Don Vito 9 Apr 2003, 22:01 my vote for this one
http://www.okraft.nu/modsport/images/bilder_staffans_piper.jpg
Edit: Made it a url due to size.
Chris Townsend 9 Apr 2003, 23:15 Compared to the Dulon LD8 [early '70s F5000] it's a thing of beauty.
The LD8 had all the aerodynamic properties of a house brick. And the thing was so big that every picture of it is probably saved as a URL...
The Lola T190/192 wasn't far behind in terms of looks, if far ahead in terms of lap times.
Also, the Eiserts that raced in the USA in the early '70s.
Lee Janotta 10 Apr 2003, 01:20 No idea what this is, but it sure is ugly!

AllonFS 10 Apr 2003, 09:07 Lee, the car you nominate started life as a Triumph Herald. Quite well known 60s car in the UK, it is meant to have had one of the tightest turning circles ever. Although I doubt the one in your picture makes great use of that particular feature. :)
Peter Mallett 10 Apr 2003, 09:19 What about the original "ugly duckling" Marcos?
A plywood car raced to good effect by JYS in the early sixties.

Ner. Messy, untidy, but not reallyUGLY
Nice picture though
PaulSands 10 Apr 2003, 19:23 Its a wonderful site...not that easily navigated, a lot seems hidden away, but some classic pics

Here is one of those URLs of the Dulon LD8 so you can make your own mind up.

The Lola T190 wasn't that bad...This is Welshman Davey Powell.
Beauty (or ugliness) is in the eye of the beholder. I think the Chaparral 2G is great looking, although the '68 version looked a bit ridiculous on skinny rain tyres with those huge rear wheel spats.
Now if you want a Chaparral to compete in the ugly stakes (no, not the 2J), how about the 2H when it was fitted with this subtle wing? Forgot which site I took this from, but acknowledgements to them anyway.
flatlander_48 13 Apr 2003, 13:06 I remember one picture of the 2H at a race. They were torquing one of the nuts on one of the wheels with what must have been an 8 foot torque wrench. I've never seen one that big!!
Anyway, one car that gets my vote would be the Porsche 917 that ran at Le Mans that had the pink paint scheme. It had black lines over it to emulate how you would slaughter a pig. MAJOR UGLY...
Maybe ugly, but fantastic!!
There are so many, but today my vote goes to the 1953 Le Mans (actually, there were several REALLY ugly cars at that race) Bristol 450 coupe. They improved it later, but the '53 car was SOOO ugly. Anyone got a piccy of it they put up on here!?
PaulSands 17 Apr 2003, 08:12 no offence intended to a great racing heritage but if truth be told I really really REALLY dislike most Clubmans :(
Peter Mallett 17 Apr 2003, 08:20 Good job Tony Harman doesn't come here then. ;)

That's the only ugly Chapparral I've ever seen. Makes me want to puke. I thought the Pink Pig 917 was funny.
Yes, it shows that Porsche had a sense of humour! Not Martini though; they refused to have anything to do with it!
Richy_Rich 23 Apr 2003, 13:22 Lee, that picture of yours was a triumph herald, I think...
gttouring 23 Apr 2003, 14:52 yep the 2h might win the day although www.modifieds.com might lead you to ugly yet functional attrocities.
Vitesse 26 Apr 2003, 22:30 Gotta be the Chevron B18 - especially from this angle!
