Anyone out there race and/or collect 1/32 scale slot cars, Scalextric etc.

I have about 31 cars now including varius touring cars, sportscars F1 cars and rally cars, I also have some hand built cars that started out as static kits.

There's a fair few of us Scalextric fans on here. My prized car is my Marc Gene M02. :)

My favorites at the moment would be my SCX Toyota Celica GT4 ST-165 which is actually 4wd like the real thing, my Scalex Allan Moffat ANZ Ford Sierra RS500 and my Fly Le Mans 2000 Panoz LMP-1. I am currently waiting on the Scalex DAMS Motorola Cadillac.

Excellent Adrian,

True class.

Years ago as a boy I used to go to a track at Hornesby. I always bought Mustang and GTHO bodies painted in Moffat colours before graduating to Group 20 plastic wings.

I also have a Scalex BMW super touring car painted as the Paul Morris Diet Coke car from `95. Will post a pic soon.

i have nine cars, my current fav is a 1998 Stewart Ford, made by Ninco. ive placed a bid on ebay for a lot of track, so maybe ill be able to do a more complex track than a figure of eight.

I've got a number of slot cars from Fly - they are absolutely stunning (see www.mre.co.uk) for their lists. These cars do what the word says "fly".

I've got a fair few, they include:

- Dick Johnson Shell Ford Sierra #17
- Peter Brock Mobil Ford Sierra #05
- IMSA Audi Quattro #44
- Mazda 787B Sportscar (Le Mans winner 1991)
- Alitalia Fiat Arbarth 131 rally car
- BMW M1
- Subaru Imprezza (Colin McRae Swedish rally 1996)
- 1995 Volvo 850 Super Tourer (Rickard Rydell BTCC)
- Frank Biela 1996 BTCC Audi A4
- Brad Jones 1997 ASTC Audi A4
-plus quite a few others, i'll have to take a look.

Currently putting a track together, thinking about Oran Park or the Sandown GP circuit, something that gives you no advantage if you are in one lane or another.

The 1966 Le Mans winning Ford MkII by Scalextric is the prettiest car Scalextric ever made and it "flies" too. I'm not too pleased about those yellow headlights though. But the car looks very good. But still I'll choose my Top Slot Toyota Gt-One TS020 over any other slot car. (I'm still waiting for the guys at Top Slot to release the factory Courage and ofcourse the Pescarolo Courage from this years Le Mans)
Has anyone seen the Ferrari P4's by Racer at MRE site ? 2003 is going to be an expensive year. :)

I've got some of my dad's old Scalextric things too.
A figure-eight track with the Le Mans start and some buildings. Witht the track came the 1961 Ferrari and Lotus and In 1963 or 1964 my father and his brother bought the Ferrari 250GT and the Aston Martin DB4GT (with lights). The amazing thing is that all of these things still work, quite amazing for being 40 years old. I'm still looking for some replacement parts though (underpan of the lotus, rear axles for the Ferrari 250GT and Aston Martin). When it took the cars to the local hobby shop to see if they could still get those ols spares from the Scalextric factory, the guys eyes almost fell out of their sockets.
I'm trying to find and buy some even older Scalex cars, I'm especially hoping to find the Lister Jaguar. If anyone has got one for sale (or knows where I could get one) please let me know (the Aston Martin DBR, Jaguar D-type or Porsche would be welcome too).

I am thinking about building bathurst but don't know how many track pieces you need. I think it is around the 170 mark or something like that

Bathurst in Scalextric form......... F**kin h*ll!

that would have to be massive. Get the Papermache ready to build those dips and crests.

If you're thinking about building it in 1/32 scale, don't forget to think about the space you'll need. Real circuits are built in immense (more or less open) spaces (and you'll need such a space in 1/32). The Conrod Straight is almost 2km in length and in 1/32 scale this is about 62 metres.
My advice would be to find a smaller scale that fits the space you have and then use a track planner to work out the layout and you'll automatically see what and how many parts you need.

I've been buying slotcars for the last 7 years reasonably regularly, and recently deceided that it was time to catalogue them. It's only in hand written form at the moment but the total was a frightening 191 cars. All of them recent cars as well i.e. made in the last 7 years. Hope the missus doesn't read this or I am dead.;)

Some of the recent cars from Scalextric are excellent, especially the GT40's and the 2 new MG Lola's.
Also recently bought a Lola T-260 which actually has a differential in the back, don't know what difference it makes as I haven't run the car yet.

The only 'old' scalextric stuff I have is track, including the Le Mans start and the Goodwood chicane.

thanks evil but where can i find out where to get a track planner from?

M Coupe
5 Jan 2003, 11:32
You can get a track planning software at THIS SITE. (http://www.slotrace.com/)
It does cost $US39 though.

After posting just found a free planner, don't know how good it is but I'm about to download it.

Find it HERE (http://l-kornstaedt.chez.tiscali.fr/scalex/english.html)

I also have that free one, and I think it works rather good. I used it to try and get a somewhat realistic Spa-Francorchamps track, and it worked out quite well. After my exams I'm going to try a better Le Mans track, 'cause I don't really like the one they give as example.

M Coupe, I must admit the Vanquish Lola with the differential looks great, but I've heard some disturbing news about its durability. Because of a design error the crown wheel will wear off very fast.
The Dutch importer of Vanquish MG has really commited himself to the product and has offered a solution here:
http://www.quicktrends.com/slotcars/solution_to_the_problem.htm
I suggest you read it before you start racing away with the car.

Thanks for that info, might have to take a closer look inside tonight.

On the subject of Le Mans, I found a site about HO track (for Tomy cars) where they run a 24 hour race on a 8 lane wide 200feet long Le Mans circuit.
CIRCUIT (http://www.origin8.com/bradstrack/HOLM_2001.htm)
CLUB (http://www.dhorc.freeserve.co.uk/Welcome.htm)

That is a lot of track;). Is that the old Le mans circuit?. Is it like the real event with 3 or 4 drivers?

M Coupe
12 Jan 2003, 21:44
It says on the site that there are 4 drivers and they run an hour on one lane, then swap over to another etc etc until they have been going for the full 24.

We run Strombecker. Track is easily available via ebay, but hasn't been made in years (most of ours was bought when they were in business). The cars, we strip off the hard shells and put thin lexan shells on them, painted by ourselves. Have a look at our car section of the web pages.

Here's a sample:

i really should get back into slot car racing. My interest has been varing recently but i'll probably buy a new car this year. Ninco are releaseing a Kimi Raikkonen McLaren, it looks great I might get it when I have the money. I'm also interested to hear that Scalextric will be releasing a couple of IRL cars, but I havent seen any pics of them yet. Scalex are also doing kits, I might look into them also.
