Raced F1 in 73 as a privateer. Heard he is deceased. Any info would be appreciated.

he raced a March 721G, basicly a dfv attached to an uprated f2 tub.

He died in the mid 90's from an aids related illness, he never married and was based in San Francisco after his racing career.

Just to add to what Takuma says he had a rich backer who took him into F1 but I dont know that he was really quick enough as I heard a story, maybe by Roebuck in Autospurt that he was difficult to lap being slow and unpredictable. But at least he got there...

The 721G chasis was significant, as it saved march aftrer the disaster of the mid-gearboxed 721X.

The same chasis family was used by March throught Heard/Moseley F1 era ending with the 771 in 1977.

It is roumered using the same actual tubs for many years!

The Neve/Williams 761B was an ex Stuck 1974 tub!!!!

I was surprised that Beuttler didn't achieve more in Grand Prix, primarily because I'd seen him do so well in British Formula 3 in 1970. He was a consistent front runner, regularly beating the likes of James Hunt and Carlos Pace.

I can add a brief word on the subject of Mike Beuttler. He is one of the few Grand Prix drivers with whom I had a long chat. We were on the docks at Dover waiting to load our respective cars onto the Townsend Thoresen Ferry that would sail roung to the Thames and up to Tower Bridge to become the base for the 1972 Racing Car Show.

Nothing was happening and we just drifted into a conversation that lasted quite a time. What did we talk about? Blowed if I can remember after 30 years but I can tell you that he came across as a normal, friendly and ego-free individual; (relatively rare in the world of Grand Prix drivers!)

Racing-wise, it is true to say that he was usually at the back but I don't think he was all that far behind the factory Marches that year.
