As so many remember other events I hope some will remember Gonzalo Rodriguez. This great talent was lost on the twists and turns of the Leguna Sega corkscrew. A star who never got to shine at top level. A great loss of a young talent as those who saw him in other formulas will testify.

Always in my memory.
That was a sad year indeed, especially for CART.
Here's a pic I took at the Detroit GP, just weeks before that fateful day...

Gonzo was a superb talent, and what an innocuous looking crash that was. It was so sad to lose him so soon, I'll always remember Barrichello's dedication of his Italian Grand Prix result 2 days later.
Nice pics daddymac. I was at most of them races...and the Danica Patrick pics aren't bad either!
was a very sad day indeed , I really liked Gonzalo and thought he had the talent to go far.
I actually wrote a poem after this tradgic event which I might find and post here again.
RIP Gonzalo , you are being missed.
Accidents happen thats what they say,
It will never happen to me we all pray,
But when it does it effects us all,
Just think of the family who get that call,
Today is a sad day for this sport,
But i know he is in everyone's thoughts,
God has taken one of our own,
It left me shaking here in my home,
I never knew Gonzalo, only his face,
But now he goes to that eternal race,
Racing the greats like he always dreamed,
He had such a big future or so it seemed,
He lived a life so full and strong,
It only took a second for it all to go wrong,
But we all know that this one thing is true,
Racing is all he wanted to do,
I take my time to look at the sky,
Not really wanting to say goodbye,
I know in time we all must die,
I slowly bow my head and start to cry.

I remember Gonzalo being outside my local newsagents reading Motoring News, i hadn't realised that his team at the time (Redman and Bright) were based in my village!
He was a very charming fellow, and great to watch on a circuit! Still very much a great loss to motor racing.
Long may his memory live on....
