Dudes,
I'm looking for some good books about the histories of :
(a) CanAm
(b) Saloons (non-BTCC) preferably 1950's to 1980's
(c) Sportscar (Tourist Trophies, older Le Mans, roadsports, etc - pref. 1940's to 1980's)
If any one knows of GOOD books with an ISBN if you have it, please furnish me with details.
Cheers you lot,
Bookworm
Pete Lyons wrote a history of the Can Am a couple of years ago. I think it was titled "Can-Am Photo History". Lyons was a great writer for AUTOWEEK and later FORMULA Magazine (which became ON TRACK)here in the states in the 70's. He covered the Can AM for those magazines. He and DSJ were/still are my favorite motor sport journalists.
Murph
Graham, Murph is right about Pete Lyons, he's the best Can-Am book writer.
I've looked through my library and I have come up with three titles:
Can-Am Photo History by Pete Lyons
Publisher = Motorbooks International
isbn = 0760308063
Can-Am by Pete Lyons
Publisher = Motorbooks International
isbn = 0760300178
Can-Am Cars 1966-1975 by David McKinney
Publisher = Osprey
isbn = 185532900X
As for a book on Sportscars I find this one a very good one:
Sports Cars and Competition Driving by Paul Frere and Phill Hill
Publisher = Bently Publishers
isbn = 0837602025
And since you're such a Mini fan, I found this:
Essential Mini-Cooper by Anders Clausager
Publisher = Bay View Books Ltd
isbn = 1870979869
I hope I have been a little bit of help.
Gerard.
Do you want a good book on Sportscar?: "American Racing / Road Racing in the 50s and 60s" by Tom Burnside and Denise McCluggage (ISBN 3-89508-246-5). It's really wonderful.
Thanks blokes - shall search them out. Keep 'em coming, please.
Jarama,
Depends what constitutes sportscars in 1950's America. I'm not a fan of muscle cars - we have too many corners in Blighty ;) :D
Hi, Graham:
The book in question isn't at all about muscle cars... I dislike muscle cars too.
In this book are reflected mainly the american meetings with european participation -drivers and cars- such as Nassau, Venezuela, Cuba, Sebring -including the '59 G.P.- Mosport, Bridgehampton, Watkins Glen...
Thanks Jarama,
I'll see if I can get a look at it somewhere.
