Hello all. I don't know if I should be posting this here, but here goes.
I am in the finishing phase of putting together a Steve Matchett Fanclub website. Heres the address: stevematchettfanclub.com (http://www.stevematchettfanclub.com)
I'm not sure how many users of these forums are from the states, but over here, Steve is part of the broadcast team that covers F1 racing. Last year at Indy, a friend of mine and I decided late Saturday night (after a few pints of beer) to create make-shift signs to wear to the race that said "Steve Matchett Fanclub." The response we got was fun. Most people were like, "who the hell..." but some people knew and showed respect. In the end, a camera crew from Speed Channel (this is the network that carries our F1 coverage) saw us and told us to wait where we were for a few minutes because the broadcast team was coming by there. As it happened, we got to meet Steve and had a nice little chat with him while David Hobbs and Peter Windsor gave us (and Steve) a little razzing. After that, we told everyone that said something to us about the fanclub that there'd be a website coming soon and since that is part of what I do for a living, its finally coming together. The following races and even this year a few times, David has given Steve hell on the air while at the same time mentioning us. Steve is a very modest guy so I think its a little overwhelming for him, but we always have liked what he has to say during races and we think he's done an incredible job. None of the other on-air team seems to know whats going on sometimes, and Steve will tell it like it is. He notices every little thing that happens on the track and in the pits. Drawing on his 8 years actually working with Benneton and being a 2-time world champoinship mechanic, he gives very insightful commentary.
If you could, check out the site and fill out the contact form to tell me what you think (or post something here). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, I'm trying to become a Ten-Tenths forum affiliate so thats why the forum page isn't up yet.
Thanks,
Drew
