From 2001 F3 will run 2 x 20 mins races instead of the current one 30 min race.

Any thoughts - sounds a bit pants to me, 20 minute races are too short.

I agree totally, something like one 45 min race would be better, it might teach the drivers something about conserving tyres etc.

Two 20min sprints will make the races as short as Formula Renault, that can't be progress.

I don't think it's any good for the drivers.. it'll be a big step up to F3000. It's just there to make better telly I guess, F3 doesn't have exciting racing all the time (but I'd rather watch F3 than BTCC any time) - so now you double the starts!!! But as that's where most of the accidents occur, it'll increase costs for the drivers.. And there'll be less chance to make up positions if a mistake is made..

This is what the press release said . . . .

"Extended PowerTour programme for 2001

PowerTour events are set to feature additional races in 2001, with seven or eight races now likely on Feature Race Day following confirmation that the Green Flag British F3 Championship will have a double-header race at each round.

"We have listened to comments from race fans and, whilst remaining true to the original concept of an audience-friendly show, expect to have seven or eight races on the programme in 2001," says series director Roger Etcell. Currently, PowerTour events feature six races as three support races run alongside the hero championships of British F3, British GT and National Saloons. In 2001, the addition of an extra F3 race and possibly one more support race will extend the programme. It is currently expected that the opening F3 race will kick off the racing programme.

"Just as in 2000, we will start the day with an open paddock and pit road walkabout for the audience, followed by the PowerTour opening ceremony. We then expect racing to start before noon and finish with the awards ceremony at 5.30pm. In making these changes, we hope to meet the needs of the enthusiasts whilst retaining a concept that will appeal to the first-time spectator and the families," says Etcell.

The extended support race programme is subject to suitable championships being confirmed as part of PowerTour and more details will be announced in due course.-ends-

People are listening to what race fans say . . . This forum is what people read and the organisers do read it. Keep it up folks :)
