Should Bathurst be 2L (new rules) World Cup even without an ASTC in the future?

Let's say the unthinkable happends and the ASTC folds. Australia is unable to implement the new ETC 2002 rules in Australia. Would it then be a dumb idea for Australia to nominate Mt Panorama as the site for the Touring Car World Cup? Hold the event in, say, late November. Cars can be attracted from ETCC, and same rules (i'm talking 2005 here) have been adopted for BTCC, Scandanavia, South America, Asia, Japan, South Africa, North America, Middle East(!).Massive live TV coverage around the world on pay tv.

Or another idea is Bathurst race as part of an Asia-Pacific series: Macau, Bathurst, Wellington street race, Korea (get on the F3 race program), and Mt Fuji.

In both cases a race at Bathurst does not have to be 1000km. Could be two 2 hr races for example, but 1000km is best option.

I would say yes, V8's following around each other all day just isn't getting the juices flowing any more. Michael ,Will you be getting out to some ASTC races thus year, if so it would be good to see you there.

agreed, give the bathurst 1000 back to 2L so it'll be an international standard race like in 87,88,97 and 98.

I think if the ETC regs got that popular we would definatley have a series in Australia, it'd be inevitable, like when we adopted Group A and ST.

It would be awesome if it was the world cup, or even better a round of a World Touring Car Championship, that way heaps of europeans could come out to go against the Australian cars. I'd rather watch International standard racing at Bathurst than the 5 Litres.

In recent years, I thought a World Touring Car Championship or Bathurst, etc... was always made difficult b/c (everyone) one broadcaster always wants exclusive coverage of the event. B/c every other country or broadcaster balks at the possibility of having to license the race, no one ends up willing to cover the series or license the race if they lose the right???

That'd be great, an Asia-Pacific Touring Car series. Nice idea.
