We have all heard the comments about Ferrari quiting, and this isnt the first time they have said so. but appartantly, in the 1980's they bulit an Indycar to prove that they would quit- but of course it came to nothing. I was just wondering what happend to the car? did it just get trashed?
i got the info from autosport.com

It would probably be in the Ferrari museum at Maranello

Interesting to read that ferrari Built an Indycar in the 1980's as Lotus did the same thing in 1985.
Wonder how many others did??
It's in the Ferrari Museum indeed. The Ferrari Formula CART, as it was called, was designed and developed by Gustav Brunner. Truesports manager Steve Horne and Bobby Rahal flew down to Maranello, and Rahal and the late Michele Alboreto were the only ones who drove the car.
After Ferrari decided not to continue with the CART program, the V8 turbo Ferrari built was later used by Alfa Romeo when they got into IndyCar, but by then the engine was outdated.

The Lotus 96 is intresting cos it was built in 85, then CART banned all carbon cars for 86 so it couldnt run anyway... does anyone know when all Carbon cars were allowed by CART? I guess it must have been by about 1990 looking at a Lola 90 unclothed.
Indeed Ferrari were upset at the constant battles with FOCA and the FIA and threatened to move to the US and go for a win at Indy with Bobby Rahal. Its kind of a shame they never did becasue they would have obviously come back to F1, but it would have been awesome to have Ferrari also racing in the premier US open wheel series.

I've found some evidence of more than one Ferrari Indy car:

From the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, BTW.

I think it was sometime around '90... Porsche said they wanted to build a carbon tub, so Penske pitched a fit and said he'd build one too... And here you had all these teams using March and Lola customer chassis wondering just what they were supposed to do... So CART put their foot down and said absolutely no... Then let the cars in a year later anyway, after already ****ing off Lotus, Ferrari, Porsche... And possibly McLaren, who occaisonally took a look over the fence at CART during those days.
