Digital Compact 4m or 5m

Looking for a Digital compact and want to know how many megapixels do you need for sharp A4 and possibly larger prints.

Get as many megapixcels as you can afford, the greater the number the more information you'll have in the picture.

I'd advise that you try handling several cameras so you find the one that feels right in your hands, all the major manufacturers produce good equipment, you just need to find the camera that feels "right" for you.

i use an olympas 5 mp but to save memory at a race track i always set it at lower. on average i get 65-70 photos on a 64mb memory card. Go for a camera with a decent zoom avoid digital zoom though there very grainy!

What do you mean A4 prints? If your want to use your office postscript pinter, you will print using 65-70 lpi. Your bitmap should be at a resolution no less than 1.5 x lpi (98 dpi) and no larger than 2.5 x lpi (163 dpi in our case). If you plan to send the photos to a proffesional printing service, they are able to print at 150 lpi or more, so better resolutions are required (350 dpi or more) 5M pixels will print an A4 at 120 lpi, which is pretty good.

I am going to the CART race in Toronto this year, like I do almost every year. I'm interested in buying a digital camera to take some pictures of the race cars and then put them on my computer. I don't no anything about digital cameras! I can't emphasize the word "anything" enough. At deepthrottle.com they were saying that you should use a digital camera with a optical zoom. I would like to get some pictures of the cars at slow....but preferably race speeds. Do you guys have any suggestions? 2MP digital camera W/3X optical zoom?....3MP digital camera W/3X optical zoom?....4MP digital camera W/3X optical zoom? I would like to take as many pictures as possible without sacrificing the quality of the picture. Thanks Guys.
