AUSTRIA'S Trivia - Lap 3AUSTRIA 24 Mar 2000, 16:08 The Question will be postet today at 17:00 o'clock.(time of this Bulletin board) Good luck. E.T. AUSTRIA 24 Mar 2000, 17:00 The 'Same places' lap: Question A) Some earlier GP-winners went to become constructors after their driving-career. Two of them claimed their first rostrum places of their 'own cars' at the same place, they won also as drivers. Who were the drivers/constructors, where and when were the races. Question B) There are some GP-winning fathers with their sons, also winning GP's. But which father/son-combination won GPs in the same place? (Not strictly the same track!) Question C) Winning the one and letal injured the other of two kindred drivers in the same place, did this happen? A tip from the organizers: There is no rule, answering all questions at the same time! Post, as soon as you have one ready ! I hope, this will make you scraping your head for a while ... E.T. [This message has been edited by AUSTRIA (edited 24 March 2000).] Testa Rossa 24 Mar 2000, 17:29 Hello I found Question A quite difficult to understand. Here is my answer : Course of Champions, Brands Hatch, March 12th 1967, first podium and victory for an Eagle, built and driven by Dan Gurney. Course of Champions, Brands Hatch, March 17th 1968, first podium and victory for a McLaren, built and driven by Bruce McLaren. Testa Rossa AUSTRIA 24 Mar 2000, 17:41 Testa Rossa ! Some earlier GP-winners went to become constructors after their driving-career. Two of them claimed their first rostrum places (=podest place, under first three) (as teamowners) with their 'own cars' at the same place (race-track), where they won also as drivers. (some years ago Sorry for my bad english, producing some misunderstanding ... hope, you can follow now, so try it again, please. E.T. Testa Rossa 24 Mar 2000, 17:59 Question B Antonio Ascari won the Italian GP at Monza on Octobre 14th 1924 Alberto Ascari won the Italian GP at Monza on September 7th 1952 Antonio Ascari won the Belgian GP at Spa on June 28th 1925 Alberto Ascari won the Belgian GP at Spa on June 22th 1952 (and 1953) Graham Hill won the Australian GP at Lakeside on February 20th 1966 (Formula Tasmane) Damon Hill won the Australian GP at Adelaïde on November 12th 1995 (and 1996) Graham Hill won the German GP at the Nürburgring on August 5th 1962 Damon Hill won the German GP at Hockenheim on July 28th 1996 For the Hill family, same country only. Testa Rossa AUSTRIA 24 Mar 2000, 18:07 Testa Rossa, did you understand question A) now ? Testa Rossa 24 Mar 2000, 18:21 Sorry Austria but I don’t get it. What does the word rostrum mean ?? My English-French dictionnary tells me “podium”. My Latine-French dictionnaty tells me “tribune”, that is podium. So why do say “under first three”. Are the guys we are looking for on the podium (as my dictionnaries are telling me), or are they “under first three” which I understand (perhaps wrongly) as fourth at best? Testa Rossa AUSTRIA 24 Mar 2000, 18:45 I will come back on my english-practise ... Forget 'under the first three'; it is a bad translation of a german idiom; of course I ment within the first three: first, second or third! On the podium, in fact :) I'm looking for someone, who was a GP-winner as driver. After retiring from the driver-carreer, he built his own racing-team: On the same track, where his car - driven by another driver of course - got it's first podiumplace, he also had won earlier as driver. And I know two such guys !!! ADDED later: OOOPS! In fact, you will find only one. Unfortunately I used the term 'place' in two different meanings. Yeah, if an Austrian and a Frenchmen talk english ... :p [This message has been edited by AUSTRIA (edited 24 March 2000).] Testa Rossa 24 Mar 2000, 19:08 Question A (a last understood...) Brasilian GP, March 30th 1997, at Interlagos, Prost-Mugen JS 45, Panis, 3th Brasilian GP, March 25th 1989, at Interlagos, Ferrari 641 F1, Prost, 1st Monaco GP, May 11th 1997, Stewart-Ford SF-1, Barrichello, 2nd Monaco GP, May 22th 1966, BRM P261, Stewart, 1st Testa Rossa PS : About Question C, Austria, do you know an example yourself or are you making us work just in case ? Because the more I think about it, the less I find... PS 2 : Austria, check your mail box... AUSTRIA 24 Mar 2000, 19:16 Testa Rossa, you did it !! Congratulation, good time! Question B) I know another, but hard one ;) I checked my mailbox and already replied (two hours ago !!) No further support this evening; I have to leave you now. bye, bye E.T. Michael M 24 Mar 2000, 20:16 Question C: Antonio Ascari was killed during the French GP at Montlhery 1925, his son Alberto Ascari won the French GP in 1952. But stop! French GP 1952 was at Reims, so it's not the same place! After long brainstorming I found the solution: it's the other way round. Antonio Ascari won the Italian GP at Monza in 1924, where his son Alberto was deadly injured in 1955. Michael M 24 Mar 2000, 20:31 Gilles Villeneuve won the Spanish GP in 1981 (Jarama), his son Jacques in 1997 (Circuit de Catalunya). AUSTRIA 25 Mar 2000, 10:39 Testa Rossa Question C) is the one, I usually have no answer! ;) BUT this lap-3-Question-C indeed is an exception! I know an example, and it is not the one, Michael has posted !! But I think, it is hard find out !! A hint: The relationship of the two was uncle - nephew ! And it was not only the same place/Track, it was just the same race !! Michael M 25 Mar 2000, 10:51 The same race ....! This was not clearly given. I give it a try later this weekend. Michael M 25 Mar 2000, 11:34 I only can guess, J.M. Fangio and Onofre Marimon, although my information is that Marimon was Fangio's protege only. AUSTRIA 25 Mar 2000, 15:21 No, no Michael Racing has a long history ... It seems, that one of my books contents good and rare known stories - I will never tell you, which one it is ;) E.T. Michael M 30 Mar 2000, 04:07 I finally got it! Felice Nazzaro won the 1922 French GP at Strasbourg on a FIAT 804, while his nephew and team mate Biagio Nazarro crashed on the last lap and killed on the spot. AUSTRIA 30 Mar 2000, 06:38 Fantastic Michael I really didn't expect, anyone would find this. Congratuletions ! AUSTRIA 30 Mar 2000, 14:56 See the results: A) right answer ............................ 1 Point Test Rossa A) storys, anectotes, other good stuff .. 1 Point Testa Rossa ( for the two guys, who won, racing themselves in their own cars, ...) B) right answer ............................ 2 Points Testa Rossa B) storys, anectotes, other good stuff .. 1 Point Testa Rossa (for the Tasman research; but what about the both Jones?) C) right answer ............................ 3 Points Michael M C) storys, anectotes, other good stuff .. 1 Point Michael M (For he found Nazzaro and knew the name of the nephew; i didn't) And the tenth Bonus Point to Testa Rossa: for his struggling, trying to understand, what the organizer expressed in such famous way .. Congratulations !!! Only two competitors, but what ones! [This message has been edited by AUSTRIA (edited 30 March 2000).] |
