Wow! Thank you Fines. You have no idea just how valuable your post is to me, too. 1920s US calendars have been something I've been putting off investigating for too long. This is a brilliant starter. Planeboy, there have been some very fine books published on the board-track speedways of the 1920s. Unfortunately, they are so specialised that the print runs were short and their current values are frightening. If I can come up with some titles, I'll post them up for you. You never know - you might strike lucky. Rob29 14 Feb 2002, 14:56 Suggest you try the American Racing History forum.www.egroups.com/group/racinghistory fines 16 Feb 2002, 02:07 Originally posted by TimD Wow! Thank you Fines. You can even find the full race results on the stats channel of http://www.motorsport.com - they are not perfect to the detail, but a very good starting point! Try get the Dick Wallen book "Guts, Gold and Glory", a VERY good book on the boards era, and still freely available, afaik. Marc C 14 Mar 2002, 03:17 Don't know if THE ROARING TWENTIES, An ALBUM OF EARLY MOTOR RACING by Cyril Posthumus is still available. It's a very interesting book...It was first published in the UK in 1980. David McKinney 14 Mar 2002, 07:10 I don't think the Posthumus book had much US content however Ray Bell 16 Mar 2002, 01:49 Actually, for 1920s racing in Australia, Barry Lake, John Medley and Graham Howard are the boys... Or you could stop in at the nursing home and ask the sole survivor, Ken McKinney, he still remembers it... Hans Etzrodt 30 May 2002, 11:52 A very informative book about racing in the USA is AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE RACING by Albert R. Bochroch |
