Anyone up for crossing the channel for the 2000 Le Mans ? This year's event was amazing viewing on TV - I really wished i'd actually got off my arse and visited it in person!
How many would be interested in making the trip this year ? I think we should go this year - before they change the rules again and it all goes bad again http://216.55.29.184/ubb/frown.gif
I`m up for the trip, a couple of friends went this year and had a fantastic time.
Craig how are you thinking of getting thereand do you want to book rooms or take a tent ??.
My friends said to take plenty of beer money, its cheap but you have no restrictions on time like here.
Lee Purnell 19 Jul 1999, 15:49 I'm up 4 it. I'll be 18 by then.............. BEER! http://216.55.29.184/ubb/biggrin.gif
Me too. If they promise to have the flying Silver Arrows again! I had never seen the race before this year but it looks like a blast! I think I may go Page & Moy, somebody told me that they had lots of beer on their buses.
Green_man4421 21 Jul 1999, 08:54 I wish. May be if it is in the hoilidays I may make it, a 10 percent chance very little.
to go from London to Paris to u need a passport?
I am not clear about this EU stuff, y'all; when I get to France, am I in the EU and then no more borders/passport stamps/etc.?
The Page & Moy Le Mans trip is 195 for 4 days. That is practically free. Sarah do you want to share my room? they charge you extra 54 for a single room so you might as well have somebody else in it for that price.
Why not Liz, I like saving money.
When the time gets closer we will firm it up then. I figure you really only need a place to freshen up and keep your stuff on a weekend like this, so the more the merrier; if there are other gals out there who want to get in on this offer, let me know.
I'm definitely interested, holidays and money permitting! Don't mind sharing to keep the costs down.
LizH and Sarah, do y'all drive? I'd pay your share of the hotel if you'd do the driving! But whatever; looks as if you get about 10 off per night for each person up to 4. That can add up over 3 or 4 days.
What are the pit section seats like? I think I will get one there so I can watch them work. That is the part I like best.
[This message has been edited by Liz (edited 22 July 1999).]
Liz, I do drive and wound not mind driving.
I drive too! and can probably borrow hubbys company car to cut the petrol costs as well!!!!
So what are we waiting for?
Oh yes, the races.
Well, let's email them and tell them to start their engines! We are ready to rumble!
S&L do you have a preference re hotel and how long do you want to stay - I thought 3 days - that is around 169 each (its 159 if we can get one more to join us) and includes circuit parking and channel crossing and breakdown insurance as well as the hotel, but you get your own race tickets. And whoever drives I will pay her share. Is that fair?
P.S. Guys, we have OUR trip all arranged - YOU are falling behind.
NB LizH tried to email you and got something about a "permanent fatal error." Sounds creepy.
[This message has been edited by Liz (edited 23 July 1999).]
Well, you know us blokes - we'll just turn up on the day, hit the bar, and hope it all works out http://216.55.29.184/ubb/smile.gif
However, a trip to Le Mans is hardly a trip down the M25 to Brands, is it ?!
So, who's up for it ? I think Invader seemed interested when I mentioned it to him at Snett. Even Danielsun seemed excited about it when I spoke to him this afternoon - and he's in Australia!
Danielsun 31 Jul 1999, 14:11 Yes, Craig, I am interested. All you have to do is put in a collection from everyone at Ten-Tenths and I'm there. http://216.55.29.184/ubb/wink.gif I'll save as much as I can and we'll see how we go. Maybe even take in a few BTCC meetings.. Just think, me, you and Invader in a bar. Oh sh!t...
Danielsun 31 Jul 1999, 14:14 Craig, or somebody in Pommyland, please give me a rough idea of the cost of going to France for the race. I can do the accommodation in the UK alright I think, and the airfares, but I need to know how much more I'd need to save for the trip...
Lee Purnell 31 Jul 1999, 18:08 I'm back from Wales Everyone!
I would be really interested in going to Le Mans if we get enough people together
Danielsun I bet you could ride with us - still one seat open; just bring gas (petrol?) money and buy a pizza or two - get one of the boyos to give you space in a tent in the infield and you're home free.
Danielsun 3 Aug 1999, 14:27 It's okay, Liz: I'm young and Australia is basically a little America, so I'm well-versed in that sort of language. Although I particularly like the South Park vocabulary... http://216.55.29.184/ubb/wink.gif
I just need to save up a few grand - not an easy thing, unless I sell my car - I'm up for five hundred on it this week alone, what with RACQ and insurance due... We'll see how we go. I'll let you know...
Who invited the bloody convicts?
Convicts?
Danielsun, I have an Aussie boyfriend and he's not a bit American - much more of a Brit, but he sounds just like the guys in "The Lighthorsemen" (he's from Adelaide).
[This message has been edited by Liz (edited 04 August 1999).]
For everyone who wants to travel to Le Mans next year, there's an excellent website available, which informs you about how to travel, where to sit, hotels, etc.etc.
It's at www.club-arnage.com/ (http://www.club-arnage.com/)
Regards,
Gerard.
Danielsun 14 Aug 1999, 15:01 You'll be Dead Vader when I'm finished with you, Dave O... Thanks for letting us know that, Liz! Can I still go with you? I'm really trying to save to get over there next year and Le Mans would just cap it all off!
Fine with me if LizH and Sarah agree - it is going to be one of their cars and LizH said she has a shot at taking her husband's company car so it should be roomy enough. If it looks as if you're going to be able to do it, let one of us know and we'll go from there.
Gerard, that site is great! Can anybody tell me if it is worthwhile to join the ACO? I might anyway just to get the newsletters. But I'd like to know what else you get besides good discount seats and Tee Shirts.
Well, Danielsun, you got two votes out of three. I think you may have it knocked.
Gerard, in looking at that site you posted, I notice that there is a group discount on tickets for groups of 20 or more. I bet we could get 20 people together if we tried. Are you up for looking into organizing something along these lines? If the rest of us promise to cooperate and stuff? PUHLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEZE?
Sorry Liz,
I would like to help you out on this but I really can't find the time to do that.
I'm in a managerial function and I'm working about 14 hours a day.
Sometimes even at weekends.
So, I only have about 2 free hours a day, which I mostly spend on this and some other forums.
I always try to do my best whenever I take on something, but I'm afraid I would let you and other people down on this.
And that's something I do not like to do.
But I'm sure there's someone else who has the time to look into this.
Regards,
Gerard.
Sorry to hear it, Gerard, but I quite understand. Anybody else like to volunteer? I am a good sergeant but not such a good lieutenant, if you get my drift; will be glad to assist if somebody wants to take command.
Truckosaurus 20 Aug 1999, 14:41 I've been to Le Mans for the past 3 years,
and definitely recommend it to everyone.
My advice is to not stay in a hotel but to
camp, not only is camping dirt cheap, it's
where all the fun is. The facilities are
not too bad as well. If you stay in a hotel
not only are you away from the action but
you'll get stuck in traffic getting to the
circuit so will have to get out of bed at
an ungodly hour on the Saturday...
The cheapest way to get tickets is through
the organisers (the ACO) whose details are
on the Club Arnage website listed in the
earlier post in this thread. They have a
dedicated English speaking telephone number.
The entry tickets are remarkable value at
£45 which gets you into the pre-qualifying
weekend, the qualifying sessions in the week
before the race and the race weekend itself.
Probably the best value motorsport event in
the world.
Campsites are around 30 quid per vehicle,
and grandstand seats at about £40 a go
(useful if you are in a large group as a
rendezvous point).
See you there. :-)
Is there any value in belonging to the ACO; is the discount and the special seating worth it?
As far as camping goes, I take it you are considerably under 40 if you recommend staying in a tent all night. http://216.55.29.184/ubb/wink.gif
Danielsun 22 Aug 1999, 15:18 I'll be in it whatever the situation; Liz, please let me know...
I am looking to hire a car for the trip,so any body who would like a liftfrom the UK pls let me know.A small donation towards the gas/ferry or if you have a tent i could share is all i ask
Got the informatoin from the ACO - you can order it fromt the website and they are really prompt, although their English is a bit quaint. (Not so quaint as my French, I suppose ... ) Anyway, there are many many benefits to belonging, like a special enclosure where you can go and use decent loos, and a bar with a closed circuit TV and all that - and special grandstand overlooking the pits which I am most interested in seeing - and you can buy up to 6 tickets (I assume general admission tickets) at about 80 ff cheaper than the public rate. And of course you get goodies like posters, a book with all the inside scoop in it, and a framed picture of the winning car and pilotes afterwards. It costs 450 FF which in Canadian is about $100 I think, if your country's money is actually worth anything it is probably cheaper. Look into it. The address is on that website Gerard provided above.
Danielsun, we will be making our arrangements at the first of the year, i think. I will set up a group address and we will see where we get to.
Hi Liz, Sarah, Danielson et al
Sorry haven't been around for a while. As far as travelling goes I'll go with the flow. If I get the company car, driver, 3 passengers and associated luggage (tents?) will be no trouble. Camping does sound like fun, and if it keeps the cost down there will be more for the beer!!!
I am too old to camp - :( - or is that too decadant - but as I said I'd pay for the driver's hotel bill if you'd rather camp that will save me money too! So whatever the majority wants to do ...
I don't mind if we camp or not.
Danielsun 27 Aug 1999, 15:02 I'll camp - I just hope that you're more mature than the yobbos on Year Eleven Camp three years ago... I should think you are... just so long as none of you wear Schumacher merchandise!
Not me - I am going to be in Rydell kit if I can get some by then! I'm not exactly the merrie woodsman type; we had one of those house-sized RVs and my mum thought roughing it was black & white TV and no cable. But of course one can do anything for a couple of days! Which reminds me, how long are we staying?
I thought we original were talking about 3 days. Any longer and I'll join you in a Hotel! I certainly won't be wearing schui gear. My allegience (sp?) will always be to Team Dynamics, or more precisely Matt Neal.
Danielsun, maturity along with age is a state of mind.
Truckosaurus 1 Sep 1999, 17:24 The first year I went to Le Mans our group only went for the weekend and immediately decided to go for the whole week the following year. If you are making the effort of crossing the channel from the UK (or travelling from further afield) you might as well go for the week (meaning Weds-Sun).
You get 2x 2hr practice sessions on the Wedsnesday and Thursday evenings and a pit lane walkabout on the Friday (all covered by the one standard entry ticket).
During the time not spent watching the racing the best place to be is in and around the campsites enjoying a beer with thousands of likeminded petrolheads. Staying in a hotel doesn't have the same appeal. Even the showers are pretty good except for the queues in peak hours.
We spectated from the ACO grandstand this year for the first time, very impressive, it has bars (well a fridge and a table) selling drinks slightly cheaper than the trackside bars and has plenty of very clean toilets, there were rumours of showers for the 2000 race....
That's why I asked; I had heard others say that a longer stay was worth it. But a lot of things depend on how much time people can get off from work, and since we are 4 travelling together from different parts of the world, it would be well to settle on something - at least to have the driver's input on the subject - so that everyone can make plans. I have to be back for the Montreal GP, but I can fly into Montreal on the Friday (or Thursday night) if necessary. The other question that must be asked if we are going to camp is: anybody got a tent?
I have not got a tent and don't mind how long we stay.
You're very easy going, Sarah ;)
Sarah watch out for his next question! ;)
Danielsun 5 Sep 1999, 01:40 I have a three-person tent; surely you don't want me to bring that half way across the world and back? If so, tell me by e-mail...
I have just looked into the costs involved and these are this years prices as a base to work from,
General ticket :- ff320(£31) admits for all practice and race days- ff240(£23)if ACO member.
Grandstands:- ff190(£19) to 470(£45) - ACO have there own (price ?)
Camping:- ff180(£17) to 200(£20)
Also a part of the motorway route is toll charged at ff50(£5).
Sorry but i can`t get my head round how to work out the ferry charge yet,HELP!!
As the Ladies seem to be well along with their plannig i hope this will spur on the guy`s.
BTW now looking at cost of hire for a 4/6 berth motorhome so need 3 other to share, any takers??
Come on lads how about a mobile BAR !!!
Truckosaurus 6 Sep 1999, 15:24 Ferry Prices can easily be found on the websites of the various ferry companies use Yahoo to find a list.
They are clever enough to charge almost twice as much if you travel for longer than 5days which adds to the cost of going for the week.
As for hiring a camper, this is very expensive, we did it this year, and probably won't again, perhaps it would be worth it if the weather is really bad.
Ours is a package price that includes ferry, parking on the circuit, and either the hotel or a camping space for one tent per vehicle. Can tents be hired in the UK? That might be our best bet so as to avoid having to schlepp the thing around - and if it rains we can take it back and let THEM clean it.
Truckosaurus 7 Sep 1999, 10:55 Don't worry about the one tent per car rule.
I would have thought you could hire tents (or buy cheap used ones) via an independent camping/outdoors shop (rather than a Milletts style chain).
If you are in the UK and if you know where to look for a good deal, I am sure you can. Since I'm not and I don't, I crave further enlightenment from one who is and who does.
Attention Le Mans 2000 Car Team: Is it time to start organizing yet?
Did you know there is a MOTORCYCLE 24 hours of Le Mans? I saw it last night. Or at least the beginning of it. What a sell.
Liz
the bike race st Le Mans is called the Bol D`or and has been around longer than the car 24hrs i think.
We used to get some small Tv spots about it in the UK but that seems to have dried up.
At my local track (Snetterton) we have a 6 hour bike race and alot of the teams come there after Le Mans as most specialise in the enduro events.
Hope this helps??
BTW if anybody from the UK is going to Le Mans(cars) and would like to contact me i have a good ferry package worked out(must be booked before Jan 7th)
Thanks - I am not much for motorcycle racing (they seem to be off them rather a lot), but it has to be a lot tougher to ride a motorcycle for 24 hours than a car. I'd rather watch the cars though.
I see in the ACO site that they have changed the dates of Le Mans to the 17-18 weekend. Does this now conflict with the Montreal GP?
[This message has been edited by Liz (edited 17 November 1999).]
OK folks, has anyone done anything about this yet ? Judge, tell us about your deal...
I hear all the campsites are already booked solid, so we'd have so suss something else out there... anyone have any ideas ?
I've got to book up my 2000 holiday tomorrow...
BolD`or 24 hour bike race has nothing to do with leMans. Correct me if I`m wrong , but the Bol 24 is held at Le Castelet (S of France anyway) and the LeMans bike 24 hour job is a different race.
PS. No works Mercs or Porsches, boo hoo boo hoo. My people book before the first week in
Jan , for the best sites and guaranteed places etc. SO GET YOUR FINGERS OUT IF YOU ARE GOING.
I`ll wave you you all from the pits ! I`m the big bloke on a bbbbbbiiiiiikkkkkkeeee
ttthhhhhaaaaattttttt wwwweeeeeennnnntttt bbbbbyyyyyyyyyy.
[This message has been edited by CATMAN (edited 01 December 1999).]
Truckosaurus 1 Dec 1999, 11:25 The campsite tickets have all been sold/allocated to the various ticket agencies (to sell on at a profit).
I'm planning to get my tickets through the ACO (I joined it last week) - I can get up to 6 they said. As far as campsites go, I have two agents that both have very good packages, one is Page & Moy and the other, erm, isn't. I'll look it up when I get home. I am planning to start buying tickets as soon as they go on sale, and as soon as I can get a booking in with one of the companies, I'll be in touch with Liz H, Sarah and Danielsun and we will get our act on the road.
Okay so I was a general in another life! ;) I will let you know of any good deals that I find.
I may be swanning of to LM next year.
Two reasons...
(a) The TVR Car Club always have a great barbecue for members
(b) TVR said they <might> (for the umpteenth time) race there next year.
So 2000 may be my year...
That's not to say I don't want to see the other cars...
If I have enough moolah, I may make a nice weekend of it by hiring a big motorhome for my brother and I, and our stash of Pepsi ;)
Here's hoping for a lottery win....
Okay, the other outfit is called Airtrack Motor Racing and is British (of course - they seem to do this the best) - advertises among other things that they have VIP camping with "proper toilets and showers and electricity" which sounds like my idea of camping. Anyway I have contacted them and will see what they say. They also have a package that will allow you to visit the Dodge Viper pits, if you are into snakes.
Here is a response I received from one enquiry I made. Prices are a bit more expensive than I was thinking, but you do get your ticket, camping paid for, travel to & from the campsite to trackside & breakfast/dinner.
Anyone interested/know anything about this deal ? Link to site: http://www.clubvalan.demon.co.uk

Hello Craig,
Thanks for your email, Glad to hear your going to Le Mans
next year, If you have not been before you are in for a treat, there is
not an event like it.
We run 3 camping weekends to Le Mans i.e.
24 Hour Bikes - 15 / 16th April,
French Bike Grand Prix - 13 /14th May
24 Heures du Mans - 17/18th June (I take it you mean this one)
The June event attracts over 200,000 people and I think is the second
biggest motor racing event in the world. (the first is the Indy 500)
We operate our weekends from a 3 star campsite 10 miles from the
circuit, we do this for the good security and facilities that you wont
get at the circuit. It has proper showers & toilets, open air swimming
pool, its a really nice place. On the site we have our own marquees,
table chairs catering equipment Satellite TV etc. and we provide you
with full English breakfast, and evening meals, free tea & coffee, we
get your general entry ticket for the weekend and we have 2 coaches laid
on to take you from the campsite after breakfast on Saturday to the
circuit, it brings you back in the evening for your meals then it goes
back after your meal and brings you back at 1 & 2 o clock in the
morning, then again on Sunday it goes down after breakfast and returns
after the end of the race, we pay your camping fee but we do not provide
tents or ferry reservations, you need to get yourself there with your
own camping equipment, once you are there we look after you for the
weekend,
2000 will be our seventh year of operating club VALAN and we have had
200 people staying with us for each of the last 3 years.
The cost next year will be £155.00 per person assuming you arrive on
Friday, you will get a meal on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and
breakfast on Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings.
Should you want to arrive on Thursday it will be £20.00 for the extra
night with 2 extra meals
I hope that gives you some idea, please give Val or Myself a call on
01908 311956 anytime day or evening up to 11pm and we can answer any
questions that you might have
We only go up to 200 people this is our limit and we start getting
booked up in the new year, a deposit of £25.00 per person will secure
your place.
We look forward to hearing from you
Alan

Craig
you would have to add to this the ferry and ithe best one i have found is from Stenna Line at £150 for a car or M/home(up to 6.2m) with driver and 3 passengers, but this offer has to be booked by 7th Jan.
Re: ferry prices
I don't know if they've stopped doing this offer this year, but last year we used SeaFrance, it cost us £90 return for a four door car and two occupants, and £1 surcharge for an additional passenger. It was booked no more than 10 days before the event, and we travelled down on the Thursday, returning in the wee small hours of Monday.
Hope this helps.
AirTrack has VIP Camping for around 100 Sterling (I don't have that little gadget to indicate pounds, on this keyboard) for three nights of camping (they supply the tents, with electricity) and ferry, parking at the circuit. Race tickets are available but are apparently about twice what the ACO charges. They figure on 4 to a car, self-drive, to give you this price; there's an extra charge if you have fewer than 4 people. They also have add-ons, some of them very expensive and some not, one to Mulsanne on their bus for 18 sterling. This is the one I am recommending to the group I'm going with. But I'm getting my tix through the ACO.
Truckosaurus 16 Dec 1999, 17:08 I've just booked tickets for myself and a group of friends for next year's Le Mans.
We used 'Just Tickets' ( http://www.justtickets.co.uk ) as they will sell you, as the name suggests, the race tickets without any need to book travel tickets with them (although they do sell ferry tickets etc.)
We went with Airtrack this year, who although slightly pricey, do offer a good service, and did have plenty of camping tickets available even when everyone else had sold out. They even put on a BBQ for people camping with them in the on-site camp (although I missed it for some reason, which is unusual for me)
We'll be in Maison Blanche campsite from Wednesday morning. See you there! :)
I ordered my tickets today through the ACO. They are going very fast, folks. If you plan to go, you'd better get them soon.
When are we going to make our reservations? I don't want to end up sleeping in Paris. I hate Paris.
Truckosaurus 12 Jan 2000, 14:11 Liz,
Did you order any grandstand seats from the ACO? If so, where/what/when/how much etc?
I spoke to them before Xmas about getting seats in the 'ACO' grandstand which is where we were last year (recommended, as it has a great view of the tv screen and most importantly has it's own clean toilets with no queues :) ), the lady said they'd 'sold out' but they'd put me on the waiting list.
When I got back from my Xmas holiday, I had a letter waiting for me from the ACO which said some thing along the lines of 'this is to confirm your booking, we can't sell you anything yet as we don't know the prices and the race date won't be definite until the New Year. We'll write to you again to let you know.' I have no idea if I have seats or not.
That's the letter I got with my booking form--dated December 13, 1999, received by fax yesterday. I just filled in what I wanted and sent it off by fax (to France, which is a neat trick as they never give you the right fax number the first time), so I don't know yet either.
As of today no answer from the ACO; I have sent them a stern email asking them to let me know if I have tickets or not - I'll give them a week and then I'm going elsewhere and see if I recommend them to anybody in the future.
Sarah and I are making our reservations with Airtrack this weekend to come. Liz H's email doesn't answer and Danielsun if you want to ride with us it's 19 GBP. Soon as we're fixed we'll let you know where to meet up with us.
ACO will be shipping their tickets in March. Just heard that from them today.
Received confirmation from Airtrack today; total of 407 GBP for the weekend including travel, camping, tickets, Mulsanne excursion and barbecue on Saturday night. Now if I can just get my ACO tickets - now I can believe I am really going!
P.S. if anyone hears from Danielsun, tell him he'll owe Sarah 19 GBP if he wants to ride with us. If nobody hears from him, and somebody else needs a seat, same price.
Danielsun 12 Mar 2000, 12:06 You know you could have just e-mailed me...
But, yes, I'll be there!! Liz, can you please let me know (by mail!) where you're at so far...
I did email you and LizH but apparently she is gone, and maybe you didn't get yours or something. [update: I found out that you'd changed your email address since I logged it into my address book!] Anyway its all booked now and you should have your confirmation by now.
[This message has been edited by Liz (edited 21 March 2000).]
Truckosaurus 31 Mar 2000, 16:55 Thought I'd update this topic... :)
To tie up loose ends from my previous posts (not that I expect anyone remembers or cares), I've received an invoice from the ACO for my lots of grandstand seats, we're in the 'H' tribune as the ACO one is sold out (despite being ACO members for the race in '99 and ordering in October/November last year).
I'm also off to the practice weekend at the end of April (for the first time), so I should be able to report back on the entrants and any goings on at the track.
I've also emailed Craig offering to put to together some information which could form the basis of a 'Circuit Guide'.
A bientot. Guy.
I have had no word from the ACO as yet, only promises that I'd have them in March (which is now over, you'll note!)
Catch me joining this outfit next year.
Folks, this seems as good as time as any to announce to the world my sad withdrawal from the party set to set sail for that far away land of France this summer. This is due to a number of factors, not least a cock-up at work which means I am unable to take my holiday at the time requested originally. Coupled with the current fiscal situation... :(
Next time around, hey folks ? I'll be at Silverstone for the ALMS/FIA GT festival though - for sure! £20 ? You can't go wrong at that!
Sorry to hear that, Craig - I was looking forward to meeting you there! Will you be at the BTCC Snetterton race though? :(
I wish to report that today I received my ACO GRANDSTAND TICKETS! They are in ACO Grandstand J. I will not tell you how I did it because ... :o
Sarah, Danielsun and I are all paid up and ready to rumble - now it's just counting the days.
Yes, Liz, i'll be camping at Snett... :D
Looks as if we will too. The others all want to and heck, it's cheaper than a hotel.
nearly time for the race so best this thread is dragged back to the top of the pile
Hi,
Sorry about the double posting stuff Andy.
Hope this is the right place for chaps and chapess's going to the greatest race in the world?
Anyone going from Portsmouth on the 14th?
Doh.. Doh.. I've done it again, must be three posts lucky?
I'll get my coat.
Simon
We are going from Dover on the 16th. We'll see you there. http://ten-tenths.accelerator.org/ubb/smile.gif
Just on the subject of Le Mans, if anyone is still after a ticket then take a look at RickP:Clio33's topic 'Distaster!!!!!!' in the trackside forum.
Hope you all have a great time at Le Mans http://ten-tenths.accelerator.org/ubb/smile.gif
Truckosaurus 8 Jun 2000, 18:04 All my plans to cruise down to Le Mans in my shiny Subaru have been scuppered by some little old lady who didn't manage to stop at a T-junction last Thursday. :( At least I got to see what my airbag looks like.
I'm now scavving a lift of someone else though.
We're sailing over on Tuesday, so see you there... :)
Maison Blanche site, look out for bright green Ginetta G27.
i havent been following this topic as Im a MILLION miles away from Le Man and no one will shout me an airfare or free accomadation and food for that matter ...gee i dont ask for much do I ??...oh yeh why did i reply..ummm
if ya interested Ive posted the Le Man entry list in the sportscar forum...looks like being a hell of a race just wish i could be there..
I want to live in Europe I want to live in Europe
Don't forget folks in the UK, the new issue of Autosport just out has the handy Le Mans guide in it.
Yep, just reading that circuit guide has left me thinking "what possible reason was there I'm not going this year"...
...oh, yes. I can't afford it. That's why not.
But NEXT year, plans are already in motion. Looks like I'm going to be piloting the Station Wagon which carries the belongings of the sports car drivers in our gang.
Which brings me to a question. One or two of our party really can't be doing with a long sea crossing, so it has to be Calais for us, but do any of you clever Le Mans veterans out there know a good road route which AVOIDS Paris (too nerve-wracking) and Rouen (too grotty). Out of preference we would take the more westerly route, so does anyone know any good back-doubles which make a scenic alternative to the frankly Godawful grimness which is downtown Rouen?
Tim D-
you keen chap, perhaps you can be the first post on the Le Mans 2001 thread :)
Marcus, all Danielsun did was scrounge up the air fare and his race tickets; and cadged a seat in our car and a space in our tent from us for Le Mans! It can be done!
I am off tomorrow to buy film, batteries, warm sox and a Canadian Flag. Can anybody tell me what the weather is likely to be over there? Should I take my jacket?
Current forcast from:
http://www.excite.co.uk/weather/results?nav=2&city=le+mans
suggest that Wednesday will be 27 degrees, Thursday 28 and Friday 29 degrees.
Looks good.
I'll be in a Sylva Leader somewhere on Maison Blanche on Wednesday.
Cheers
Simon
Bluebottle 12 Jun 2000, 22:14 Silva Leader... isn't that one of few cars uglier than any Dutton?? ;)
Nice to know I'm not the only kit driver here!!- shame we're not going this year- can't wait for 2001- another trip to France for the Hurricane!
Yep it's ugly but still wooops arse (sometimes) on the track.
Simon
You lucky folks are probably already there :p
If anyone who has been has tales to tell about the weekend, please post on the forum we'd love to hear how it was.
