PRESS RELEASE
Clubs Unite to Preserve Motorsport Heritage
At a special meeting held at Silverstone on Tuesday 29th February, representatives from organising clubs, circuit owners and other organisations agreed in principle to the formation of the British Motorsport Central Archive Association.
Organisations represented at this meeting included BRDC, BRSCC, BARC, RAC, MSA, Castle Combe, Mallory Park, Haymarket Publications, Bugatti Owners Club, The F1 Register, HSCC, BMRMC, VSCC, Racing Past Ltd., 500 Owners Association, AMRA, Thoroughbred Grand Prix and the 750MC
The aim of the Association is to protect the rich heritage of success in the sport, to provide facilities for those wishing to conduct research and for them to gain access to material and have space to work.
It is proposed that a central archive will be created and be based at Silverstone, which will house race reports and results, programmes, posters, magazines, photographs, film, video, sound recordings, books, manuscripts and promotional material. It will also hold details of other archives and collections in private hands, eventually creating a network of archive material that can be accessed from any member site.
A web site www.bmca.co.uk (http://www.bmca.co.uk) is now under construction
