Fushida was a non-starter in 1975, so he actually didn't compete.
The first Japanese driver to participate in a Grand Prix in a Japanese car was Masahiro Hasemi.
He drove a Kojima-Ford Cosworth KE007 during the Japanese GP of 1976.
It was the onliest GP he competed in, but he did set the fastest lap.

Gerard, very topical but I'm afraid incorrect.

Answer :

It was started with a Union Jack as the drivers couldn't see the lights because of the sun.
