eric Falce 15 Nov 2008, 22:37 Brilliant racing! No idea who won it though:S
That,in my opinion is the very thing that makes it such a great race. The rules change from race to race so no one has an advantage, just sorry I did'nt finish, still, theres always next year I hope.:)
jonbryant 15 Nov 2008, 22:40 Agreed Eric. First time I've seen it and I can see why Eddy travelled over.
And thankyou for the Werthers Original :)
kelvin88 15 Nov 2008, 22:47 I bet he gets points for giving those out...;)
Rod Birley 15 Nov 2008, 23:41 The winner of this year's Victor Meldrew trophy is .....wait for it you lot.......
Nigel Brittain driving a BMW 318, car no.97, second goes to Richard Ibrahim (Alfa Romeo) and third to Nick Amey. Well done to everyone. Must say sorry to Stacy for getting to the microphone before him. I thought we were going to do a joint comedy (commentating) act!!!
Rod Birley 15 Nov 2008, 23:44 Good effort by "young" Danny Cassar, who finished a fine fourth in the first race, cheered on by Chappell's chargers!!!
Bryan Degerlund 16 Nov 2008, 00:24 Thanks also for the doughnuts -- a very welcome gesture :twiglets: not a doughnut but the closest I could find.
GORDON STREETER 16 Nov 2008, 00:36 Its a good job I helped you empty your colostomy bag in the collection area Eric, otherwise you might not have lasted as long as you did in the race.
And Rod, you should go on the stage ! I'll supply the broom

Disgrace, sacrilige!!
Victor Falce put loads of oil on my post, had the guts to spin onto Mr. Palmer grass (damaging it!) and run off without cleaning up. I don't believe it!
What do you racing drivers think? That we marshals are there to clean up after you?
When I put a formal complaint to Victor Wilcocks he asked me if I was sure Victor Falce did lay oil down and not something else the elderly lose.
Didn't know what he meant, so I pi**ed off.
On a very serious note (if you ever can with this lot) 3 great races, lots of fun and some very well driven cars and very clean racing.
Eric, you held that spinning car at speed very well for a moment with all the oil coming out.
Good to see that many familiar faces there. Great event, well done to John and all involved.
And I did stay for Britcar as well, isn't that something?
Eric Falce 16 Nov 2008, 11:09 I wish to lodge an appeal against the 2 penalty points I have recieved for overtaking on a yellow(Eddy take note). In my book the doughnut alone should make so that those people in orange should make themselves more visable by running across the track and waving the flag from a sensible position on the inside approach to Druids, thereby giving us Victors a chance to see them,or even better to wave there flags the other side after I had completed my manouver(you may add these point to my next year score John),I just dont believe it,plus that miserable bugger clerk of the course for not praising me for getting botton straight cleaned,no truth in the rumour it wasnt oil.
Thank Tim and Jerry for helping me out of the toilet and into the right car, also Gordon for pluging my hole (still went up Surtees backwards) and a big sorry to all my fans, well, my grandaughters Annie and Tashie at least for deciding to go rallying on the last lap, if only JP had made that rumble strip without the rumbles,I am sure I would have finished that lap!
And a big congratulations to Nigel,Richard and Nick, make the most of it,I want my mantle back plus next year the opposition is going to be realy strong with Gordon and Tim.
Thanks to John ,the marshals and Brands for a realy great show, everyone I spoke to loved it so maybe there is a formula there somwhere! I just dont believe it.
snowen250 16 Nov 2008, 11:37 I really enjoyed all 3 Victor races yesterday! Racing was great, had little to no idea who was winning, but it was great!
Mr Falces first lap power slide round druids was especially spectacular!
Great racing by all
Simon
Just arrived home after a dreadful journey in the Meldrew Pace car. Poor Victor himself was too exhausted to travel home on it after his drag strip demonstration up the pit straight.
I had to stop 15 times to recharge a battery that seems to have lost the will to live. I'm feeling much the same this morning.
Thank you all Victors for supporting the VM Trophy, I haven't heard so much moaning since George Bush won Florida. Excellent stuff.
Thanks to all you marshals for brilliant flagging in what were busy races. Maybe next time you could get MSV to provide flags the size of bedsheets so that some of our more ancient Victors can see them?
We particularly appreciated the Groin Check in the pit lane - the only intimate physical contact that many of us have had since last year.
Thanks also to assembly for dealing with the vagaries of the handicapping system.
I don't believe it! The Meldrewers had contributed a bag or two of Werthers to each marshal post and I only remembered when the Britcars were in full flow. My memory isn't what it use to be I'm afraid, but Mildred has taken charge of them and will use them at the next opportunity.
I guess full results will be on TSL, but for now
Race1
1st Victor Kneebone (First time at Brands and 4th race in this car)
2nd Victor Willcocks
3rd Victor Thomas
4th Victor Cassar (the younger)
Race 2
1st Victor Sandom (making a racing return in a hired car after a 10 year break)
2nd Victor Thomas (There will be an VMFIA enquiry)
3rd Victor Adams (in his first race)
4th Victor Brittain (subsequently the 2008 Victor Meldrew Victor)
Race 3
1st Victor Kneebone (He's obvioulsy getting the hang of it)
2nd Victor Ibrahim (Great result and 2nd overall in the VM Trophy, by dint of spectacular grumbling)
3rd Victoria Fisher (Bringing wimmins lib into the Meldrew, so that we now avoid EU sanctions)
4th Victor Willcocks (I hear the cries of fix, but shall ignore them)
As Posted above
2009 Victor Victor is Nigel Brittain (By dint of consistency, weight and age)
Well done Victor Nigel
Victor Meldrew 16 Nov 2008, 11:59 Congrats to all Victors for putting on such a great show. The racing all through the field in all 3 races was definitely the best of the day.
And congrats to the 2008 Medrew Trophy winner, Nigel Brittain.
Have to say that my drag all the way down the pit straight in the Meldrew pace car enduring all the whistles and abuse from the Britcar boys made the whole day seem worthwhile :rotate:
[quote=Eddy V]Disgrace, sacrilige!!
Victor Falce put loads of oil on my post, had the guts to spin onto Mr. Palmer grass (damaging it!) and run off without cleaning up. I don't believe it! /quote]
the best bit Eddy was the marshall who greeted Victor Falce as he came to a standstill aked "did you lose some oil " VF's reply " I didn't do it" he really has reverted to a 3 year old
Neil Adams 16 Nov 2008, 16:34 Also, I've just noticed that, on the MSVR website Entry List, cars 4 (Sian Morris), 62 (Andy Holley) and 121 (Neville Knight) appear in both Qualifying Session groups.
They are in both due to being either new to their cars, first time racers, returning after a long layoff or because they have displayed such an ability to moan that we are better off with them cocooned in their cars rather than grumbling around the paddock. There should be another in this elite group, just can't get the staff these days
lol, i reckon that was me who should have been in that elite group, i dont believe it! the day went very well regardless though! 1st race for me and the car.
i would have been 2nd in race 1 if it wasnt for mr falces oil slick trick, made things a bit hairy! Did the last lap with a screen obliterated with oil.
well chuffed with how the day went, i would have been happy just to have seen my name on a mst results sheet! thanks to all the marshals and organisers of the event, great fun!
Agree with that Ken, even his reply when told he should follow the tow car: do I really have to?
To be honest, I'm puzzled I can remember this since yesterday. :?
Now here is an idea: why don't we put marshals in the car of some Victors with a set of flags, to be waved inside the car when something goes wrong. Surely they must see that?

Excuse No. 873 page 89 of Drivers book of excuses and get outs.
Bryan Degerlund 17 Nov 2008, 01:39 We particularly appreciated the Groin Check in the pit lane - the only intimate physical contact that many of us have had since last year.
Unfortunately, after the first session, Beverley had to go and have a lie-down, so session two were landed with Darryl and myself ( a genuine VM) -- no wonder there were no takers!!
So pleased I was is session one then Bryan. Thanks Beverley;)
Rod Birley 17 Nov 2008, 13:14 Well done in organising this event John. It brings a great deal of enjoyment to the older folks, most of whom did not have a clue what was going on!!! (LOL).
P.S some of whom were in the commentary box.
jonbryant 17 Nov 2008, 15:00 Pictures! http://www.snappyracers.com/album/Brands151108/

Busy boy Jon:)

Neil Adams 17 Nov 2008, 18:16 What is this 'Victor Meldrew' race? All I've been able to get from Googling is this from the Motors TV forum:
