A NEW Ten-Tenths F1'97 League

It seems that previous attempts at a league of some sort have failed on the grounds that the rules were inflexible and far too complicated for most of us mere mortals.

Therefore I propose a new league, using the classic F1 '97 (Or F1 Championship Edition as it is also known.)

The rules are simple - that is the whole point. Simple, but FUN.

1: Choose a car/driver to use for the whole season.
2: Races are run on full settings - damage, expert difficulty, flags, failures, variable weather etc...
3: 20 laps each (Would half distance be better?)
4: Do a full qualifying hour.
5: Race the race, recording your finishing position, fastest lap, and, if you won, the win margin. If you retire or are disqualified, note the reason why and the lap you retired on.
6: One race to done per week. Results to be declared as soon as possible afterwards. Results will go to me and I will work out the score. If you can't manage a race for any reason one week, it does not matter. Simply do it asap.

THE RESULTS WILL BE CALCULATED AS FOLLOWS:

The results will be calculated based on who finishes where. If you win the race, you get first place in the Ten-Tenths race. If two people win their race, whoever got the fastest lap takes the Ten-Tenths win and the other takes second AND SO ON. After these positions have been worked out, points will be given as in real life - 10-6-4-3-2-1. There are NO points for qualifying/fastest laps.

And thats it. After all races have been completed (Melbourne through to Jerez) the winner will be declared.

This is open to suggestions/criticisms but can we please not prat around like last time and actually GO RACING!!!!!!!

I'm guessing GR that your little bit of naughtiness was going to point everyone to the site to have been used previously.

However, I feel there was a general consensus that the rules of that league were too complicated and no way flexible enough.

You have to spoil everybody else's fun because you aren't satisfied, I was happy that you had gone but now you are back you are starting to be a right 'Tourist'. I had my application for Forum Host of this forum because of 'our' arguement which I tried to stop and you just kept escalating so that I would be in trouble as well as you. Indeed G-R, if you can't behave then we'll gladly show you the back door. If, on the other hand, you are willing to contribute in a manner more befitting, then of course you are welcome to stay.

I also think it is appropriate to point out know that I am very soon to be the new moderator of this forum - and childish or spoilsport attitudes will not be tolerated.

A question about the league (at the risk of potentially losing myself some points)...

Would it be better to also submit the race time? That way if everybody wins the race it will be a little simpler to see who actually gets the 10 points.

Aim to start the league very soon ie. week beginning on Sunday - late entries will of course be accepted.

I'm sorry Minardi fan, but I can't possibly find the time to join. I do not have that much spare time and a lot of it goes into 10 Tenths.

Is there any ruling on short cuts?
I prefer to race around the actual track but I don't want to submit my time for Melbourne and find that everyone else has taken all the short cuts.

If they are allowed, then fine, just so long as we know.

iv) Retirements - which lap and why

First race: Melbourne. Results to be submitted by MONDAY 17TH JULY - do your best Toth, otherwise don't panic! And remember, new competitors can join at any time.

In F197 flags don't prevent you taking short cuts. All they do is disqualify you when someone drives into the back of you :-)

Also, only the fastest lap of the race is displayed. If this isn't you then we are going to have to keep a note of the lap time each time around, which can be a bit distracting.

NO SHORTCUTS ARE ALLOWED.

Very well. Don't submit your fastest lap, because unless you set the fastest lap of all you won't see it. Good point Wodonnell. Therefore submit your total race time.

Simply add the winner's time to the gap to you.

I would really love to join this series, but I only have F1 2000. Can anyone tell me how I might be able to get a copy of F1'97? How does it compare to F1 2000 in terms of graphics, gameplay, etc.?
1997 was my favorite year of recent F1, before the cars were turned into butt-ugly land rockets with grooved tires. Please, someone help me find a copy.

The F1 97 graphics are not as good, and the incar view in F1 2000 is lovely, but 97 is still a much better game. I dont know where you could buy a copy, but I dont own a copy, I just keep renting the game.

If you live in the UK, F1 '97 is easily available in the shops - it is now a Platinum title at £19.99 and therefore an ABSOLUTE MUST!!!! I still see the PC version in the shops too.

I would suggest PM would work better as that way people will just do their best and submit a time. If we post times it may be tempting for people to cheat (not that anyone here would do that).

PM your results to me. When I have them all, the results will be posted in a new topic.

Remember to submit:

1: Your finishing position
2: Your total race time
3: The fastest lap IF YOU SET IT
4: Which lap you retired on and why.

I have run my first race - perhaps unsurprisingly I plumped for Katayama and the Minardi. Let's just say I THOUGHT I was going to do rather well...

ALSO SUBMIT: Which position you were in when you retired.

I got my dates mixed up. I thought the deadline was Monday so I did my race yesterday. Another surprise result.

I do have the time to race this entire week, but the computer went the way of the undead again. I'll get my broter to bring it back to life next monday but I'll be leaving for vacation on tuesday.

Eh, a long time ago I joined the grid but, eh, I never really raced. Strange things happened and I really feel like a Lavaggi. Have I officially left? Well, if not, I do now. Something is very wrong with the f1 '97 cd, and it takes me a lot of time to get used to my new (but very old) wheel. Besides I never race anyways, just change the setup and do 3 laps of Spa (overtaking, huh, doesn't that cost to much time).

My record at Silverstone is appalling so its not unlikely either (Although MF does need to win it I think)

Don't bank on it, my Silverstone record is also terrible, I usually blow-up.

I was shocked to win France, yet still pleased - even if it was because I was the only one to make it to the finish line!!!

I wonder if there is something in the coding of the game which gives a higher probability of breakdown at your home circuit?

I know that on maybe 3 or 4 occassions I have had a fuel line failure on the straight between Club and Abbey - usually inside the first 3 laps!

sweet, 4th on my debut, wodonnell is looking pretty good for the championship. When is Germany required by.

Generally race results are asap. I've done Germany already, Benz is miles ahead having almost done Monza (!!!), and a few others have done Germany.

One retirement can completely screw up your chances - me thinks by the time we get to Jerez it's going to be very close...

Am I going to regret taking it easy for the last 5 laps?

I had slowed a little over the last 5 laps but not enough to have made a difference.


I did lose concentration a bit after I lapped the 2nd place Ferrari and went off track twice in the last lap or so.

If I had kept it on track it would have been a bit closer.

It was originally one race per week but this changed due to some people not being able to manage it.
