Mika Salo owes the Sauber team money following a dispute over his 1999 contract, according to reports appearing on Sports.com.

The Finn, who drove for the Brackley outfit to fill in for injured Ricardo Zonta, is said to have signed an exclusive contract, which stipulated that he would not drive for another F1 team in 1999.

But when the opportunity came up to drive for Ferrari when Michael Schumacher broke his leg at the British Grand Prix in July, Salo immediately took it, apparently breaching the terms of his prior agreement with BAR.

BAR claims that it is owed $400,000 in compensation, and $100,000 for each extra race he drove for Ferrari. Salo drove six races for the Maranello squad last year.

The matter is likely to go to the courts provided it is not settled with a cash exchange. BAR is demanding $700,000 in total.

Perhaps they should have put Badoer in the second Ferrari after all...

Seriously though, BAR know where they can stuff this. Salo got them their highest finish of the season in his FIRST RACE for them!

Apparently this is something to do with ££££ running short at Brackley...
