OK I know it should be in the cool sites area, but it is really only for historic fans.

The British Pathe News was the forerunner of the TV news and ran in cinema's in the UK up till 1970 or so. They have hundreds of files available for download. 92 on Brooklands alone. It also covers general world history in all area's, hopefully with the 'Oh Boy !... Plummy English Accent'

Whilst there is a charge for a hi res version a low res is available free.

Resurrecting a very old thread, I found some fascinating footage on here yesterday. Use "advanced", set a timeframe then try a keyword ("racing" was pretty good, even if it does include horses, bikes, etc.). You can download small, water-marked clips for free.

I found a dozen useful clips on my particular search:
- The first Cooper streamliner at Monthlery
- The Cooper Race School at Brands
- The first mainland, post-war race meeting at Gransden Lodge
- a genius piece, entitled "Brands Hatch" of the 1950 Ladies Race in F3s (with a marvelously patronising voiceover).

Interface can get a bit clunky, especially when you move to download the files in your basket, but well worth it

If you seach Le Mans (or other races TT etc) as the 'keyword' you get a treasure trove of clips.

I could spend hours on this site.
