With the exception of 8W.Forix, all these sites miss the first 50 years of motor racing as they assume that Grand Prix racing is synonymous with the Formula 1 World Championship.

Don't forget
The first Grand Prix was in 1908 (France, USA)
There was a world (or European) championship in the 1920's
There was a European drivers' championship in the 30's
There was an internationally agreed formula for Grand Prix racing in the 1920's. (I am not sure about pre-WW1 and suspect that the individual races made their own rules which were broadly similar)
Even Formula 1 started in 1947 although the championship didn't start until 1950.
There were several non-championship Formula 1 races up until about 1980. In some cases they paid higher prize money and attracted better fields than a championship grand prix.

Absolutely right, except I believe the first GP was the 1906 French GP!
