bacon sandwich 21 Jul 2003, 00:44 I don't believe it - I am assuming this is the David Heynes who was heavily involved in Aston Martins and use to race at the AMOC meetings. This is awful news. My condolences to all his family and my thoughts with the marshals, rescue and medical teams who I am sure did their very best as always.

From Club I had no idea that this had happened until this morning when I checked the internet, so obviously very shocked & stunned. You don't expect that at a GP meeting, and given the way that the historic race had progressed I had thought that it was a good hard fought race without serious incident.
Sincere condolences to family & friends.

Joe Twyman 21 Jul 2003, 10:28 Very shocking, my father was in the race and word in the paddock after and (I think) a statement from the MSA suggested that he had a heart attack which caused the car to crash in the way it did. Thoughts are with his family..
Richard Sneader 21 Jul 2003, 10:35 From all Marshals worldwide our thoughts go out to all of David Heynes family and friends.

jetsetter 21 Jul 2003, 10:57 This is sad news & a tragic way to end the weekend, my condolences go to his family & friends.
PaulSands 21 Jul 2003, 11:13 Was this race run in particularly hot conditions...I heard that Frank Sytner had to be taken to hospital, after collapsing on the podium suffering from, dehydration..is that correct?
If so could this have played a contributing factor to this tragedy?
Pilgrimage 21 Jul 2003, 13:02 I echo the above sentiments.
FYI: It was hot, but I don't think it was that hot.
Aysedasi 21 Jul 2003, 14:15 As there is now an official RIP thread for poor David in the Tributes forum, I'm closing this one and sending it along for the mods to merge there.
PaulSands 21 Jul 2003, 14:17 would this be better for discussion of the implications and causes rather than take up space on the RIP thread?
It appears the driver suffered a heart attack. you cant take into account something like that happening, just lucky his car didn't collect anyone else.
Aysedasi 21 Jul 2003, 14:22 I've no idea what the implications are or the causes were. If there is something arising out of it which is relevant either to Sportscars or to Historic Racing, I guess there is no problem with that, but as a straight tribute/condolence (which is what it has largely been thus far), I think it's in the right place.
PaulSands 21 Jul 2003, 14:23 I'll trust your judgement
the18racer 21 Jul 2003, 16:24 Sad news indeed. My condolences to family and friends, especially all at Legends Racing.
It is does appear that the driver had a heart attack.
My condoleances to the family. It was a very sad end to an otherwise good weekend.
James Elder 21 Jul 2003, 18:33 My father and I have known David since his days in the AMOC. Very much a gentleman driver who will be sadly missed.
Condolences to his family.
Steve and James Elder.
John Turner 21 Jul 2003, 19:17 I, too, had seen David race often in AMOC meetings. A very sad loss - condolences to all members of his family.
b1ackcr0w 21 Jul 2003, 20:33 I've spent many happy hours marshalling HSCC races, to hear of this loss amogst their ranks is very sad. Sincere condolences to all his friends and family.
I send my condolences to family but also to the team.
I was a marshall on beckets and a couple of the team members came down to the point to see when they may have access to the car. I really felt sorry for the guys sat there waiting..
Poor poor loss a nutter one minute and a death the next not what silverstone needed
Colin_King 22 Jul 2003, 21:14 A sad loss of a good racer he will be missed.
Jules Heynes 24 Jul 2003, 18:51 Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all those in the motor racing fraternity who have sent their condolences. They have all helped us at this extremely difficult time. It has been some comfort that at least Dad was doing the thing he loved among friends.
We would like to be able to contact personally the marshals who tried to help him trackside, so if anyone knows how we can do this please let us know.
bacon sandwich 26 Jul 2003, 04:29 Jules - to let you know that we are all thinking of you at this time.
I would suggest one way to do it for your last request would be to contact Silverstone and ask to speak to the Marshals Administrator Pam Dearn who works there full time. She oversees all the marshals and even for the GP I believe she does the postings and will probably be able to help you with who attended to your dad - or at least put you in contact with the right person.
Take Care.
