Lee Purnell 7 Jun 2000, 19:21 Ok, so here at the "All classes" forum we have been given the job of talking about Rallying :) (Probally to stop us talking Combe and Minis ;))
So, What do we know? Who do we know? Does any one here rally?? Let us know and we can have a little chat about it :)
DAVID PATERSON 8 Jun 2000, 04:55 Last weekend a round of the Australian Rally Championship was held near my home so i went and had a look. The event was held entirely on gravel except for one tarmac stage, the Noosa hillclimb was used as a special stage. The event proved popular with spectators as a very big turnout was there to see the action. Of course the two WRC cars in Australia dominated the event but most spectators also seemed to enjoy the Group A and Group N cars that followed them. Most popular however were the Datsun 1600 PRC cars at the back of the field, a huge cheer went up every time a Datto went by, i was in heaven. :)
I dont know alot about rallying but i do know that the srivers are absolutely amazing...I watch it from time to time when its on tele but other than that I dont see alot..have been watching the WRC a bit closer this year to see how Michael guest is going in the Hyundai and so far hes doing OK.

- I can see that:)
Dan Friel 8 Jun 2000, 13:42 Don't know much about rallying... Apart from when my girlfriend bought me a day at the Silverstone Rally School (well done bird!!) It's more difficult than it looks... and then this pro took me out in an ols escort around the special rally stage, he scared the living poo out've me!!
But now I have Eurosport, I get to see lots of it - including Aussie stuff, with Possum Bourne et al.
elephino 8 Jun 2000, 14:04 Good to see australian rallying getting some overseas coverage.
I know a bit about rallying and finally went to rally oz last year. Not sure if I'll be able to go back this year, depends on circumstances which worked really well last year but I doubt they will this year.
Dattos always get a cheer up in queensland..that's why I bought one..well a Nissan :)
Guest is going well. He'll be driving a Hyundai Accent WRC in a few rounds including Australia and one more event in the old F2 Coupe.
Are we able to post info about a rallying job thats available in this forum?
Lee Purnell 9 Jun 2000, 20:51 I don't think so, hang fire for a bit and I will find out for you.
I have a 'Nearly Works' Mk1 Escort that I hope to have ready b4 the end of this season. I ran a Corolla Coupe in some club events a few years ago, which was a heap of fun.
I'm marshalling in Rally New Zealand this year. I'll try & do some words afterwards & tell 'yall about it.
Thanks Lee. I would appreciate that.
Flat^Crest 12 Jun 2000, 16:47 Heading to the Donegal Rally next weekend. Looks like it will be a cracker! Superb entry and stages to match.
Lee Purnell 12 Jun 2000, 22:42 Jadsia, is it a web site that you are talking about?
If it is a web site advertising jobs, then feel free to put it into the "Cool Sites" segment :)
Lee, Its actually a position thats available in a rally team. The details are in the web site, so I think I will post it in the cool sites forum. Cheers
Warwick 15 Jun 2000, 09:46 I'm not actively involed in rallying (apart from changing tyres) but had the opportunity to sit in the passenger seat at two rally sprints, the Ashley rally sprint (Kev will know that one)which is a uphill, downhill windy sort of thing, the fast guys do this track in under a minute, and Mt Thomas which was about 2 minutes now this may not sound very long but if you ever get the chance take it and you will see how hard these guys work.
