This the a kind of, 'Welcome' thread to the Trackdays section.
If you are new, then please post here and tell us a bit about yourself, what car(s) you have, and your experience etc. This is for existing trackday'ers too!
Oh yes, and a definitive 'Welcome to the forum!'
:D
fast95pony 23 Nov 2003, 19:41 I guess I'm new , sorta...
I have a 1995 5.0 Mustang that I've highly modded. It started out at 215 hp and is now running about 410 hp. It was my daily driver , and I used to drag race it ,but now it's a summer cruiser. My daily driver is an 2002 SVT Focus. Last year I competed in Solo 2 for the first time with the Focus. I finnished third in G/Stock. I also
went to some track lapping events.Next year I'm going to compete in Solo 2 again , in the same class, to get some more experience.

spanner 26 Nov 2003, 20:13 Well proving you dont need a quick car i have a 1998 citroen saxo vtr and all ive done to it is add a K&n filter (helps on the daily long motorway runs) and replaced the front pads with Tar.ox ones.
My vast experience consists of only having done Knockhill twice as every other circuit seems to charge £150-200+ even though its the furthest track to where i live!
Anyway, hello everyone:rotate:
Hello,
I'm Alex from Berkshire in the UK and I'm a automotive engineer working for Ford at the moment.

Williamp 29 Dec 2003, 19:36 I'm Will from Kent. I have a 1989 944 Turbo (everyday car) which I plan to do a few track days with it in 2004.
Not sure where or when, but I am keen to try...
PoloG4tracer 5 Jan 2004, 21:38 Im Paul from Derbyshire and also Norfolk. im an Avionic Technician in th RAF, I work on an aircraft front line Tornado GR4 Squadron. Im going to get my competition licence this year.
Ive a 1992 VW Corrado G60 as my daily driver but it is currently running without the G60 supercharger due to it blowing up soon after I bought the car - I wasn't too happy since the charger didn't show any signs of pending doom.:o(
Im currently building and is now very nearly completed a 1991 VW Polo G40 for use on track days and possible racing in 2005 depending on what engine is allowed. Its based on a VW Polo G40 Super Coupe Cup race car, and has all the race car's chassis and handling mods but with a slightly modified engine.
Spec: 1272cc rebored to 1308cc, lightened, balanced, forged pistons, flywheel etc. Race ported head with solid lifters revving to 8000rpm. Fully ported, flowed and polished G40 supercharger, aquamist 1s. Good for over 200bhp :o)
Full rollcage, sparco seat, 6point harness, fully stripped out interior with usual race car safety features. Weighs 730kg dry.
G40 Race Cup Car suspension.
Audi 256mm front brakes, standard golf 16v discs with ferodo DS3000 Pads, tilton Lever Type Adjustable Brake Bias Regulator.
Thinking about sticking 229mm rear discs on it.
14" compomotive MO's
And I need a Ricardo LSD for my gearbox!
Ive done a few track days in my old Polo G40 but that was in 1999-2000 and at Castle Combe only. So I havent been doing it in a few years, Im very keen to get out this year as much as possible on the track although I consider my myself a total track novice.
Welcome to 10Tenths Paul. I love the G40 Polo, I used to go to Cadwell Park and watch them in the Super Coupe Cup - nice.
Looks like you have a good setup there. It should fly on track. :)
topwelshman 11 Jan 2004, 19:15 Ok. My name is Dom and I'm a newbie to all things racing.
I've harboured a desire to race since I was very young and as usual got carried away doing lots of other things until the Mrs. got me an Audi Trackday at Brands for xmas in 2002 - that brought all those desires back and in Nov I decided to take the plunge.
I bought a BMW 325 that has been racing in the Kumho series and I have set about getting instruction and as many outings as possible to date. Got my ARDS in early Feb and the car is being delivered to a reputable car prep co next week for an overhaul in prep for more trackdays and the upcoming Kumho BMW series - Can't bloody wait.
I've done quite a few things in my life but nothing that excites me like the prospect of a seasons racing.
The website - www.bigdracing.com should be up and running soon so check it out
From West Midlands
cars at present - new Avensis D-4D (company car), BMW E36 325i (she drives that)
past cars - tracked a 205 1.9Gti and 106 Rallye, various trackdays and a couple of hill climbs and sprints (nothing serious)
looking to get another 205 for trackdays and road rallies.
Will be very low budget due to expanding family.
Steve
topwelshman 8 May 2004, 12:35 From Cardiff. Drive an Audi A4 1.8TQS as my daily driver and BMW E30 325 that I'm racing in the Kumho BMW Championsip. I also arrange trackdays / corporate hospitality motorsport days and professional instruction.

porschegeoff 30 May 2004, 19:43 Hi I'm from Surrey, currently own 2 cars: a very boring Peugot 206 that I use for daily transport a 911 GT3 Mk1 (in Speed Yellow) that I use at weekends.
I have owned the GT3 since February and intend to do a few trackdays at some point. Fantastic car and it's a Clubsport model with a full rollcage, recaro bucket seats and a sports exhaust.
This is my third Porsche, having previously owned a 944 turbo and a 3.2 Carrera Sport Coupe. Prior to that I owned a variety of hot hatches, the best of which was a 205 GT1 1.9.
Never done a track day in my own car though a couple of years back I attended a couple of trackdays arranged by a Porsche Dealer (one at Brands & the other at Thruxton)where I got to drive a varirty of Boxter's & 911's accompanied by an instructor. In addition I have had numerous passenger rides at circuits including Brands, Mallory Park and Snetterton in my mates TVR and recently had a ride in another GT3 at Goodwood.

Webber45 15 Jul 2004, 13:10 Hello
I have 4 cars - one boring, one slow, one to nice and too big an engine (on my licence) to compete and my sprint car.
I sprint and hilclimb - slowly! I sued to do National B Rallys but gave up
I don't hthink I've done a proper track day but I've done test days instead.
I am Mark.
Live in the Midwest USA.
Track days for the last 11 years with the VW,BMW,Porsche, Lotus and highspeed roadcourse sprints.
Autox(US style) since I bought a '77 Rabbit(Golf) in 1983.
Current garage vermin:

2, '91 BMW M3.
3, '83 GTI (GOLF) with 2.0l conversion.
As soon as the Greed, speculation, and the lack of US Lotus dealer ethics wanes away, I hope to own a Federal Lotus Elise and cut the stable down to 2 cars.

stuartcmorrison 29 Oct 2004, 02:20 Hi I'm Stuart, a 12 year old kid in a 38 year old body & feeling evryone of those 38 years after tonights game of footy. I live in Redditch, Worcestershire & until recently had spent my entire working life in aerospace engineering mostly as a development technician, I have now escaped & spend my days developing properties.
After my teens I was never particularly interested in cars (had a spell with bikes including some track days) but rather strangly I've recently found myself watching & recording loads of motor racing off sky tv, then started talking to some friends who do autograss, browsing the internet, looked into Caterham Academy for 2006 (2005 already full), bought Autosport & subscribed to Circuit Driver all in the space of about 3 weeks.
Anyway I decided 2006 was to long to wait to get on track & after looking at the attendee lists on easytrack & seeing the diversity in machinary I was satisfied that my standard Mini Cooper was good enough for trackdays & fully intended to enrol on the Mallory Park event on 6th November.
Then last Saturday I read about this Honda Civic called the Type R, I had a test drive on Monday & tomorrow (....is that the time, actually later today) the Cooper is being chopped in, unfortunatly I've got to to run around in a Civic S demonstrator for a couple of weeks while they sort out my leather interior.
The plan now is to take delivery of my new Type R, run it in & get my first (car) track day in before the end of november, in the meantime I'll keep browsing looking at Nobles, Ultimas, Radicals, XTR's, Caterhams etc & of course getting on the forum.
Cheers, Stuart.
Just joined this forum. I have been racing the last 32 years, both Rally and on track. Now I run a driving technique and track day company in my spare time www.activedriving.dk I'm located in Denmark close to Copenhagen. Cars Subaru Impreza turbo and a Alfasud TI from 1980. The Alfa is a full equiped racecar, but engine is under rebuild. This has now taken me several years and in the meantime the Impreza is used as trackday car.

manzinilox 7 Feb 2005, 03:28 hi all, i'm a definite rookie in this scene.
my dads friends have rallied, tracked, etc. and now i've got together with a couple of mates adn are planning to buy a couple of fiat x1/9's. one's a pranged parts car with the running gear, the others a body with an Arbath fibeglass kit... i hope it all works out ok!
its gonna be a lot of work, but after seeing such a dedicated track forum like this on the net, its boosted my confidence a bit.

Mayhem in a Mk3 7 Feb 2005, 21:22 Hi, I'm Mark, I've never done a trackday yet, but I've been interested in them for a few years. I'm mainly interested in older cars, I've got an '85 Escort Cabriolet on the drive at the moment, but I don't know wether to get an XR4x4 to use on the track. I'm just getting all the generic things I'll need (seats, harnesses etc) and then I'll get the car sorted in March. To be honest I don't know how good I'll be at this game coz the missus says that I drive like Miss Daisy usually!!
Jim Lamb 7 Feb 2005, 23:48 Hi, I'm Jim. Lapsed Marshal, Rescue Crew & MSA Instructor.
Due to work and family committments I've done very little in the last two Years. Having previously driven the majority of the UK Circuits in a VAN! (Rescue Vehicle)and attended a fair few track Days as part of the Safety Crew with 'Wheeltorque'.
I have wonderful memories of visiting some fantastic Tracks across Europe. Spa, the 'Ring'(Nordschliefe), Dijon, Mas Du Clos, Issoire, Clermont Ferrand to name a selection. The experience of driving round these tracks, even in Course/Safety cars is totally unforgettable.
Have been pondering the Idea of a Track Day car for some time now and thougts about taking the plunge this Year, with a 205 Pug or Astra GTE.
Have previously done stupid things on Rallies with various Escort and Fiesta setups so I think I know where I'm going and Initial setup will be Safety kit then Suspension and brakes to get the handling sorted, before any power mods.
Also visiting the States this year and the Richard Petty experience is already booked! Can't wait! :D
Regards, to you all, stay safe out there.....
Jim
pootles 10 Feb 2005, 00:34 Hello you lot. I've not long been in here and quite frankly I like it a lot!! Cheers everything is very interesting. I've bought a MkII Golf GTI with a mate. pootles 10 Feb 2005, 00:43 Hello sjw25 I'm in Berks too. might have some bits left from our golf strip out that you possibly need. Definitely have a twin carb upgrade that I'm not using
Hello All,
I'm Mark from Nottingham. I have a 1988 205 Gti 'work in progress' car. Currently running an Mi16 engine and steering & suspension from a 309 Gti. It's my commute to work (not ideal after the Group A rear suspension mounts, polyrace wishbone bushes & SBC springs!), fun & occasional track day car. It goes fairly well for an old French hatchback I guess.
I'm hopefully off to Donington on the 27th February for it's first outing this year. I'm looking forward to trying out the new suspension set up after having a torrid year in 2004 changing rear beams!
Cheers.
Mark, i'll be at Donington Feb 27th black mk2 Golf J*** GVK

I'm Dickie from Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire. New to the whole thing of circuit driving although have always been a bit of a petrolhead. Have an Ariel Atom 2 and a Triumph Daytona 600. I'm looking at getting involved in trackdays, initially on 'safe' circuits until I've developed the skills. Look forward to learning from the experienced folk among you.

I also do a fair amount of trackday tuition. :)
As for Cars. I have a MK2 Golf 8v digi which I use for the road. I have also got a MK2 8v KJet which I use for Track Days. Its not had that much engine work done but its just for fun really and it gives my housemates and I something to do instead of going to lectures!

Neil Adams 27 Jun 2006, 22:14 Hi
i've gotten the bug for track days via spectating then actually wanting to do it myself, i've done the brands hatch trackmaster and a novice track day at brands this march, which was fantastic, loads of laps!
my car is just my normal road car,
peugeot 306 1.8, 100bhp
no modifications except a sport exhaust (previous owner) i think it handles well, very flat, i could manage surtees flat at 70mph
im doing another one at brands on the 12th july, planning to get a camera mounted in the car so will share the vids here
i want to do as many tracks as possible in the future, brands gp and donington for sure

Been doing trackdays for 10 years now about 8 a year. Started with a Lancer Turbo, moved on to Starions and got my sister involved with an E30 325i.
Been to Cadwell, Donington, Croft, Combe, Oulton, Rockingham, Snetterton, Silverstone GP and Le Mans.
Sean Edwards 22 Aug 2007, 17:14 Hi guys,
Some nice cars above! I didn’t see there was a track day forum on here, seems quite a few of you attend them.
I am a professional racing driver and instructor and can offer any of you or your friends one to one tuition at most UK and European circuits. I do the instruction in between my main focus this year, which is the FIA GT championship, in GT2.
More can be found on my website http://www.seanedwards.eu/index.php?p=Getcontent&catid=10 and there is also a long list of testimonials from previous clients on there.
hi guy's/gals,i'm new to this forum.been doing track days for 10yrs now.driven cars on circuit such as cav sri 16v,cav gsi, volvo s40t4,vectra gsi, astra gsi and now a corsa vxr.vxr is standard at the moment, just need to find out how good/bad it is before upgrading anything.have driven at brands, snet, donny and silverstone.donny was interesting as it was in an M5,one of the safety cars for FIA GT meeting.
AdamAshmore 15 Jan 2008, 09:45 Welcome to the forum, vxr. I bet the beemer was fun  Sounds like you go to some decent places too, do you prefer the 'proper' tracks?
I can't help you on your car (I've tracked quite different cars: E-Type, XJS, MGB, SLK200, CL600, that one not that seriously unfortunately, and a Golf GTi (for ARDS)).
Has the Corsa been on track yet? Did the brakes hold up?
Well I will be making my first trip to the track in a month or two. Still haven't picked the final date yet, as a group of us are going. I'm really looking forward to it and hope it will be something that I can make a regular occurance. Oh, and this will be of the two-wheeled variety. :)
I will be riding my '05 Suzuki GSX-R1000.
I've made a few posts now so I suppose I'd best introduce myself :)
I'm a newbie to track related driving- I've made many a passenger ride many a time in the past though, with a friend who used to track his various hondas.
I won't be doing track days as such, but sprinting through a track day company in a small 5 event championship this year.
My weapon of choice is my old celica, by no means a racer but I aim to have a much fun as possible :)
