DAVID PATERSON 19 Aug 2000, 12:11 OK so we've had this one before, but it got dumped with the changeover and a lot of new members haven't seen it, let alone had a chance to reply, so here we go again. You've got a money tree growing in your backyard and you can buy any racecar you like and do any series you like, cost no object. What will it be?
To get things started here are my choices, I can't narrow it down to just one. :)
1. Buy a HRT VT and do the Lites series and the QLD 500 and Bathurst.
2. Buy Paul Morris's '97 ASTC winning BMW and do the ASTC.
3. Buy a '99 Primera and do the BTCC.
I would buy 3 VT commodores and run 2 in the shell series and one in the lites series..probably a super tourer as well for the aussie series..but I would buy a lovely Formula holden for myself to get to my funeral just that bit quicker.
as for drivers
shell series..nathan Pretty and david Brabham
and I would put a young guy in the lites car ..say Alan Gurr or someone like that and leave the super tourer and F holden for myself..or I may go silly in the lites series ..ohhh bugger it I would buy HRT :):)
BMWRacerITS 22 Aug 2000, 06:25 Hmmm...this is too hard to choose just one!
1) Australian Touring Car...E46 (new body style) BMW 320.
2) ALMS/LeMans GT class...PTG E46 BMW M3, give those P-car GT3-R's some competition. :)
3) Speedvision GT World Challenge Series...Acura NSX (I still LOVE those cars) or a Ferrari 360 (no paddle shifter for me, thanks, I like to heel&toe).
As for drivers...HA, if I had these cars, there's not a chance that anyone would be driving them but ME! For the LeMans race, I'd have to get a couple buddies, who are tire testers/engineers for Michelin to help me with the driving. They just won the One Lap of America this year in a basically stock Viper <http://www.onelapofamerica.com> Rumor is, they have been a few seconds quicker than the factory drivers for the Team ORECA Vipers during tire testing!!
Crash Test 22 Aug 2000, 06:45 1. Datsun 1600 Historic Racer
2. Indy 500 thing (they're all the same these days, aren't they?)
3. Taurus in the Winston Cup.
4. Williams F1 car
5. Au Falcon V8 Supercar
DAVID PATERSON 26 Aug 2000, 13:57 Jeez, Mark you started off so well, then it all fell away horribly.
Crash Test 26 Aug 2000, 14:33 Sorry, i dont know what i was smoking...
1.Datsun 1600 Historic racer
2.Datsun 1600 Club Car
3.Datsun 1600 Sport Sedan
4.Datsun 1600 GTP car
5.Datsun 1600 Super Tourer
6.Datsun 1600 LSR Rocket car
;)
DAVID PATERSON 27 Aug 2000, 07:22 I didn't know Franklin was into Datsun 1600s. :)
Crash Test 27 Aug 2000, 12:29 I'm sure he would if it were powered by a perpetual motion engine, had an anti-gravity parachute, and an ejector seat powered by thought power;)
are they optional extras ????
Crash Test 28 Aug 2000, 08:35 Factory add ons, go the mighty Datsun!!
Warwick 29 Aug 2000, 00:13 1 Begg F5000 for Historic racing
2 Any old Nascar with a 426 hemi, stuffed if i know where i'd race it though.
3 6 wheel Tyrell F1 car,and race it wherever its eligible.
DAVID PATERSON 29 Aug 2000, 03:00 But if Franklin's ejector seat ran on thought power, surely it would be inoperative. :)
Crash Test 29 Aug 2000, 06:17 Viiiishhhhhhhhooouuusss!!;)
DAVID PATERSON 29 Nov 2000, 11:45 I'm bringing this one back to the top so our pommy friends can share their dreams with us orhammer on about Cologne Capris. :)
DAVID PATERSON 11 Jun 2001, 10:20 The Mallet is silent perhaps? :)
Well it's 10 months since i posted this and nothings really changed for me. Though Super Touring has died in the arse, so i have to go with a VT commodore for the Konica series. Oh well, perhaps I should buy a lottery ticket.
RickP:Clio51 13 Jun 2001, 16:15 I guess for me I'd need just the 3 race cars (not as greedy as the bloke wanting 5 Datsuns...)
1. 911 SuperCup to run in the European GrandPrix Support Races
2. M3 GT V8 to run in the ALMS and Le Mans
3. Astra or Lexus to run in the BTC-Touring
Cheers
RickP
Geez, I like the look of this thread. And I haven't seen it before. What to choose ......
I'd buy -
1) A Reynard / Honda or Lola / Ford Champ Car
2) Any f1 car
3) The new Bentley Le Mans challenger
4) A current model fford, f3 or f3000 / fholden
5) A Peugeot 206 WRC
6) A Holden VT Commodore V8 supercar
7) An Alfa 147 for the BTCC (it just looks good).
8) A Ferrari 360 for Nations Cup.
9) A stripped out, worked over Maserati 3200GT also for Nations Cup.
10) I'd create my own WRC or Le Mans car with assistance from a factory outfit.
Ha! I'm going to take over the world of motorsport!
If I were to get the money today .... well as my only racing experience is in karts, I'd have to say I would buy a current model fford, and maybe a current model f3 for a year or two down the track.
Peter Mallett 14 Jun 2001, 14:18 I've looked at this thread loads of times and to be honest I love racing my Capri. Hopefully it will be improved after its (naerly) year off.
However. I have considered other cars and I really think it has to be something Historic. Either a GT or Sportscar so my first choice of that category would be a Ferrari 250 GT SWB in REd.
Following that with an Aston Martin DB4 GT (not the Zagato which I adore but is impractical for racing).;)
Following the advice of Mr Patterson I will post my dreams here.
I would love to run in a number of categories,
Firstly, the ultimate dream, to drive a McLaren F1.
I would love to campaign a Shell Series Ford or Holden (I'm not picky).
I would like to run a Mazda RX7 Series 6 with a 20B engine in the Nations Cup championship. I love my RX7s.
I would love to run in formula 3 and Formula Holden. I am dying to race an open wheeler, I think it would rock my world.
I would also like to race in the Konica Series, just for extra practice inbetween my other events.
Am I really asking that much, geez!!! :rotate:
twin 40's 18 Jun 2001, 18:48 £110,000 for the Ferrari 355(?) challenge. and get to keep the car.
BTCC
ALMS
British F3.
but if it was do anything, I would give either Mr Wilson or Mr Peugot Sport a call and get me a latest specification World rally car and a proper works style season to go.
DAVID PATERSON 6 Jun 2002, 14:17 Another year gone and I still have the same dream, a VT Commodore to do the Konica series and the Bathurst 1000.
hmmmm.....
1. Get a 1986 Williams Honda F1 car (Turbo car with no restrictions) and race it somewhere, wherever it is eligible these days.
2. Dallara Chevy for IRL
3. Alfa 156 GTA for the ETCC
4. Holden Monaro for Nations Cup
5. Opel Astra for DTM
6. Audi R8 for Le Mans 24 Hours and ALMS
7. ok, i'll have to put it in, a Holden Commodore V8SC
bart_jacobs 16 Jun 2002, 21:33 I'd buy a Lola B2/50 F3000 car...
lets see...
1. The MG BTCC Car, and race that in (guess what) the BTCC
2. A Chev Monte Carlo for NASCAR
3. An Astra for the DTM
4. A JGTC Supra, for it.
5. An Evo IV, for curcuit racing and rally (better make that 2 evo IVs :D)
I love dreaming...
HMMMMMRMM DREAMS EHH!!!!!!
Lola/MG for ALMS and LE MANS
PORCHE 956 Historic group C
C5R Vette for FIA GT
Honda NSX for All Japan GT
Lotus 72 for Thoroughbread GP
Williams FW 14 Euro Boss
Think I had better stop now before I wake up and spoil it all.
