Just got Spirit of Speed 1937

I just bought 'The Spirit of Speed 1937'.
It's a game by Hasbro Interactive and developed by Microprose.
I think you all know 'Grand Prix Legends'.
This game is also about Grand Prix racing in the good old days.
Although I think it's not as good as 'Legends', this one is not that difficult to play.
It's actually very easy to get into.
You do need a 'heavy' computer to benefit from all it has to offer though.
There are 9 tracks to choose from, Tripoli, Avus, Montana, Roosevelt, Monthlery, Pau, Donington, Brooklands and Monza.
I especially like Monza, with the old banking and the Brooklands oval.
Thirteen cars, like the Alfa Romeo P3, Alfa Romeo Bimotore, Alfa Romeo 12C, Auto Union Type C, Auto Union Type D, Bugatti 35B, Bugatti 59, Duesenberg, ERA Remus, Mercedes Benz 125, Mercedes Benz 154, Miller and Napier Ralton.
I've only been playing the game for a couple of hours, so I can't tell you about everything there is.
Overall, I do like the game, but I'm easily satisfied.
The graphics are OK, but the sound is a let down.
I also think something more could have been done with the replay function.
But all in all it gives you a good impression how dangerous racing was in those days.

Gerard, I downloaded the Demo at your recommendation, and I've been having a ball.
I'm new to this gaming thang but the sound on my computer is pretty amazing and with a subwoofer, I can get a great rumble from the Mercedes W154. Thanks for the tip, its been swell.
Now I HAVE to get a wheel and pedals.
I've also been aching to try Grand Prix Legends since the first adds appeared in print. But I will go out and buy this game too.

Hi,

I have been hearing about Spirit of Speed 1937 and have been wondering whether to buy it! The only let down is that it is about the same as Grand Prix Legends. I bought GPL for the absolute superb graphics but I went to play it and guess what I only had 1 wheel left within one second! Please tell me that it is easier to control and then I'll buy but for now I won't!

Ally, Spirit of Speed 1937 is much much easier to play than Grand Prix Legends.
But before buying, why don't you download the demo, like EERO did.
You can get it from the official site at www.spiritofspeed1937.com (http://www.spiritofspeed1937.com)
Remember, it's a 25 Mb demo, so it'll take some time to download.

Just a quick note, Gerard. Thanks again for the tip. I got a wheel and pedals and the demo is even more fun. I'm looking for the game.
I got Legends for Christmas and havn't had time to set it up, but I am really looking forward to starting.

Hi EERO,

So you bought a wheel uh. Good for you.
I found out that by using a wheel I can get half a second to a second out of every lap in every racing game.
About Grand Prix Legends, it's really a very tough game to play.
It's so realistic, it doesn't allow you to make any mistakes.
Many people drop out of it because of this.
Practise, practise and when you think you've mastered the bloody thing, practise again.
But in order to make GP Legends a little bit easier, here are some sites that can help you:
GPL Setup Guides
lonestar.texas.net/~kcalsyn/gpl (http://lonestar.texas.net/~kcalsyn/gpl)
The Apex GP Legends HQ
gpl.gamestats.com (http://gpl.gamestats.com)
The Paddock

The Fast Lane www.the-fastlane.com (http://www.the-fastlane.com)

Thanks again for the further tips, Gerard.
I can just about do a lap at Monza and Watkins Glen at a crawl.
I will say that Sierra responded very quickly with the tech support I needed for my video card.
Oh, yeah, I'm practising.

I got Spirit of Speed yesterday and I may have some trouble. My pc is at the lower end of some of the system-requirements but the trouble are not caused by that. When i press escape to Pause the screen gets a bit dark and the machine locks up. I don't get any info during the game such as speed and fuel-info etc. It should!.
Does anybody else here have this problem? I don't want to make a fool out of myself in the shop! The SOS-site doesn't contain much info for me.
