F1FansClub 8 Aug 2000, 14:08 What would it be then? Try to leave Ferrari's and McLaren F1's out please as we all know we would like one of them! :)
My choice would either be the Grinnal Scorpion - the three wheeler from Toca 2 or the Campagna T-Rex. See picture.
http://www.execpc.com/~pctths/img85.gif
So what would be yours?
Ally Mitchell
That Chrysler prototype based on the Bugatti T57, or just a T57 - beautiful car. For something to drag around a track - Mclaren M23 or Lotus 72.
Dream car.... other than an exotic we are all lusting after.
http://www.roybriziohotrods.com/Roysn32.jpg
I saw this Roy Brizio 1932 Ford Hiboy roadster on this weekends NHRA broadcast and fell in love. The paint has so many layers of pearl in it it changes colors while the car sits still. Lovely.

... you really had to ask?
The four-and-a-half litre Bentley.
The king of all motor cars, the knight of all the road, the machine for which all others reverently stand aside.
When a fellow is young, he seeks the fastest of dalliances, and his head is easily turned by the shallowest of appearance. But as maturity develops, he finds he needs something a little more lasting, more substantial. A companion that will see him through all that life can cast at him.
And what better? The bright headlights, to guide me on my way, the soft leather of the seats within the hand crafted structure of the car, the powerful workmanlike engine which will take me swiftly to wherever I should wish to go, and what else?
The winged "B", atop the gleaming radiator like a tiara, announcing that I am aboard the ONLY way to travel.
I will concede that there are other makes of car, but they are as nothing compared to the vintage Bentley, whose reputation stands above all, unsullied, indomitable, unrivalled and shall be for as long as there is petrol, and for evermore.
TimD
(exhibiting absolutely no bias whatsoever...)
The above image, by the way, was found on Stanley Mann's website, where that particular car is for sale, at around a quarter of a million quid....
...I'm just off to rob a bank.
Minardi fan 8 Aug 2000, 16:10 No no no... THIS is a beautiful car...
http://www.geocities.com/minardi_fan/Minardi2.JPG
MichaelC 8 Aug 2000, 17:04 Well if we're not allowed to talk about any red italian cars, I guess I'd have to vote for the original AC Cobra.
Basically any cabriolet with a nice sporty engine. A Mercedes SLK would do nicely. Who was that I heard calling me a poser??
well there is 2 that I want.
the first is a 1987 or 88 Holden VL Commodore Group A Walkinshaw special..lervly
http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/CSainty/pics/vkvl3.jpg
or the updated version ..2000 style
http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/CSainty/pics/vt45.jpg
or the lovely racing version
http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/CSainty/pics/v860.jpg
ohhh to dream :)

87 VL Commodore.

or the racing version
http://www.zyworld.com/karma_racing/v860.jpg
sorry :)
Ralf's Girl 8 Aug 2000, 19:34 I wouldn't mind a BMW Z3...or an M5...but not a Z8.
Minardi fan - couldn't you find a picture of this year's car???
Sorry Tim, the Bentley is good but the only way to travel is...
http://www.archive.vintageweb.net/italiano/alfa2.jpg
Yes, it is Italian, but its neither red nor a Ferrari!
fatbloke 8 Aug 2000, 22:53 Very boring, but an M3 convertible will do me nicely thanks... :) Or, as I can't afford that, a VW Corrado VR6 (then again, couldn't afford the insurance on that...!! :()
Crash Test 9 Aug 2000, 00:26 Well there's the ever popular...
http://www.uq.net.au/~zzgwalke/rcp/5.jpg
or the ever yummy Alfa..
http://www.life.com.au/images/ric2.jpg
or the very nice looking..
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/9129/76.jpg
;)
For a dream road car, how could you go past a Duesenberg SJN?
I'm going to split a few hairs and stick to my beloved Ferrari Dino - it's "not really" a Ferrari and a lot of the snobby people in Monte Carlo won't let it park in their parking lots ... but it is my car and I love it.
Or of course my Lamborghini, if I ever get it out of the pool. :)
Liz, my dear, the Lambo's dead. The engine's full of chlorine, I knicked the wiper blades, and I think Maisie has the wheels on her Maestro... ;)
Me, I'm easily pleased...
http://www.willej.webprovider.com/esk2/114.jpg
*Sigh*
Fortunately my midnight blue Lamborghini is parked at my New Secret Location, and only Vito and Zonta and Gerard know where that is! :)
Well you did say dream car right?
So I think I choose a Brand new "Jaguar E type F1, Convertable" with a V10 Cosworth engine, a rev limiter set at 15,000. This model also has paddle gear shift, semi auto. seven speed transmission, traction control, 4 wheel steering, ABS, 18" wheels and Sandra Bullock in the passenger seat:)(Good news..she's with me;))
Ian
Crash Test 9 Aug 2000, 08:23 Bad news: she's a cardboard cut out...oh shyte, sorry:)
Minardi fan 9 Aug 2000, 16:08 Oooooh, we haven't had a Lambo joke in aaaaages...
Steph, if you want this year's GORGEOUS M02, here ya go:
http://www.geocities.com/minardi_fan/diapo_10.jpg
But last year's car was nicer. Last year's car was BEAUTIFUL.
:)
Maestros and wheels are a touchy subject right now:
http://www.fullthrottle.co.uk/ouch1.jpg
Current "shopping list" (apart from Maestro spares!!) consists of:
Vanden Plas 1500 (Allegro shape)
Austin A35
Maestro (Tandy converstion) camper van
Just about anything else nice will do, but on the classic rather than sporty side. Oh, and a huuuge garage to put them all in. I won't let the Maestro go though, even though it does have suicidal tendencies at the moment.
Ouch! Two strips of automotive Bandaid! Stat!!
Hexie's wheels are indeed, hexagonal... :(
Sorry Maisie. I hope she's fixed (and better than new) soon. :)

This year's sort of resembles a Jordan (I can't tell the two apart from a distance). Both are doing pretty badly...(I am so, so sorry, Minardi fan)
I'd quite happily settle for any Jag, but especially one that looks like this.
http://www.btinternet.com/~uwg4/pics/31.jpg
or this
http://www.btinternet.com/~uwg4/pics/11.jpg
As it is I think the nearest I'm ever likely to get is if I ever find myself working in a museum that has one in its collection;)
You never know Carrie, top notch Mk2 Jags only go for new Mondeo money, and if you factor in deprciation running costs shouldn't be too different either.
Me, I'll just have to wait and inherit my Dad's (Mk2 Jag that is, not the Alfa I've mentioned earlier in this thread, mores the pity).
ganda123 9 Aug 2000, 22:31 I would just love an e-type Jag, one of the first ones made, as they're the prettiest.
I don't like Fords, but with one exception: the GT40...
A Volvo S40 touring car (preferably '98 version), a Ferrari Daytona or 355 Spider, A Lotus Elise or a TVR would go down very nicely too.
I am also very attached to Triumph Stags as we have one...lovely cars that are affordable.
Mmmm... Mk2 Jag :) I'll refrain from posting a pic of the mashed one from Oulton Park at the weekend.
Hexie (who's a "he" by the way, Sparky) is doing fine. I've found out today that he's up and running, but on a hastily welded steering rack, so I need to get a replacement one tomorrow. Soon as that's fixed, he can scuttle down the road to that nice man with the spray gun and get his skin graft done. Anyone want to come and inspect the little blighter at Tatton Park on Sat 19th??
How much is Tatton, do you know?
<http://www.highway-one.com/Dino.html>
I can't post pictures (don't know how and probably can't learn) but that's where my dream car is.
A certain Mr. Alesi's got what I want: Didier Auriol's 1992 Corsica Rally winning Delta Integrale. A beautiful yellow Dino is also in his collection (well, Kumiko's, anyway)...
elephino 10 Aug 2000, 13:40 I never could answer this question. Just too many cars to choose from.
Putting a limitation on a car I might be able to afford one day, I'd say a BMW M3.
Minardi fan 10 Aug 2000, 14:32 Don't worry Steph - Ralf's hardly been much good the past few races now has he???
;)

That wasn't very nice now, was it???
Not his fault! None of it is his fault. When it is, I will admit to it...
Here's Liz' car.
http://www.highway-one.com/Images/Photos/Dino.jpg
My dream car is a Bizzarrini GT Strada 5300.
Thanks, Gerard. That's my baby!
Bother! This should have been a Bizzarrini Strada for Gerard, but the link didn't work.
I'll try to find another one.
The site I got this from is in German, but I'm sure this is the GT...
http://www.tuttobene.ch/vehicles_fahrzeuge/bizzarrini/bizzarrini_gt_1.jpg
Well, I don't know if it's the right one, but it's the same model that I was trying to post. Only yours looks better in black than the white one I found!
I found red ones too!
BTW, I'm not sure about the driver of this one - his parking methods leave a little to be desired!!
It's lovely in black, though. Sound choice gerard!
Yep, that's the one, although I prefer it to be red.
It's a car designed by Giotto Bizzarrini who did a lot of design work for Alfa, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Iso.
His first car was a Iso Grifo A3C Berlinette which raced at Le Mans in 1964.
From 1965 on it was sold as the Bizzarini GT Strada 5300.
It has a 5354 cc 8-cilinder V engine from the Chevrolet Corvette with 348 horsepowers.
Topspeed is 171 mph/248 kmh.
Shame it's a bit pricey though.
I could get a pretty good Dino for around $25,000 but it's got some really sloppy restoration work done on it in the left rear quarter, and something is wrong with the paint.
Since I couldn't drive it anyway, I suppose I will not buy that one.... but I wish people would not restore things if they don't know what they are doing.
...but I wish people would not restore things if they don't know what they are doing.
You been reading my memoirs, Liz? It tends to double the price of any major repair if some Herbert has been there first. You have to 'undo' the work, before you can do the work.
Aside from the dearly departed Lamborghini Jota (my dreams include time travel) or just-as-gorgeous Miura, and the obligatory TVR Grantura Mk3a or Vixen Series 4, I would have to say either a road-legal Mini flatbed with a DFV in the back, or a Lancia Delta S4 (again road-legal is poss).
Danielsun 12 Aug 2000, 22:48 I'm going to take everyone by surprise here and nominate...
Do I really even need to say it, Craig and Invader? ;)
SIERRA!! Of the Cosworth variety, naturally. As I'm not totally fussy, it can be a 'normal' Cossie, but an RS500 would be the ultimate. Also from the Ford (Gasp!! It's okay, they're the only two I like!) clan, the Escort RS2000 - with the big wing, obviously.
From other makers, I'll nominate a couple from home: Calais International with those gorgeous 16" chromed wheels and - the pride of Australia - the HSV GTS 300. Vette engine in a Commodore. Wow!!
There's only really two Italians I'd want (other than Ferrari's 360 Modena): Maserati 3200GT and - a common one, apparently - Delta Integrale. As they say, it's the Holy Grale...
And from Germany, it'd have to be an Audi S4 - in the metallic blue they do. Best looking car in the world. On a less dreamy level, I'd love a current shape Laguna and an Astra. Doesn't need to be like Smokin' Jo's, but that wouldn't be bad...;)
I know you said that we can't say it, but above all else is an F1. How could I refuse one if someone offered it?
Ralf's Girl 12 Aug 2000, 22:58 So who's offering???? Hehehe...anyone want to give Danielsun a car???
I really wouldn't mind one these in which to do the shopping...

Danielsun 13 Aug 2000, 11:25 I'd tend to also agree with Ganda's comments about the S40 Touring Car. Yes, the 1998 one would be the best of them, but I was kind of partial to the '97 paint work on the car. So gimme a '98 car with '97 stickers!
And I want a Texaco Sierra, just in case anyone was wondering which colour I'd choose...
F1FansClub 13 Aug 2000, 12:44 We did say 'Your Dream Car' :) Would you just taxi the plane everywhere?
Ally :)
Isn't 'car' short for 'carriage'? I'm working on that assumption... ;)
A plane is a kind of carriage, and hell no, I'd VTOL it straight into a parking spot in Tescos!! :)
Ralf's Girl 13 Aug 2000, 16:49 I found something I'd like to be the proud owner of on the BMW website. A C1. Those of you watched the Monaco GP on ITV will have seen Jenson Button and Gerhard Berger driving round on them. I saw two on holiday in Italy, and I wouldn't mind one of those (but I'll settle for a Z3...).
Danielsun 13 Aug 2000, 17:45 Oh dear. You are a strange little girl, aren't you?:p
Ralf's Girl 13 Aug 2000, 17:52 Who, moi???
Just send over Gerhard Berger.

elephino 17 Aug 2000, 13:16 Finally a Volvo :) Two even :) :)
OK, I'll weigh in now wit a TRUE "dream" car -
1000+ HP
Seats 4 easily
100+ MPG
Rides like a Caddy, handles like an F1 car
Looks like a Ferrari P4
Washes & vacumes itself
Never needs repair
Costs $1 to insure
Well, you DID say DREAM car !!!!
A real dream car is one that comes with a Brazilian or European chauffeur so I never have to look for a parking place or try to read road signs...just tie a scarf over my hair and put on my shades and enjoy the flight!
He couldn't be a big guy either because the Dino is very small.
Ronj Schryer 18 Aug 2000, 02:01 All of you are revealing your ages--young enough to dream (great) but not old enough to know what to dream about.
I admit that picking a dream car would be great if not impossible because i could not shorten the list to fit this screen.
When I dream about cars and the great and not so great ones I have owned or driven my thoughts come back to the following:
Had the pleasure one time of driving a letter series Chrysler (C i think) absolute-no holds barred-testosterone machine. Nothing like it since to scare the **** out of me.
had one particular Datsun 510 (out of about 30 or so that I have owned)that stands out above all others.I raced it for a couple of years as a production sedan, then converted it to a fully caged/reinforced/all out Rally car. Spent a few years beating the poor thing to death (including P.O.R. twice) rolling it on at least 7 different occasions and still could not kill it. Finally one day a guy came into the shop and offered me more money for it than it sold for new- I knew about 30 seconds after he pulled away that I did the wrong thing---never saw the car again (sniff-sniff)
Still own--sitting out back, quietly rusting away in dignified retirement--one car that you will all laugh at and shake your heads knowing old Ron has finally lost it. But let me explain---It had a sturdy trailer hitch and all my tools and spares could be crammed inside. I would hook the trailer with the race-later rally -then other race cars to the old beast, cruise the Trans-Canada hwy in the passing lane with the air conditioning on full listening to CBC ,sitting in a seat that actually fit my size 9 ass and get wherever i wanted -no question. There is something to be said for success. 1976 AMC Pacer-the only only one i have ever seen with manual steering and manual transmission.
If dreams are the criteria though i would surely like to have a Porche 550 with Carrera engine(with roller crank). Worked on one once when I was an apprentice in a Porche/VW shop. Spent a week on a training course on the Carrera engine--fell in love
ahh well dreams sigh RON
ne I have ever seen with manual steering and manual transmission.
Well if I can't have a ferrari it's gonna be a marcos
Anyone.
This 1969 GT would be nice. And if I work hard and don't eat for 5 years I might even afford it
http://c-wizards.netgate.net/marcos.jpg
Or if I get really lucky I might one day touch one of these. A 600 LM, OH MY GOD I'M GONNA WET MYSELF!

DAVID PATERSON 19 Aug 2000, 04:07 I think Marcus has picked very well, I like Crash Test's 1st choice too. :) Everybody who's ever owned a Datsun 510 will nod in agreement with Ron's post. Great litle car that just keeps going and going!!! :) :D As a child my dream car was always a Lamborghini Countach, now I want a VT Commodore V8 Supercar and a BMW 320i Super Tourer.
We have talked about the car we drive the first one we had, now, which is the car you want, that you always see on your dreams, the one you want to have on your garage. As for me, I´ve always wanted to have a Mercedes 300SL, I just love it, it´s so beautiful, it has it all, class, power, oh yes I would love to have it, going through the highway, shifting, ah...., but I also like the moderns automobiles, specially the SLK 230 kompressor, it is not the best car nowdays, but I just love it. So what car is your dream one?.
Redneck 27 Oct 2000, 19:11 Anything that is red with the prancing horse on it.
Ferrari Dino. Blue. And no dodgy bodywork or "restoration' by aliens with blowtorches.
Bluebottle 28 Oct 2000, 01:17 I want Professer Pat Pending's 'Convertacar'
Actually, I quite fancy the new Spyker, as seen at the motor show last week- mmm, big and shiney and roofless -mmmm.....
Well....I would say that my #1 dream car would be the...Ferrari 360 Modena. I know you guys must think "But the 550 maranello is way better" but there's just something about that car that....maybe it's the F1 shifting.
My #2 would be the BMW M5. I just love it. It looks just like any regular car with big wheels.....but when the light goes red everybody will learn that beneath the hood there are 400Hp.
On a more "realistic" view....perhaps the Peugeot 306Xsi, Seat Ibiza Cupra 2 or a first generation BMW M3.
BTW...all of the above cars must be black.
elephino 28 Oct 2000, 08:08 My dream car to own would probably be a BMW M3. Might as well be an E46, but I'd be happy with the older one.
i want a 1988-1990 bmw m325i. french registered, black, black interior, 2 doors (ok, maybe 4).
yes, that's right, how did you know my mum wrote that one off? i want our old car back.
or maybe one of those ferrari barchetta thingys they had at the london motor show this week, and that are all sold out. they look hot.
or a black porsche boxster for running around town in....
AMoffat 28 Oct 2000, 10:44 Elephino,
Good choice with the M3, my tastes are pedestrian compared to some of the above, so for the price of one new Ferrari I would have:
The M3 (three years old - second hand)
A Honda S2000 (not sure I'd fit though)
A BMW 1200RS for the longer trips and a Aprilia RSVR 1000 for the shorter ones.
I could still have $150,000 left for entertainment expenses.
Billy_Hunt 28 Oct 2000, 20:05 Porsche 911 turbo .....
Anything coming from Zuffenhausen, from the older 356s to the newest Boxsters, and above all any of the 911s.
If Carrie, Craig and Danielsun had any doubts as to the intensity of my affliction, then the Motor Show will surely have put them to rest.
Bluebottle already knows that I am beyond help.
To my delight, the organisers of the classic cars section of the show chose to display one of the truly great cars. A car I have literally dreamed of driving, a car I am determined to own, or at least one very like it.
A 1929 4.5 litre, open touring Bentley. This one was in green. Perhaps out of preference mine would be black, with red leather upholstery.
The vintage Bentley is the king of the road. Majestic. Regal. Elegant. Refined. Enduring. Fast. Very, very fast - for a two-ton car with 70-year old brakes.
The only reason that I was coaxed away from the Bentley to see the rest of the show, was the knowledge that this is the only year that the year 2001 models were on display. In seventy years time, they will all be iron oxide. In seventy years time, that Bentley will still be running, still holding her own against any piece of modern tin that the industry chooses to pit against her.
There may be faster cars. There may be more comfortable ones. But none of them have the winged "B" piercing the slipstream. I will not be truly happy until there is a Bentley in my stable.
A Renault R5 turbo, Bizarre and just a little bit anti-social.
I always had a fondness for the Volvo P1800 coupe from the sixties, elegant and sturdy, its the Isabella Roselini of cars: arty and stylish Italian father, elegant and serious Swedish mother.
MichaelC 30 Oct 2000, 15:35 Everyone wants a Ferrari, me included. Any Ferrari, just so long as it's red or black - the yellow ones are awful to look at.
However, I'd really really really, in a come-on-parents-it's-nearly-Christmas kind of way, like an original AC Cobra. None of this replica rubbish. Yes I know the replicas are faster than the originals, but speed isn't everything.
Please Please Please Please Please. I've been really good this year (most of the time ;))
Of course my dream car is the Ferrari 250 GTO.
Jess G. Pourret wrote the following in the book "Ferrari 250 GTO":
A puncture in a rear tire is a real nuisance, as the car can only carry a front wheel as a spare. The turning circle is hopeless. The exhaust may destroy your hearing and also itself if you're not careful, as it hangs very low. When it's raining hard you will wish you had good old drum brakes. The alloy bodywork is so thin that high flying pigeons should be avoided. Shoes must be chosen carefully if you want to use one pedal at a time, and physically feel what's going on under your feet.
But I don't care, just look at it, it's the most beautifull thing on earth.
